Overheating issue

I have had a overheating issue pop up as of late. To me it acts like a thermostat stuck. It will heat up, then come back down etc... I burped the system and when it starts to get hot it just flows coolant out. Could it be waterpump??

There's a number of related threads on this topic. What year/model is your viper? Any engine mods? Are you getting coolant running out of the front passenger side fascia onto the ground? What type of driving...cruising, spirited, etc? What temp (190-225-pegged) are you getting while driving?

Yes its a 2000 ACR, Heads, Cam, Headers, Exhaust, etc... Not running onto the ground from the front fascia. Just where you put coolant in at, it boils over so to say when the cap is off when it starts to warm up. And if you are driving and it does it, when you pop the hood there where will be coolant all over that side of the engine bay... really *****!

If you have coolant all over that side your pressure reservoir is cracked or there is a hose problem there. That is a sealed container and there should not be fluid there at any time. Besides the fluid loss issue your car will run hotter as it is not running under pressure in the cooling system.

How about the cap (STANT Safety Release Radiator Cap - 10330 (boxed) or 11330 (carded))...can be found at Wal-Mart or any parts place...

Unfortunately, when a Viper overheats the water typically flows from the upper fill tank to the lower overflow tank in the front fascia. Water should not come out from the upper tank. You need to check the upper radiator cap, plastic tank, hose from the upper tank that flows to the lower overflow tank, and the hose that leads from the water pump to the upper fill tank.

Install the radiator cap, run the car and see where the coolant is exiting from.

FYI. If the system does not seal and hold pressure it will indeed overheat :(

Start with a pressure test of the cooling system. Testers are cheap and you can get them at most auto parts stores. System ought to hold 16 lbs at least.

If youn have the car at idle the coolant is not burping so to speak? That could indicate a problem with the headgasket.

Heater also blows warm air?

Yea I would look for a hose/cap issue. Most head gaskets will just seap down the block (will be easy to see from under) or blow white smoke out the exhaust. Most gen 2's center vents **** at blowing hot air out when the heats on.

^ Yea my heater has never blown hot.. Humm. Could give me a reason to build the motor :)

I'm not sure if I ever told you this, but it won't blow hot unless you have it set to the windsheild defogger. Freaked me out when I first got mine too.
