ACR Jim- That's closer than the M/T pic from 2 months ago, but that's still not the car we saw at VOI. You'll be much happier when the real car comes out.

It's really very, very simple, no car manufacturer in history has ever allowed a picture of a car that is two years away from production to be seen by the public.
THIS manufacturer allowed 800 people to view not only that car but 5 or 6 others, which also included cars that have not been seen by even the spy photo motoring press. On the way home I was reading the current issue of of one of the car mags and they had a spy photo of the new Charger with a cover pulled off the front of the car back to the windshield. They thought that view was a big deal.
We walked around and SAT in the same car 18 hours prior. Red car with a full on red leather interior that looked like a new Lexus....STUNNING.
THAT is what we mean when we say we have a special relationship with Dodge and that they are willing to share with us in a way no other manufacturer does.

I repeat, no manufacturer in history has shown a car 2 years away from production to their enthusiast group. We do have the best relationship in the industry with our manufacturer. There were many indications that this was going to happen, Ralph even mentioned it in his editorial in Viper magazine, those that chose to go got to see it. Showing up in person and going through strict security was the only way to prevent pictures. And pictures can't just be thrown up on the internet for the club, there is NO way to protect a picture like that and no one should expect Dodge NOT to want to protect the view of a project two years out.

Lee,

You are a nice guy, but your comments are factually untrue. Sorry, but you need to take off the rose colored glasses.

Check it out.

Lotus Cars - Future Cars

2013 seems like three (3) years out. This is not meant as a "gotcha" moment or "I know better than you." Dont take it like that. My point is that manufacturers produce cars out years in advance. They tell their buyers to create an interest. Once the intellectual property is protected, they build the brand or model.

Dodge has something very special. It has owners who are even more passionate than Lotus owners. Maybe we should be treated more special, or at least equal, to what the Lotus owners get. Just a thought.

Patent,

I also had the 2010 Camaro renderings about 4 years prior to it being released. GM was proud to display the concepts and updates along the way, and that resulted in viral marketing and record sales.

The front end pic in the Autoweek mag is NOT even close to what I saw plus like eeveryone has said the back end of the car we saw has a decidedly retro gen 2 look to it. It has side exhaust wih a roughly rectangular outlet, hood vents that mate up to the rear of the radiator, a side scoop directly behind the driver and passenger window to help with rear brake and diff cooling, a very modified version of the rifle sight grill.

In other words it doesnt look like anything in the auto week picture for sure

An insider over at AllPar submitted his best "guess" for the 2012. For those that saw, are either of these views even close?

He was very close on his predictive drawings for the Challenger, Charger, 200 and the new 300, so I'm wondering how far off he is on this.

Based on what has already been posted and my discussions with people who saw the car, the above is not even close. A number of people said that the car it most resembled was the Maserati coupe from the side with an Aston Martin rear appearance and a far more aggressive front unlike any other vehicle but clearly Viper like.

:nono:OMG thats just nasty to even consider the Viper badge on that. It would make a fine updated 2 door charger but not a Viper:nono:

Wow most of the time I'm pretty harsh about Jack's work but this is his best. Amazingly this is the only one so far that screams Viper in any way! I like about 90% of this one, change the headlights a bit me thinks. The MT and R/T versions have that boring Fiat look.

and I'm so glad to read that the new car didn't look anything like that hideous carbon photoshopped looking thing.:crazy2:

I am glad it didn't look like the Autoweek picture because I liked my current 2008 Viper ACR BETTER! I particularly didn't like the Rear Fenders Looking possibly like an Alfa.:)

This is quite close in broad terms:

- roofline was sweeping like this but with a very large rear deck window; helmet bubbles on rooftop were separated by a wide, square-edged "channel" running down center - no rounded edges like this or previous GENs. Rear vents (like 599 roofline but blocked)
- rear end is close
- side windows were small, like this, but more tear-drop shaped a la Alfa 8C, which is the closest marque to the overall side silhouette (3/4 shot) of the new car. Next would be the Aston Martin DB5 for roofline, rear end and rear quarter panels.
- side panels were not like these; more pronounced, smooth tear-drop shaped at lower front fender (in front of doors); unmistakeable homage to earlier GENs; exhaust vents were similar
- windshield to hood angle was very sharp: not all like this aero approach and very GEN II'ish
- smaller headlights and smoother hood treatment (like GEN II) than this with no visible vents beyond 2 egg-crate small nostrils on top, 1 near each headlight. Small center scoop; nothing aggressive or Viper-like about the hood at all. I can't see how it would vent the engine bay.
- smaller grill (height and width) but similarly quartered. Objective is to funnel air directly to rad without side disturbance; this will improve cooling but I hope the final version features some serious hood vents, as well.

Overall, to my eye, the silhouette was very European with obvious GEN II design cues...a more "refined" approach than we know today.

New snakehead logo is identical to this rendering (Disney cartoon with ***) and I hope it dies a natural death before the GEN IV is launched. My suggestion for a name that matches the prototype is GENNY.

Only other intel was that the new car will be a V10; Gilles didn't elaborate on whether it would be a pushrod design.

Point taken,,,, and a very valid one. It just occured to me that with enough "insiders" and talented people getting clues, someone will step up like on CSI and eventually create one close enough that will make Dodge nervous and possibly upset at our club. We need to leave the guess work to the other sites and let Dodge be pissed at them.

As long as it is not an actual photo, I do not think that Dodge cares. Continued talk and speculation is continued free publicity. When that dies down, we will start to see photos of parts of the design released like a strip tease to keep the public interested. It's really basic marketing and the crew at Dodge these days is very, very good at it. They are Sharp. Less you doubt that, look at the media madness they unleashed with some sculpted compressed foam with multiple coats of paint, a set of billet wheels, and some LED lights. Genius at work!!

There is no room for tolerance when it comes to the unauthorized release of actual photos of the Gen V. Talk, speculation and guessing is not prohibited. How could it be? It is allowed by the First Amendment and the equivalent provisions of each state constitution. One of the main purposes of having the mock up at VOI was to create a buzz about the car not to stifle it. Let the buzz continue. It is good for Chrysler, Dodge, the VCA and the perfomance car world in general. I do not think that any moderator here disagrees with the above.

Absolutely. Our "on-site" agreement was no photos or video. The more buzz verbally, written, etc the better though! It's good for everyone.
