You might want to check the contacts inside your window switches too before pulling everything apart. The contacts can get dirty, if you pry out the centre console dash, its easy to get to the switches, you can take the switches apart and clean the silver contacts up. Ive had to do this a couple of times in my years of ownership
If you do find that the wires holding the shuttle are chewed up inside the winding of the regulator, don't panic. This happened to me. I removed the winding cover (carefully drilling off the lip of the shaft flange) and untangled the wires.
To straighten the wires I held one end of the wire in a vice, then applied some heat using a small gas torch while pulling on the wire. It did not get the wires completely straight but its good enough
I also found it easier to attach the wires to the shuttle first then place the winding back on the spindle shaft.
After replacing the cover you need to secure it, to do this I drilled a small hole into the end of the shaft then fitted a small washer with a self tapping screw.
Its not the greatest job to do, but If you want to save yourself a whole load of monies its worth it, 2 yrs on mine is still working fine

Oh one other thing, also check the wires between the switches and the door, If you open the door pull back the rubber covering the wires and check them for brakes! One of mine was broken
