Apparently the 2012 GT-R will debut at the LA Auto Show in November and be available for customers early next year...

what I meant by that is after all is said and done and people that will actually chip in, which I believe when it comes to actually write the check won't be many, it will thousands each...regardless, it's silly to argue about it because it won't happen....

Again, I'm pitching in the first $1,000, so let's not be pessimistic just yet. So long as someone's good with handling other people's money, and is a reputable poster here, I'm 100% fine with it. Let's see what we can do. I can blow my money on so many less worthy things, especially here in Europe.

And while I'm at it, if that team comes to Germany, I'm building a house near Stuttgart (I know, it's three hours away) that they'd always be welcome to stay at (about 4 spare bedrooms). And I'll even throw in some meals.

Now hopefully others will develop a decent plan and make this happen. I suppose it starts with finding a capable and willing owner and driver (possibly not the same person). Then picking the right time of the year (Fall here is a no-go).

It's not a production car until they produce it, so preliminary numbers by a test mule in an unknown configuration don't mean squat.

If that's what it takes. I've got a monster size grill that could keep the team fed well, and beer is pretty cheap, all things considered. I know there's several military folks out here who would be willing to host the team. Main cost is for transpo (people and the car) from the US to Germany. Unless there's already an ACR over here.

Count me in for a donation. I'd love to see it happen. If someone can seriously come up with a plan to make it happen. We just had VOI, someone should try and get in touch with Ralph Giles to see if he's willing to coordinate this. He seems like a die hard Viper guy, who knows, he may be willing to help.

This "record" is obviously bogus as it is not a production car, as has been pointed out. However, the record will undoubtedly fall sooner or later. So what. Is it worth getting worked up for? Sure, it's a nice "trophy" to be proud of, but it doesn't make the average viper any more or less of a great car.

We know the car can do it. And it would be fun to talk about how the membership came together and pitched in to make something special happen, regardless of the outcome.

The GTR has accomplished a lot but it still does nothing for me. It is not exotic looking. It has Ferrari like maintenance costs, and it is largely a computer driven car. While the times it pulled are impressive one must consider this car was designed around the ring and for the ring. The amount of lap time spent on the ring is ridiculous.

In reference to this specific example (Viper-GTR ring times), the viper is like a strong man competitor and all around athlete who decides to compete in a power lifting competition, and wins. Then a year later a dedicated a career powerlifter takes back the title. All the powerlifter trains for is one competition and move. The strong man on the other hands performs far better in a collection of events, rather than a few that are based more on techniqe than raw strength.

My opinion, the ACR needs to be a 2010. And it needs to be a full day of testing with a lot more than 5 runs.

Air Freight for a Viper is $12,500 going from L.A. to Frankfurt and $7,000 coming back, so shipping costs are only about half the $40K you figured. :headbang:

I predict the Ring Record will fall in the Spring of 2013 by the GEN V.

A pre-production car running the ring means nothing. Absolutely nothing! Ring this, Ring that! I am not hearing about any big challenges at Laguna Seca. A lot cheaper so why are the other manufacturers not hitting it?

The 7:22 Ring record was one of the factors that drove me to buy my Viper. Beating the rest of the world plus the ZR1 could not be ingored.

If we go back with a 2010 and set a new record, that will only help the value of our cars. Hopefully some of the tuners will make a good showing at the Texas Mile and put the Viper back in front of the pack for the mile runs too.

I'm in for $$$ towards this Ring attempt also :usa:

actual japanese translation is a 7:24 time NOT 7:20.....

close but no cigar....

AND...

no need to run the 2010 ACR at this point...Dodge didnt build enough of them to worry about pushing them to market. they will be long sold out before the GEN V comes to town so if anything happens it will be a privateer exercise...

the 2010 ACR just based on improvements and gearing i would guess would be in the 7:16-7:18 time CONSERVATIVELY!!
