Hey,

If Dodge would only listen to the comments from the 'weekend race warriors' in regards whats needed to make the perfect car....then the total production numbers would have probaly been stalled right at, or well below, 2700, instead of 27000 over the years.

Even though many do enjoy their cars on the track and run them as hard as they are designed to run, fact is that the relatively few (to the total number of Viper owners) that do, are not enough to support a line of cars.

In order for Dodge to sell some cars they have to make them somewhat usable and Stereo, A/C, heat, power windows and more, doesnt really take away from the car. It does what was (I think) intended with the concept to begin with....make a streetable 'race car'. A marriage of the two.

I for one, and probably many more, would not have considered a car that I couldnt take on a weekend trip due to the unfriendly nature of being set up for track racing.

Sure I love the sounds of a well tuned engine....but some great tunes at times can make the experience even better.

I say....Dodge should build the car as well as they can, with the best possible equipment, to sell it to the public, then let those that want to race it remove what they dont like...not the other way around.

Matt

So you're an all or nothin' kind of guy but you bought a Viper with a crappy radio, crappy interior and no creature comforts? Try Ferrari or Mercedes next time.

Disclaimer: The radio, interior and comfort comments are meant for those who bought the wrong car. Personally, I think it's perfect.
Best comment so far IMO plus the RED button comment is well said too. Now how about those big lip wheels too? LOL.:lmao:

If the wife is in the Vehicle (any) a sound system is a must or I will hear a tune I might not like.

Moparracing , the guys who critisize people liking to have a good sound sysytem in their Vipers are either tone deaf or lost their hearing due to their loud exhaust notes ;):rolaugh:.
I'm not tracking my car ,so does it mean I shouldn't have a Viper , give me a break :lmao:.I love to listen to a good Jeff Beck or Roy Buchanan tune while driving in the twisties on country roads.:drive:

" It's a sports car " . So it's not a race car ,then why not have a radio ?????
.

I even think I remember a thread a while back about your favorite driving songs. I've done some autocross racing in my day and I always had the radio on with the right song. Happy listening...:)

Why are these things mutually exclusive...why can't you do both. :dunno:

Personal preferance I guess, thats the beauty of hot rodding to do what ever the hell you want to your own car, but..............

So you're an all or nothin' kind of guy but you bought a Viper with a crappy radio, crappy interior and no creature comforts? Try Ferrari or Mercedes next time.

still agree with Chuck. There are alot of other cars that do both better.

I didn't know they still made a 6.5 sub, nice find. I need to look into that for my new ACR. Ok let the shouts begin anew. The ACR was bought to compete in the Cannonball One Lap of America. A week long endurance event. Competition on 8 or more tracks, drag racing, road racing, ovals. However, you must drive from track to track sometimes more than 900 miles overnight. So yea I want my tunes and my movies. Keeps you awake at O Dark thirty when you're cruising down some interstate towards Daytona.

This is nitpicking at it's finest. For God's sake, we are talking about the sound system in a friggin' car. I have never owned a Viper but I am about to pull the trigger on a 2009 vert (GTS blue w/white stripes) and I have been wondering what the factory sound system sounds like. I have always enjoyed driving around and listening to good rock/blues. If it's not up to my liking I'll modify it in a heartbeat. To me, good music enhances the driving experience. It's simply a matter of personal preference. Life is short - live it.:2tu:

Really? Look closely.

CC2Seater.JPG

That's a comp coupe BTW. Purpose built race car.

And here's the beloved GTS
GTS2Seater.JPG

Just sayin.

Cool pics. But I was just poking fun at this silly thread. Arguing about this is like competing in the special olympics. Even if you win, you're still ********.

If someone lacks the multi-tasking skills to enjoy both music, and their Viper at the same time. Then why bother commenting in this thread in the first place?? Some of us enjoy more things in life than just our car, so we may very well be interested in souping up the stereo. If you're not interested, then why dog on somebody who does?? Different strokes for different folks, live and let live.

:rolleyes::rolleyes: Thank you for making my point, and witty to boot. A steering wheel is vital to the Viper experience, an 'awesome stereo' is not. We use our radios in our Vipers but my SRT-8 and my wife's Expedition have better systems. More power to the audiophiles, I'm just not one of them.

And a steering wheel if you havent noticed.....

I don't think anyone is arguing here, just having some fun on both sides of the issue.

For me, I don't even turn the radio on to correct the time displayed.

Exactly. I ran the AC and played AC/DC for thousands of miles in my RT/10 until both crapped out years ago and I've never bothered to fix them. Every one of the 125,000 miles I've put on my Viper has been a pleasure to drive with or without tunes and AC. I hope to put another 125K on it and maybe even someday get around to fixing the AC and radio thing, but I aint in any hurry.

how do you do it chuck, :dunno:

tampa is almost as hot as houston,

do you just get squishy or what :eater:

The summers are pretty rough but I sweat with or without the AC. Sometimes I wear a towel under my shirt and pull it out when I get to where I'm going. And sometimes I bring an extra shirt. Every winter I keep saying I gotta fix the AC by summer but I never do.

For the record, I've never criticized anybody for having AC although our sensitive club members will say I have.

I think it's the older ppl that don't listen to music. It was put in the car for a reason and not every one of us is a racer. Everyone has their own prefrence and this argument is just childish...

George , here's a fave for a nice slow cruise
And another one YouTube - ROY BUCHANAN - ROY'S BLUZ(LIVE 1976)

Don't mean to hijack - :sorry2:

But Roy was the man who got me interested in playing the guitar as a child. My brother used to stack his albums flat, in a cubby hole type shelf. I'd have to pick up the albums and peak to look at the covers. Whenever I ran across "That's What I'm Here For" I kept thinking it was Burt Bacharach. (silly child, still in grade school). Then one day I ran across 'Livestock' and threw it on. When Roy's Bluz came on - HOLY $#1T!!!! It was like nothing I'd ever heard before!!! I started collecting his music and taking interest in all the guitar greats. Actually got to see him twice before his untimely passing (still a muddy story to this day).:(:rip:

And the best show I ever saw in my entire life was Jeff Beck on the same tour from above, year before last. It was general admission at some hall in Milwaukee (can't remember the name, have the ticket stub somewhere though).

I was lucky enough to stand right in front, with my elbows resting on the stage!!!! His playing made me laugh and cry with flat out jaw dropping finesse!! I was walking on a cloud for 6 months after seeing that show. Incredible!:2tu::headbang::clap::clap2::hail:

Just thought I'd share:dunno:

Saw Jeff live at the Commodore in Vancouver just a few years ago. He's a motorhead and wonder if he has a Viper since he collects american muscle mainly:2tu:. At the Commodore you can be as close as 10' from the musicians . That girl he teamed up with is pretty good . I have a Guild Starfire III re-issue and played guitars since the early 60's .

Tal Wilkenfeld - She's a MONSTER!!!! Especially at that age! And her stage presence is so nonchalant.
There was a young girl in the audience, grade school age, who apparently won some sort of music competition (I'm assuming Bass) at the local schools and her father was prepping her after the show before she was going back stage to meet Tal.

I playfully offered them money for the pass in $100 dollar increments. When I got to $500 her eyes became big as saucers and told her dad "That's a lot of money!" He kind of gave me a look - Then I told her that she would remember meeting Tal for the rest of her life and that no amount of money would be equal to that experience. Her dad gave me another look, this time more appreciative, knowing that I was only yanking her chain about selling the back stage pass in the first place!

Oh! And the name of the venue is Turner Hall Ballroom. He played upstairs. Picked up the 'Live at Ronnie Scotts' video and a program while we were there.
They were all out of XL and XXL T-Shirts......DAMMIT!!!!!

......life is full of such great memories!!:2tu:

Maybe someday you and I will meet and trade 4's - I would enjoy that!:)

Dan

PS - He mentions in the disc interview that he almost got crushed working on one of his vintage vettes years ago.
Actually smashed his hand and was worried whether he'd be able to play again.....apparently he still can!!!!:2tu::headbang:

I agree, and for the record, the factory system is garbage! It sounds as if it was thrown in as an afterthought with spare parts Dodge had laying around. Although I must say, I did buy the thing for the V10's music, which rocks!

continuing on with things that should have come from the factory:

BBK's !!!!

just installed a four wheel stoptech kit & it is awesome!!!:2tu:
anyone on the fence on this mod being worth the cash, it totally is. Some have said it's only worth it if you intend to track your viper, i say it's worth it even for the street. Night & day difference, a definite "must do"! :headbang:

the kit i used, but from jonb:
Zeckhausen Racing

it does not need the brake bias manual valve, kit is complete & stops well - even from 100mph+ w/o locking up the rears.
