Hi All, I have been reading here for sometime and really just want some advice. I am not real big on changing to much from the stock setup as I hope to get an 08 in the future and feel my 01 will be easier to sell closer to stock.

All I have done is take away the mufflers and put on a X-Pipe. I did it for sound and I am very happy with it.

I am considering spending $1000-$4000 for upgrades but it seems you either spend one or the other and not much in the middle. Some of my considerations.

ROE Racing - Smooth Tubes $112.79
ROE Racing - SCT Xcalibert $520.96 (anything more I should know?)
ROE Racing - K&N Air Filters $87.23
Vipair - Air Intake - $149 (anyway these things actually work?, I would pay this along if the car runs any cooler)
Headers?

I like the idea of NOS but I can barely get my golf clubs in the trunk as is.

Thanks everyone!

K & N's and Smooth tubes for sure. I don't think there'd be much to gain with and SCT b/c you don't have any mods to "re-tune". Headers aren't much for $/hp. Roller Rockers would be good...

Buy a used supercharger kit, all those mods may be worth 15 hp and thats only due to the tuner if you have a pro calibrate it. Everything else is either better off as a door stop or may 1-2 hp at most.

If you plan on spending 4k you are very close to a used supercharger setup, and then your really going to be happy.

Used Supercharger kit is gonna be more like $5500-$6500, depending on which one. Then you have to get it tuned. What's your HP goal? I would add high flow cats to your list...

$5500-$6000 is just to far out of my price range.

If I could keep it around 2k I would.

Maybe High Flow Cats and Headers? K&N because I need new stock filters anyways? Which CATS, Which Headers? Do you need to Dyno or SCT tune after these? Will I need to pull out the X-Pipe and put on exhaust?

Any ideas of someone in Minnesota who works on Vipers?

Thanks for everyone's help, this forum is always helpful.

Only way to do that for $2k would be with used headers. I think they start about $1200 and go to $2500? (not including install.)
Headers only would net, what, about 10-12 hp? add RR's, no cats or hi-flows and you'd net what SoCal posted

For 2k you should get exhaust/drop in air filters and a tune of some sort.

You can get a used paxton kit complete for $4500-5,000. And your looking at a 150hp gain at the wheels.

To be honest...I'm still scratching my head, wondering why you would trade down to the '08? :nono:

Smooth Tubes & Filters (I have the s&b) are the absolute first mods IMO. Headers will run you around $2-3k after installation(depending on which ones you get) I believe, & to me are not justifiable for the return. High Flow Cats to me should be high on your list also(for cooler sills if nothing else). They say for the money the 3.55 gears are the absolute best mod (seat of the pants makes it feel like you added 60-80hp). Vipair air intake, that thread is still going (I've heard it doesn't help until you get up to 80mph & then its still up in the air if it does), I had actually asked one of the other members about the vipair last night cause I was thinking about getting one too, if for nothing else it looks good. I just can't decide if it looks around $175 (after shipping) good. Don't do anything you can't un-do or at least keep your old parts in case you do sell. JMO & Good Luck!

Anyone know someone in Minneapolis that works on Vipers? Not sure I am gifted enough for Cats/Heads etc...

Which brand names should I be looking at for headers, cats? Is a Dyno or SCT needed if I did those 2 things?

I forgot to add this, here is what ROE Racing sent me.

I would add a set of S&B Filters paired up with a set of smooth tubes. That combination alone with add 17 rear wheel horsepower. After that I would add the SCT programmer which will add about 20-23 rear wheel horsepower. The most restrictive part on the Vipers are the catalytic converters. The stock cats are robbing about 20 rear wheel horsepower. If you simply switch over to our direct replacement hi-flow cat set you will pick up another 20 rear wheel horsepower. With just the 4 mods I have listed, your car can pick up about 55 rear wheel horsepower.

CScott, contact Archille Lessard (Stacy,MN.) 651-4624664, he's the president of the Minn. region. I'm not sure how close Stacy is to Minneapolis, Good Luck!

If you're looking to buy a 2008, why not just leave your 2001 as is?

Ditto...not sure what the OP's goals are.

If you want the '08....then sell the '01, stash the cash and wait.

You will never get back whatever mods you put into it.

I dont need to get my money back, I am guessing it is going to be another 4 years before I can afford a 08.
