How much of attention getter are Vipers?

Ever since the Viper has been introduced to the mortals, I have desired it, plain and simple. Being a creature of flesh and irrational desires, I promissed to purchase one, once my finances and or other obligations allowed for such a splurge. Well, the time has come (well, almost LOL). As a person of earthly desires and faults, I want to ask those who have been owners of the beast to answer the following questions:

1. How much of an attention getter is the Viper?

2. How driving it on the streets of NYC Am I likely to get into racing contest with less fortunate folk?

3. How will my driving habits change as a result of driving a Viper?

Sorry for the weird English, I just finished watching Robin Hood and felt like spicing my writing. No worries, it should be gone by the morning.

P.S. Call me vain, but it is the attention that I am after. Also, as a male with healthy testosterone count, I do enjoy the extra rumble and a bit more hp Vipers offer.

Driving a Viper in NYC streets? You're kidding right?

My ACR is probably the most photographed car in the Las Vegas strip.

It got so bad driving it my better half does NOT allow me to take it out much unless I'm driving out in the back mountains.

I've already caused several accidents from people not paying attention looking at my car.

Thankfully none have hit me yet. They've come close a couple of times, but I've managed to get out of the way.

If I was in NYC I'd probably blend in with the taxi cabs. lol

I think I could afford a GenI 94-95. I would prefer GTS for the privacy it offers and would love to get GenIII which would also result in a divorce or living in a garage for a good while. Since I love my wife more than I could a Viper (side pipes would surely make for interesting positions LOL), I need to stick to my original plan: 94-95 RT/10 or '96 GTS.

Living in New York does not make a Viper all that exotic since there are plenty of folks with real $ in their pockets, but rare enough to be noticed. Plus I just adore the car and it suits my personality (so I think). Also having a reputable mechanic close by helps as well.

I want a car that will make me enjoy my weekends and get noticed a bit more (is it rude or un pc to be this shallow? LOL). I cannot afford a Ferrari, I am not a Porshe person and I have had a Vette. Viper seems to be the one that fits the bill. It looks loud, in your face and is ready to bite (imho), just what the doctor ordered. LOL

No I am dead serious! I am getting ready to drive that snake on those roads as soon as one is mine. I am more afraid of the roads per se and their deplorable condition than other drivers (including taxis - I hope I will not have to bite my tounge for that remark LOL).
One of the reasons I am not fond of yellow is because the taxis dress in the same way up in my neck of the woods. Then again, if the price was right.... LOL

so much atrtention it's annoying..
i went to the gas station tonight and was showing my 2003 srt10 to a potential viper...

So Im showing him the car and these two 30 year old guys in some kinda nice looking import roll up beside me and start revving and saying nice car ect..So im right in the middle of telling this potential buyer about this and that and these guys keep bothering me..I just ignored them and they got the picture and left...

Time and a place for eveything..im rolling through the club or bar after it just closed and everyones checking out the car then kool...mwe and my wife are driveing around talking about somthing we need to discuss and someone wants to ask questions or rev ect. then its not so kool

You are right about the fun factor when one wants to push the pedal to the metal. While I am not in a habit of racing taxi cabs all over Manhattan I would want from time to time to go to see a movie in the city or have that 1 on 1 dinner in a nice place. Granted Manhattan is perhaps the least suitable place to go fast, but I do enjoy the traffic Saturday night when the city is really alive. Call me attention ***** or a middle aged guy with that oh so famous midlife crisis, but I think my future Viper will see more of the city than any track. Just the nature of the beast I suppose.

Perhaps if I were to reside in good old Germany, I would push it harder and more often.

Stories like this are both scary and lovely at the same time. I haqve had my 5 minutes of fame when I owned a Vette but Viper is so much more exotic I can only imagine the extra attention one would get. Time will tell..... Thanx for sharing.

i absolutely love the attention the viper brings, its why i bought the car. without the attention id be nothing....its like being a rockstar.

that said, driving in NYC is not such a big deal. you need to know the roads to avoid. CITYSNAKE on this site lives there and drives his car more than most. talk to him about it. the NY/CT club has a few other guys who live or work in the city and drive their cars there.

I still maintain that at least one photo or video of a Viper is taken for every mile you drive and I live in a Rural Suburban area. In Manhattan it would probably be 4 or 5 times that. It can be annoying because you really can't leave the car unattended for long periods of time in crowded areas and you'll have to leave extra time in your schedule to talk to everone. It can be a little risky too... because people stop paying attention to their driving while they're admiring your car. There are very few cars that can show up a striped GTS or any Viper for that matter. They are among the rarest cars on the road and right at the top with some others in visual excitement even the ultra-exotics.

I had a nice looking young lady working my hood and roof over like a lap dancer on one occasion. I was stuck in traffic saturday and some hot mom in a mini-van pulls up next to me and hangs half way out of the windowe and starts telling me how gorgeous the car is and how she likes my license plate too. Thumbs up...horn beeping...revving... I haven't even had the car a year yet and every time out it's something new.

All that aside... the damn thing is just a blast to drive and the sound... Amazing

It will change your world! Just be aware of the power and torque as i have since learned...My wife says it felt like taking off in a jet plane,but hell i haven't even opened it up with her in it...the one time i gave it a little juice ,i looked over and she had her hands over her ears and her eyes shut! Now i drive easy with her on board..seriously,if you buy a snake,keep anti-toxin handy as they will bite.I am glad i listened to some of the advice from members here when i first got mine .I am in my fifties and driven muscle cars all my life and was still surprised...I say go for it,but be very careful at least til you get to know the beast! Good luck!

There are some members in the NY/CT Region that drive their Vipers to NYC. The most important thing for them is to know which streets to drive on.

Being born and raised in NYC, now living in CT, I choose not to take it to NY because I don't know where to leave it and wouldn't leave it in the street. Parked, I find people want to lean on the car to look inside and that only leads to unwanted scratches.

But, that's just me!

Keep in mind with the 94/95s that there is basically NO WAY to lock your car when you go into a restaurant. Your only storage will be the trunk, which is a pain for EZ-Pass, registration, etc.

Other than that, we love our '94 and wouldn't get rid of it.... unless one with more horsepower came along that wouldn't mind sharing garage space!

All the time I have friends ride along they always freak out on the attention the car gets. Personally, I never bother to notice if people are checking out the car but occasionally when pumping gas you do get the usual question of what year is that vette. I will say the car certainly gets my own attention when I see it and I whenever I see one on the road I check those out to. I never get bored or tired of looking at Vipers.

#1. This is almost a joke question. My daughter calls it "the most embarassing car ever" because people will actually pull over to watch it drive by.

#2. Pretty likely to get challenged at least. Be smart enough to give them a smile and a wave then drive off normally. Their the ones with something to prove, not Vipers

#3. You start noticing road imperfections and looking for such things as steep grades, speed bumps, etc. You start watching the weather channel to see if its going to rain that day. You start to be aware of the people that hang around parking lots and how the cars are parked and where you can park so no one will be too close to you. I took my wife to dinner once and saw some kids skateboarding on the other side of the parking lot. It was "Sorry honey, we can't eat here. Let's go somewhere else."

I really depends on the crowd. I'm often just as amazed by the people who don't recognize a viper as those who do. While my 14 year old daughter will spot someone wearing coach shoes, it goes right over my head, and the same is true of the viper. If it's a car person, you're going to get noticed, if not, they'll never even look.

I agree with this! And it's the same in a small town in Oklahoma. Some people won't give you a second look and others will break their neck. Just be careful not to watch other people watching you, just enjoy the ride :2tu:

Boought my viper in St Louis and drove it back to Dallas area, non stop thumb ups all the way home !! also got videoed a couple of times, love the car, wife not digging all the attention car brings :drive:

Houston must be different from where you guys live because I rarely get attention in mine. Or maybe I am just ugly and scare people off. :dunno:

So far I have never had anyone talk to me or take a picture of it while at the gas station. Don't get me wrong, I do get some attention but very little. Like today I drove around for 2 hrs and all I saw was nod from a corvette owner, but then again I don't care if people look. I am having too much fun driving. :drive:

Before I bought mine I always have had classic musclecars: Cuda's, Roadrunners... and they get attention but definitely not what the Viper gets.

My personal favorite is when you can read the lips of the people driving by and can tell they are swearing, such as Holy S@#t... It always cracks me up :lmao:

I am planning on using THE BEAST mostly on the weekends. Dinner and a movie type of adventure. Even if I would want to, wife would not let me go into biting territory LOL.
There used to be a Viper parked in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn which at the time was my neck of the woods (+/- 10 years ago), and the owner of a car wash would keep his red Viper parked in front of the place. Many a time I would find myself in the area at around closing time just to see the beast in action and hear the rumble. Fortunately, there was a fruit store, a big supermarket, a gas station and well this car wash to not make my better half suspect that we are there for sole purpose of watching that Viper breath.
The Viper is no longer there on display, so I moved to another borough... LOL
