gotta change the camera to a 35mm. Now I will start adding materials, lighting, rendering, and then I will composite it with a background or environment.

Nice work, I work with CAD everyday, wish I would have kept up with the 3d stuff. Changed jobs and 8 years later haven't touched it again. Oh well.

Hi Neo Rambo

You wouldnt happen to have a model of the Gen III motor? Im designing a viper powered car on my computer and I'm a little short on Viper engine dimensions. Specifically the front of the motor with all its accessories. Having a hard time figuring out where the cooling system is routed ralative to the rest of the engine. Specifically the outlet at the top left hand side of the engine by the power steering pump. Any ideas? I have Rhino 3d.

Thanks!

Bill

Bill I don't have the engine specs my model isn't to dimensions it might not be to scale in the real world. I can try to see if I can find you some or model it but mine modeling isn't to scale because it's eyeballed things are scaled relationally to each other.

I can't imagine how many hundreds of hours that must have taken! I've done 3d modeling in Pro Engineer and it's a nightmare to create all those curved surfaces!

With that said, if I was going to attempt something like this, I would use a stereoscopic camera setup and just create the 3d geometry directly from the car. We use this technology at work and it's accurate to .000040m. You basically place target stickers on the surfaces you want to measure and you can create VERY accurate .stl models. Of course, .stl files can be a nightmare to work with in Pro Engineer.

Pro E and other engineering software will take longer due to the fact that it is creating solids and everything is to scale.

Modeling in maya is for animation and film so you can achieve models of this caliper much quicker. I model in polygons not nurbs. If I create something in nurbs I covert it to polys. I smooth my polys 2-3 levels making the curbs much smoother.

I'm interested in the stereoscopic camera that your company uses. Can you only export in .stl? or Obj as well. How many vertices or does it work with curves?

I'm doing another render from a different time of the day. I'm going to let that render over night. I haven't had time to add materials to the gas cap/brakes/taillights/reverse lighters/windows/or mirror. I haven't added materials to the amber turn signals or the inside the light assemblies it's not close to done. Just a quick insight of whats to come ahead.

Damn, man...I mess with Photoshop but that 3D stuff is WAAAAY beyond what I'm capable of.

Where are the stripes!? :D
