Thinking about an exhaust for the Viper. No mods, completely stock, and trying to do it on a budget.

Plan is to keep the stock headers (upgrade those in the future), get rid of the stock system and crossover, and go with some high flows from JonB (the random techs) and mufflers.

Now, since its on a budget, i dont wanna drop $1000 bucks on a cat back system kit.

Are there any mufflers (magnaflow, borla, corsa, etc.) that you guys suggest?

Im looking for a deep, throaty sound, nothing raspy. Maybe some sound clips to go along with?

Thanks!

Just look around for mufflers with the diameter piping you want. I just bought some mufflers from a mustang website. 3" in and out... also got some real nice cats.

I am in the same ball park, got 2 mufflers for $200.

Also check out the mega super cool exhaust thread, has a lot of sound clips for exhaust.

Keep your stock cats is a waste of cash to replace them. You can do any bullet type muffler and have a muffler shop do the rest. The problem is not many muffler shops like dealing with Vipers and the side sill, If you can take off the side sill then re install them with few bolts so they can take them in and out for pipe placement you will save a ton of cash. I just took a ride on a friend gen 3 and he used the mbrn mustang mufflers with the stock cats sounded incredible.

Hey Greg....here are some sound clips from my old 03 Vert. It had Dynomax bullets welded in place of the stock mufflers, and the rear cats deleted.

The real challenge with a DIY exhaust on a Gen 3 is dumping the crossover and getting the tips to line up correctly. For this reason alone - it might be worth a couple of extra dollars to get one of the ready made systems. Even with the ready made systems it takes a little time to get the tips right and locked in place. Many will throw on a quick tack weld once you get everything lined up to ensure they don't move afterwards.

That's true. You can buy a set of OEM 08 tips to help solve that problem, if you don't care about shiny tips.

I also want a deep throaty sound, not raspy, for my 08 with Belanger and HF cats. Still waiting to hear the promised sound clip of those Aero mufflers behind headers.

I should receive my Aero's soon, and plan to go with with M&M mild steel headers for Deep ...... not sure what cats to go with :dunno: I'll be taking Mr. Good to lunch in the next couple weeks and will ask :2tu:

I would like to end up with Deep ... not Loud unless WOT :headbang: No Rasp, and the Aero's will let me extend the nice tip out from the side by 1/2", now when Greg works over the motor, it'd be nice to belch some fire :drive:

Great ! We have the same goal for an exhaust sound, cant wait to hear your comment on the system when done. I've read that metal substrate cats are much louder than the ceramic ones. I have the ones that came with the Belanger headers, not sure wich ones they are ?

thanks for all the suggestions.

i was also throwing around the idea of keeping the stock upper cats and just deleting the rear ones, then just getting a muffler and tips put in.

any suggestions on the route i should take with the tips? my exhaust guy is excellent and could probably do anything.

what do you all think about this guy's magnaflow setup?

If you're gonna go custom - get the Gen 4 tips. If you take a close look at that video - the tips don't look right. All depends on how particular you are - but I firmly believe you'll be a lot happier - and probably money ahead if you go with the Gen 4 tips.

I built a system using the Aero turbine 3030xl and was almost happy with it...sounded awesome, but it still had a drone

If you don't want to spend the money on a Corsa Track system, this set up will make you happy and save you some money. Aeroturbine is my second favorite next to the Corsa Track which is the only one that will not drone... I actually like the sound of the Aeroturbine muffler better than the Corsa but the fact that the Corsa does not drone gives it my vote.

So what did you pull together to build your custom system? I am not a fan of polished tips...... but I want to get rid of the cross-over and have a deeper tone....

Thanks in advance!

Havent put anything together. Still in the planning/dreaming stages.

Thinking about going with some magnaflows. Still debating whether to keep the stock cats or go with high flows.
