The one thing I always liked about the Viper is that it is naturally aspirated. I didn't see anywhere in there if Shelby SS is N/A or not...

The shelby will be supercharged.

I don't really feel that you can classify the Shelby Super Snake with a Viper..or even a ZR1 for that matter. The SS Shelby isn't a factory car. It would be more the equilvelant to a UGR Viper, or a Lingenfelter Corvette.

It can have 1,000 hp and it would not matter. All Super Snake owners say the same thing. They do not have enough rubber in back to utilize it so other than arm chair wrestling, it will not be a threat. New Viper needs to have 405s out back and an ability to really use it, like a Quafe diff.

I like the Super Snakes but some of the interior enhancements are pretty kiddy for a car of that price. That and they are very heavy, even with their new aluminum block.

Yep. The Super Snake is a "tuner car." The engine and drivetrain will have no warranty. The article also stated the previous Super Snake could also be had as a no warranty 800hp car.

At the end of the day, its still a Mustang...the same Mustang you can buy with a V6 and Automatic. It's not in a class with a Viper or a Vette....just an average sport sedan with a bad a$$ big time motor!

I just traded in my 2008 GT500 Convertible on my 2006 SRT-10 roadster... I am a Mustang fan..still have a 1969 Mach 1...but quite frankly the 2007 GT500 could never lure me away from my 1996 RT/10...... they are just not comparable and the SS package is a joke with some of the over the top "add ons".....

It can have 1,000 HP..... won't compare to the Viper...

Not a mustang fan myself and I was unaware of the fact that there was no warranty on the GT. It would be nice for Dodge to not only set a high bar but blow the bar to pieces!!

This does pave the way for Dodge to release an OEM supercharged Gen 5. That mustang probably hauls ass, but in a straight line. Give it one turn and it will be all over the place.

I am not a Mustang fan at all, but you have to appreciate a car company that will produce a car with that much HP. I see no one else putting out those kind of numbers for under 100k. Whether it is SC or not HorsePower is HorsePower.

I don't hate Mustangs, actually had a '67 390ci GT back in the day after college. I do appreciate cars like the old Boss 302 and the 428 monster GT500 ('68), but the current Mustang just doesn't impress me...not a big fan of the look. Regardless of how much power it puts out, it is not in a class with Vipers or Vette's or Porsches, etc. 800hp is a lot of hp, but, there is no way I would ever pay $80k or above for a Mustang regardless of how much hp it puts out.

Worked on tones of mustangs inc a few GT500's with the 750 package.. Yes they are quick but with no IRS and a live axle makes them a handfull......

Actually the live axle is the way to go if your drag racing. I agree about the SS being ugly, but hey, it's 50 state legal and you can't say that about ANY tuner cars that make 800 hp.

Way to go Shelby is all I can say, those cars will be worth a mint 30-40 yrs from now.

The new Mustangs are pretty amazing. Saw recently where a GT (not GT 500) out accelerated, out braked and out handled the new M3. I think it was about 30k less too.

Agreed with others. It is still a Mustang, and it looks like the other 50 Mustangs I see every day.

The Mustang you are refering to is the Boss 302 or the Laguna Seca version. The Boss "Starts" at $41,000 and the Laguna Seca is at $48,000. Not cheap by any means, but certainly a cool muscle car. Hey is it just me, or did anyone else notice that the Laguna Seca Mustang paint scheme was lifted directly off the Viper that broke the record at Luguna Seca?

I loved my mustang cobra, you have to keep in mind that not everyone can afford a viper at a young age. At a young age for car enthusiasts like us they have to settle with either a mustang or a camaro...I still think that mustang cobra with Long tubes headers and straight pipe is the meanest sounding car...I don't really care much for shelby...

Give it a year or so... 80K SS will be selling 55K, just like the GT500KR's - List for 83K (or more) for the "early adopters" and then the bottom fell out. That would be the time to buy - if someone wanted one.

Honestly,

Some of you guys have to get over yourselves. Pretty dang arrogant.

Like you guys are never seen in any other car besides your Vipers because it is beneath you. You drive to work in them. You take your vacation in them, etc. A company puts out an 800 HP car and you are complaining about it?

How about this......the Viper has only two seats......you can fit 4 in the Mustang. Seems like a more flexible design to me.

Oh, that is right....they are "cheap" because you all take chemical samples of the plastic and have determined that the molecular structure of the plastic in the Viper is "superior" to the Mustang. What a joke.

And don't forget that the Shelby comes in convert style.
The Viper? At least not now. Maybe never again.

Yep, the Mustang....garbage. Would not be caught dead in one.

They don't even MAKE the Viper any more.

Go buy European cars if you want to feel more important about yourself. After all this country has been through and the crappy economy, an American company puts out a great product. They did not need to be bailed out.:usa:

Your new Eurocar awaits, I am sure that the plastic is far more advanced and heck, it is a bargain in that it is $2,000 less than the base Mustang (never mind that it has 101 hp compared to over 300 for the Mustang)......You might kill yourself with the horsepower. Safety first!

Besides, it has a great warranty so the people that have no mechanical skill can just pull into the dealer and not get their hands dirty because they are too important.

You can also kiss up to the "powers that be" on this board and tell them what a fine job they are doing....Give the Americans 1/3 the horsepower and stupid styling. Just be sure to call it "Euro". They will buy it anyway because they are such rubes.

Your chariot awaits....:lmao:

patent is dead on. you guys would be pretty pissed if a lambo owner had that kind of opinion of you and your beloved viper....

that kind of attitude gives us a pretty crappy name. its no wonder the mustang, camaro, tuner crowd talk to negatively about us viper owners. heck a gen1/2 can be had for song these days, a gen 3 = song plus a few bucks. its not like they are so exclusive. you see them more and more now on the streets cause guys need to drive them to work to keep them and make it work for them.

where is 1bad when we need him ?

a mustang sitting next to a viper is no different than a viper sitting next to a lambo.
