Have been palying with the idea of putting a 358cui Dodge R5/P7 NASCAR engine in my 97 GTS.

Does anybody know where to get one of these engines, and has this been done before??

Haven't heard of that swap before (and here I was thinking I was on the edge trying to slap a Gen 4 in a GTS!)

I know there have been some serious drag car GTSs with keith Black V8s, but I would imagine everything starting from the wiring and ending with the mounting points for just about everything else would need to be changed.

You have no idea how expensive Nascar motors are do you. Lets put it this way you could probably build a viper motor and install a twin turbo setup for cheaper.

Well, lets look at it like this..any time I need something for my GTS it cost an arm an a leg, so yes I do have an idea of how much this could cost..let me give you an example..just to import a gen 2 viper to Norway, would cost you about $100.000 + in taxes alone..and that is not counting the fact that you first have to buy the car, pay for shipping to get it here, pay for freightforwarding fees in the US and Norway, get the certified papers from Dekra in Germany to license it..then you have to do the modifications to make it fit the European DOT standards, and finally you have to go through DOT inspection to get it aproved on all points that DOT requiers to give you a licenseplate to drive it legaly on the road.

Maybe a NASCAR motor is not so expensive after all.

It will most likely cost you more for the motor than the entire car, if thats what your taxes are like. In other words a Nascar motor is much more expensive than a used and possibly even new viper.
