Anybody watch the show? I thought the Viper did great and having both of these cars, I was really surprised how the Viper pulled the Z up til 5th gear.......Wouldn't the gear change in the 2010 be the answer to overcome the Z in that respect? Does anybody besides me think Paul Tracey is a dork?

I'd like to have either one of their jobs! I've watched 4 episodes now and Tanner wins everytime! What's up with that?

Wow so the Viper gets to half a mile at 145mph and with a half mile to go it can only muster around 20-25mph more? Am I the only one that cant fathom that? He said downforce was one of the factors against it but this isnt an ACR Viper. And whats the deal with Faust saying the Vette is 3800lbs? This aint a real test imho. Id like them to retry with a 2010 Viper coupe. ZR1 is stink fast though.

Tanner's the dork.

Paul said on another show that he hates losing to a guy in a medium shirt or something like that but they both have a great job and Tanner's alright. I'm wondering if this show is replacing Supercars Exposed or they will continue make new episodes of that as well...

When I heard about this I told my friend that they would pit a ZR1 against a non-ACR. While the ACR package would help in most of the events (and probably give Paul the downforce he was talking about), Tanner would have still won the standing mile (downforce = drag). However, Paul would have walked him in both road events hands down. ACR v. ZR1 = ACR FTW!!!

What a great show, don't hate on the Vette b/c it is an awesome car! Being an ACR owner it is my belief that Paul would have won the mile event simply b/c he would have probably launched the car better with the sport cups which would possibly have given him that little edge he needed at the line. Any thoughts on this?

Loved the episode although I couldn't believe the guy driving the Vette kept refering the Viper as the Gold chain wearing middle age crisis car LMAO.

I do totally agree though that if they are going to use the Halo Vette why not use the car it specifically targeted against the ACR. I hate it when mags or tv shows do this.

I feel like if they want to run a Viper coupe , than they should have run it against the Z06 not the ZR1.

ACR V. ZR1
Coupe V. Z06

Anyways it was a blast to watch and yes it would have been great to see the new revised gear box ratios in the mile run.

$$$$

2 Viper coupes or 1 zri which looks exactly like their $40k coupe...???

easy answer... Viper wins!!! The Viper also won in the the ranges that are important to drivers 0-60 and up to 150... anyone here drive faster than 150 on the street anyways?

After each event, they should swap cars and see of the results are different or not. Kind of equalizing the difference in drivers. Was fun to watch.

I am suprised that the Viper won the 0-60 contest...I thought the ZR1 might have it there (better gearing, lighter weight).

I wasn't expecting the Viper to pull the ZR1 in the standing mile to the end of 4th gear. If I was a ZR1 owner I'd be pissed. They have better gearing, are lighter and have more horsepower...not understanding why the ZR1 got spanked that bad (looked like at least 2 to 3 car lengths). To bad it wasn't a 2010 Viper with the lower 5th gear...I think it would have won the standing mile whether it was a standard Viper or ACR. The ACR would have gotten an even better start with its sticky tires and with it's lower 5th gear I think it would have eeked out a win.

It sounds like if racing a ZR1 side by side, the Viper might have them to about 160 mph....most would give up at that speed if 3 or 4 cars behind.

The show is fun to watch, but it's not exactly the most accurate results due to using public highways, etc...to many changing variables compared to using the same racetrack and dragstip for every car and every test.

Cheers,
George

This may be a lame question but when the Viper in 5th gear he said it stopped pulling and he showed on his speedo over 200, when if ever is 6th gear of any value if not in over a mile to get to top end? Sorry, but wouln't 6th give you a higher top speed?

Let's say you're having touble deciding between a new Viper and a new ZR1 and you've been waiting for this show to air to decide. You just finished watching the show...

You can probably still get a brand new 2009 SRT10 for a lot less money than a new ZR1 or you can even get a 2010 Viper with the better gearing or an ACR and still save some money over a ZR1.

Now you're thinking that even a 2009 Viper will run right with or even edge out the ZR1 in any situation on the street and the same would be true on the drag strip or a race course.

The Viper just plain looks better than the Vette and the Vette just really looks just like a whole load of other cars that cost as little as the low $40s... They aren't making any more Gen4 Vipers and they really haven't made a lot Gen4 or even Gen3 coupes at all. If I go to a Cruise-in with the Viper or even just driving down the road it would be pretty unlikely that I would see more than 1 or two other Vipers if any at all. If I have the Vette I will be in a virtual sea of other like looking Vettes. The Viper has an 8.4 liter V10 and that's pretty Bad Ass and unique compared to a v8 or anyrhing else on the road for tha matteer plus it's a lot more fun to drive.

On the other hand if I buy the ZR1 it's a lot more comfortable and even though in the standing mile the Viper jumped way out in front of the ZR1 on the Supercar comparo the ZR1 caught and passed the Viper just in the nick of time or that the Vette brakes better but even so it really didn't translate on the road course.
I know this is a Viper forum but what is the rest of the argument to buy the Vette ?

The 2010's revised 5th gear (which Viper should have come with since inception) would make a big difference in the mile and no doubt, the Viper would have won that contest. I made the swap in my 09 ACR and the way the car pulls now, even with the big wing and splitter, is much stronger compared to the OE 5th gear.

If I'd plunked down the dough for a ZR1, which is lighter, is supposed to have more hp and tq and does have much lower gearing - then lost all of the acceleration contests, or been very close, I'd be upset.

And for Tanner, the little wise ***, what's with the comments on Viper owners - gold chains, mid life crisis stuff? He should stick to the cars and the competition IMHO.

No. The car cannot push the ridculously tall 0.50:1 6th gear. With stock gearing 5th gets you v-max. However, the best part of that show was how bad the Viper fell on its face when Paul had to go into 5th and how long it would ahve teken to get to V-max. I have said for the 6 years I have owned my Viper that SRT should be ashamed of itself for the 5th and 6th ratios. Vettes don't have it. Stick shift CTS-V doesn't have it. Why can GM gear their cars properly but Mopar gives you a 4-speed with two overdrives? At least for the last hurrah of 2010 they put in a real 5th gear which probably would have won Paul the standing mile.

guys their is nothing new here my friends..think back to a year and a half ago when that mag ran the 2008 viper and zr1 from 0-150 mph....The viper did it in 16.4 verses the Zr1's 17.1 and Z06's 17.9...Again this is nothing new...

ZR1 guys roll 5 deep and rent out a track in pre determined mind shaft air at the faster tracks in the country and then for good measure line the area up with good prep to get those tires to stick and then run a high 10 at 130-133 mph

But again the testing shows that with everything equal the Viper is actually faster

Both are excellent. If one can not decide, just get one of each like many Viper owners have done.

Just a thought here:: So the viper won the 0-60 contest, and the viper smashed the Zr-1 through the 1st 1/4 & 1/2 mile of the standing mile run, but yet the viper looses the 0-100-0 contest, hmm.

I you watched the show, im fairly certain, the viper driver spun his tires leaving on the 0-100-0 run, and was about 1 car length behind the zr-1 throughout this test. Why keep this (1) set of results and call them final, why not run that test, or any others, 2-4 times and take the best results, I would say the same thing if the vette spuns his tires.??

Let see, hmm, its Tanners show, and he's a factory sponsor'd driver for GM, we wouldnt want any GM product to look bad against a lowly "dodge" product would we !!!!!:bsm:

I have both. Neither car has anything on the other. My loyalty goes with the Viper because it has more of what I want in a performance car. If you are a Chevy diehard the ZR1 represents just as well. Not better, only the same, IMHO.

I think Paul Tracey should be the draw for this show as Tanners Supercars Exposed was a bore. I saw that show a couple times, and it just seemed like a lot of talk from a guy who couldn't keep your attention. Where as Paul Tracey has always been the bad boy of racing.

As for running the tests again, I honestly think this show is more a play on Tanner and Tracey's supposed feud every episode. Therefore which car won is less relevant. It's just for entertainment guys, there's no money or title on the line. Which car won is only important to armchair quarterbacks.

By the way, Paul Tracey will always be a better driver than Tanner. Look at the accomplishments of both, Tracey competed in the top racing series in North America. Tanner plays around in a lower level of competition, not widely recognized by anyone other than the Youtube generation.

Remember, if a car got spanked on Youtube, it's definitive and has to be true.:lmao:

True, does seem to be centered around a mild "feud" between them, and why on earth did they run part of the show on what appears to be a public road, with the remained on a runway?

I agree with you. I love my Viper & have had many chevy's, but Dodge screwed up with the gearing. For a v8 engine to pass the Viper V10 like it was standing still was pittiful. And yes I know it is supercharged against a n/a engine. And I do love the ZR1, it's a fantastic car, but I betcha it wouldn't pass my Twin Turbo car. I understand it was kinda predictable. Next time bring on the ACR.:burnout:

I dont know how this happened. I own both cars (srt-10 and zr1) and honestly these arent the cars to compare. Im not sure what Viper you can compare. ACR not fair cause its not a street car but performance wise a better test fot the ZR1. Straight line, around corners the Z is way faster. this test is an anomoly compared to every other piece of data out there. dont trust the outliers. Both great cars but the compare isnt really a good one, IMO.
