A couple of people on another post said they would read my post as long as I am writing. Here is the story of how ViperLSS, me first came to work at CAAP.

In May of 1995 I was working at a robotics manufacturing company. I wanted a change. Something new. And better benefits for my wife and three kids. I went to the unemployment office to ask about applying for one of the big three. That's Ford, GM, and Chrysler in case you didn't know. Because I was an Army veteran I was allowed to take the aptitude test with out being placed on the waiting list.
I passed all their test. The last one was a physical or drug screening. When I went for that test there was another employee from the same shop that I was working in. We'll call him Bob. I for got his real name. We both knew that we couldn't tell anyone at our shop about us taking time off work to apply for another job. So we didn't.
Well Bob got hired two weeks later at Mound Road Engine. This was great news for me because that meant that one of the big three was hiring. So I waited for my letter to come in the mail. And I waited, and waited.
Fast forward a few months. At this time I had a post office box. Most of the time I check it once a week. But when I went this time I hadn't been there for over two weeks. I found a letter from Chrysler. I though "What do these guys want"? I opened the letter and read it. They wanted to consider me for employment at Conner Avenue Assembly. Where was this plant? It didn't matter I would find it. The letter also noted that I had to call their number by...check the date, today! I had picked up the letter the same day as the dead line for my required reply to this employment letter. Wait! There was also a time! It read kind of like this, "Please reply to this letter no later than December 31, 2010 at 1pm". Quick...check the time, OH NO! It was now two hours past the time on the letter. As fast as I could I got some change out of my pocket and got to the pay phone. Yes there were pay phones around at this time.
The lady that answered was very understanding. And stated that I wasn't to late at all. I was given a time, place, and date to take another drug screening. If everything was good there I would be given a time and date to report to Conner for my interview.
What makes this part of my story even more incredible is that I did not get hired to Conner until one year and nine months later. That is the reason I had to take another drug test. they're only good for one year.
In my next post I'll tell you how my interview went. And how I got there.
Enjoy.

So much had happen in my life during those months that I didn't think I would ever get hired. Hell I had even for gotten that I had even applied for the big three.
I got fired from the robotics plant. We were homeless for three months. That's me, my wife, and our three kids. You never know how strong you are until you have nothing.
But that is another story for another time.

From what I've been reading it's not a job. It's a passion, a love for the car ! With that kind of pride, it will continue to be one of the greatest cars ever !!

Yes, it does bring back memories. At 3:20 you will see Benito. He is no longer with us. Some memories aren't so great.

No, that is not my tattoo. I got mine a long time before that guy did. I got the Viper logo in 2000. I added the Viper font in 2008. I'm sorry the picture is so large. My cell phone has an 8 mega pixel camera on it.

Chapter II: The Conner Interview

Back in 1997 I didn't have GPS. Hell I didn't even have a cell phone. Luckily I was provided with some directions and the address to the plant.
I was really nervous. This was my chance at a job with Chrysler. A job that would allow me to take better care of my wife and three kids. God I didn't want to screw it up.
The interview was scheduled for 10am. I got up 7am. Eating a breakfast was out of the question. The last thing I wanted to do was puke during the interview.
I still had to find this place. So I left my apartment at 8:30am. Yea I know that's early but I didn't want to be late. Ok the plant was between 7 and 8 mile. Ok no problem there. I was also told it was east of VanDyke. So that would put it between VanDyke and Schoenherr Road. Ok I can figure that one out. I would just go south on Schoenherr to Conner Road and then make a right. The plant should be right there. Turns out it only sounded simple.
First, Schoenherr does not go south of 8 mile. And second, Conner does not connect to Schoenherr. Man am I glad I left early.
Don't hate on me guys. But I stopped and asked for directions. I got to the parking lot with 30 minutes to spare. As I took a look at the outside of the building I really didn't notice any signs or logos as to what was being built inside. Other than the Chrysler sign by the road. By the way, this part of Conner Ave. is just about a quarter mile long. So you can see how I missed it. As I sat in the front lounge I tried to calm my nerves. I had to be professional.
At this time I really do not remember the names of the people that conducted the interview. But there were three of them. Now I had been in the Army in front of some "PLDC" boards. This is where you have people from the Sargent Major of the post down to your platoon Sargent asking you questions about being a solider. Well this interview felt the same way. Worse. Because if I messed this up it wouldn't only be me that suffered.
The three of them took turns asking questions about quality and "What would you do" questions. The one that sticks out is one I was asked by the only woman interviewee. "If you had to would you prefer to work as a member of a team or by yourself on a project?" My answer was "In the militarily I was required to do both. I really do not have a preference. I am able to do both." I guess this wasn't the answer she was looking for because she asked me the same question at least three times. and I gave her the same answer all three times. Until I finally said, "I know what answer you're looking for. But for me to give you that answer I would have to lie to you. And I'm not going to do that. I am a team player that can get the job done solo if I had to."
After the interview I was asked if I would like a tour of the plant. Sure why not? Now I still at this point had no idea what car was being built at this place. When I saw these wonderful, beautiful, and amazing blue with white striped sports cars....I thought I had died and gone to heaven. Now for the let down. I asked if I was going to be building these cars. No, I was being hired to build the Plymouth Prowler. It was a new car for Chrysler.
When the tour was finished I shook hands with my interrogators. They wished me well and I said I hope to see you soon. It only took me ten minutes to get home. Of course my wife hit me up for every piece of information she could get. Man didn't I just leave this party? Of course now we wait again to see if I passed the interview.
When I did get word that I had the job I told my wife, "This is the next best thing to winning the lottery."

In Chapter III I will cover the first six months of employment.
