lol seems like any time I fill it up to get gas someone is asking what year Vette I have now. Had another guy ask what kind of car it was again and I used the tip from this post and just said "old restored honda"... the guy just said "Wow, nice job".

Every once in a while though a true car person seems to catch my car in the parking lot. Actually caught a guy the other day while parked outside of a Napa auto parts store taking pictures of my car with his cell phone.

Several of the car-guys I hang out with will intentionally call it:

Vette
S2000
Miata
Porsche
Ferrari

in front of non-car guys to try to goad them (and me).

What about when they ask you if it has a V8 or V12? I always tell them it has the 'optional' V10 !

I think in general, the Vette comment is just someone trying to lead into some dialogue about your car. They like it and try to show some sort of knowledge by asking if it's a Vette which of course it's not. As much as I can't believe it myself, I did confuse a Gen III for a Vette as it was coming up behind me. I think I might need glasses.

No, you don't. Happens to me quite a bit. I see so many Vettes that when I DO finally see a Gen III I usually don't realize it until it is close.

Actually, bifocals might be in order :D Maybe I've dreamt of a Viper so long I'm un-able to make that mistake, to me nooooo comparison  When the Gen III's came out, my thought was Wow a more modern Viper, it's never looked like a vette to me, a life-long car guy.

I tend to agree, that the vette comment is only used by the less educated car person to strike a conversation. I've only heard the Vette comment once (teenage girl), and a pizza shop Ferrari comment, no offense taken with either.

I had two *** guys walk around the car minutes commenting while i was sitting in it in the parking lot receiving a text order for some food. The windows are really dark so they didn't know I was in there. One guys said " I think its a Ferrari" and his buddy replied " is a corvette you ********! Now come open my damn door !" .

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Gen III front end happened first. Then vettes were copied to resemble. And with the hundred thousnds of vettes out there. it's no wonder they mistake our cars. Someone posted earlier, imitation is the best form of flattery!!!

I can see that Viper Vette comment.

Gee, I wonder where the Vette designers got the idea for the ram air placement and the headlights??? The Vette has a pretty plain grill area though. I guess they could not copy that too. :nono: Notice how it is parked real close (almost over the line) to the Viper probably hoping something else would rub off...

I always wondered why Dodge didn't sue Chevy over the C6 design. I mean, c'mon, all they did was change the badging and put in a smaller engine....and a Cavalier steering wheel

and how about that little indentation that the Vipers have on the roof....they even did that too! :eater:

Ill have to be honest here, when the 2003 came out with the top down it really resembles a 2000 camaro from a front side view. The coupe not at all.

Been asked twice in the last couple of months (and I haven't even driven it that much), both were women though so more understandable as they don't tend to be as big a car buffs as men. I don't understand how, I've never seen any vette look like a gen 1 :rolaugh:

I opened the link and read this quote from the author of the story... "This car looks, feels, and sounds just like the real thing for about a third of the price and half the gas. Here’s your chance to get both worlds; Chevy’s reliability and the Viper’s great looks”

When the hell was Chevy, and especially the Vette, known for reliability? Answer: NEVER!

Parked the Viper to pick up dinner one night and a guy in his early 20's looked at it and said "is that a vette?". I chuckled and replied simply "No" and kept walking.

No one on this forum is going to mistake the two, we're talking about people that don't see any Vipers or don't know cars generally.

But anyone that says they don't see any design similarities has no eye for form. There are similarities. That's not an insult, it's just fact.

Just this weekend for the second time, It happened. the first was a wife of a car guy. OK maybe she wasn't too bright and not paying attention, but this weekend a tow truck driver did it! We had my buddies 54 Ford Pick-up towed to my house from the paint shop for final assembly and the tow truck driver asked "what engine is in the Corvette? while pointing to the Viper. I expected more from him.

I really believe the c6 design might have been lifted elsewhere...
