I used 500 miles as my benchmark.

Be sure to change out the factory brake fluid and brake pads, they are not as good as they should be for track use.

Might consider stainless steel brake lines too.

Dipapa..... maybe i should take my purpose track car and granny it on the highway instead-LOL
you know i meant breakin for seating etc.... come on!

I have run Harris Hill before, you will be fine with the stock pads and fluid for short sessions, especially if you are learning the car.

If you get serious about it, the upgrades listed above are necessary.

It's still a factory car for street use.

Don't break your toy now.

The break in procedure that Arrow gave me went to a 1000 miles. They said you are supposed to vary engine speed and raise RPM limit every couple of hundred miles. If I remember properly keep RPMs below 2500 for the first 200 miles, then raise them to 3000 then to 3500 etc until you hit 1000 miles. After that you can beat the heck out of it on the track.

I would also go with a high temp brake fluid and better brake pads. While you might not need them at first, the added confidence they provide is huge.

That's funny because Arrow told me my rebuilt engine could go straight to the track.....

With respect to the 200 mile break-in aforementioned,
Section 3 of the ACR Supplemental Owners Manual refers to the break-in of the brake pads only, NOT THE ENGINE.

500-600 miles, change the oil and rock and roll.

Carbotech pads are a good addition along with higher temp brake fluid, but you likely will be fine learning the car and on a slower technical track with the stock stuff. Frankly I would make sure you got the suspension set up correctly and had a street/track alignment with corner weighting.

Sounds like a winter blah post. I would worry about, if and when you 'pull the trigger' imo.

tommorrow the buy-it -now button gets pushed. that is only if SW cannot find me another at a better deal!!!!
the color i was looing at is the most common '09 viper unfortunatetly, the red w/ black center&driver stripe. I really wanted the color you have (blue with soild black center) but tomball sold it 1 week before i called them :(
again thanks for the input I will definately be chaging the brake fluid for sure then maybe the rest if my instructor says its time and he feels i have progressed to that point that i need to. but at 1st i am going to learn as much as i can about this car.
my last viper was a '03 vert, loved it but traded it for a R8 V10 coupe. I have had the R8 at the track 4-5 times now but honestly it just doesn't do it for me like the vipers.
My buddy bought a gen2 ACR maxed out for the track from SW, and MAN DOES THAT THING FLY!!!! I was in heavan and had sooo much fun in it that i decided to get another viper (this time the ACR) The R8 will stay but more of a special cruise type of toy for me.

Now then...has hearing all the valuable opinions thus far open you to the extent of subjectiveness of this subject and simply further confused you as to what is the correct answer?

2 posters alone said COMPLETELY different things regarding Arrows advice...astonishing!

I as many here, have interest about this and posted the same question last year! go figure....

I spend $$$ and lost some sleep having a viper motor built.
you dont even have the car yet... so chill out for 1 sec.

The answer has gotta come from an authority...preferrably a performance motor builder...someone around both tear down & build of motors through track tests.. yes, a very tough "Superhero" to find.

Likely he can provide good answers to the results of various "motor break in processess" and break in oils on pistons, rings, cylinders..all metallic goodies spinning and lifting.

Now, regurgitating basic info of a general consensus on what i have heard on motor breakin is...

take it high in rpm, but not hold it up there, accelerate quick then decelerate (apply brakes), drive it hard, but not too hard. Oh I dont know first 500 miles change oil.

My motor went through a very brief break in for startup and test drive and then straight to the dyno for further break in after that a bit more road runs for more break in.

So when is break in finally done? another good question?

Is it all speculation, are you gonna believe the vca guys... oh those weekend warriors, or the Dodge guys writing those little tiny books, or someone building race motors everyday all the time?

Can someone with some dam good credentials in motor building say something!!!!!!

some info to start with

well im sure if you ask 5 different pro motor builders you'll get at least 2-3 different answers too.
my 1st viper was bought with 400 miles on it new. a lot i know, I'm sure it was beat to crap from the get go so I didn't really worry about my driving and break in when i took delivery of it.
The car had a cracked exhaust manifold at 2000miles (warranty) and then at 13k it developed a difficult shifting issue, but i traded it before i took it in to see whats what.
cavander audi said they paid the next owner 600 bucks to do some tranny work after he bought it due to that issue I described.
So not sure if the hard driving right away had anything at all to do with it or not??? but the new one will get at least 600 miles of variable driving and braking for a subjectively proper break-in

I have always run them @ 200 miles of break-in, changed the oil, then go. A little looser that way and they always make more power...never had one fail yet...even my CC only had a couple hours on the dyno then raced ever since...@ 80 race hours and zero problems.

500 miles , vary rpms , try to load engine a little bit on slopes and keep the rpms in the 2-3.5k rpms .

change oil@ 500 miles and let it rip . then oil again at 1500 miles and then every 3000 m after that.

did that to my 09 and it PULLS .:2tu:
