Hello everyone,

I'm currently on the hunt for my dream Viper after selling my Corvette. I'm interested in the 97-98 GTS with no more than 40,000 miles, perferablely between 20 and 30k miles. Red is my is color of choice but I'll consider silver as well. I am of course looking for a very well maintained and cared for Viper with no stories, drama or accidents. I can spend no more than 35.5k on one at this time. Any help is much appreciated! This has been a dream of mine for a long time and I can hardly believe I'm so close to making it happen!
:drive:

Thanks in advance!

Thanks Toohot4u! Hope you find yours soon so you can enjoy the rest of the summer with it! Lol Andrew, I was wondering what was taking the members of the Yellow Clan so long to say something about my superior color choice. No surprise it took y'all awhile to get here, that happens when you drive yeller cars, they're just so darn slow.:pbt:

He he...lots of newbies seem to be choosing red....rookie mistakes, perhaps? :dunce:

Such uninformed choices make yellow that much more rare and valuable...:smirk:

Which do you see more of...mud or diamonds?

There you go...:poke:

And, it may be awhile before "toohot4u" gets one. He's still living at home with Mom and Dad...:push:

Of course, red ones don't cost as much, so he'll probably be getting that color too (like the millions of other red ones you see on the road)...:*****:

Trust me Andrew when I get it I will come live with you. If that is OK with your mommy and daddy. Just imagine two Vipers in the drive way. A **** RED one that the women love and a slow *** Yellow one.

Lol...thanks for the offer, but no...don't want that red one to leak all over my driveway.:sbones:

And I'm sure your mommy wouldn't let you out of her sights, anyway. :baby:

I don't see how that could be, Red has been the color of choice since 1989. Yellow didn't creep up to the starting line until 94 and only 83 people were deranged enough to buy them. :catfight:

Anyways to get remotely back on topic; does anyone know anything about this car;
VIN 1B3ER69E6WV400087
It's a little more than I'm looking to spend but I haven't found anything wrong with her, other than the side bolster being a little worn.

ALWAYS run the VIN thru a friendly Dodge dealer before you go too far. Then try Carfax, etc., etc. Have a Viper Tech inspect car, ask local VCA for info.

MAYBE well known and respected North Carolina Viper Tech Tom Sessions will see this post and chime in.

Best of luck with your hunt !!

How many members here...that is how many opinions there are.

Do your research, don't be afraid of use. Abuse is another thing, but use...no big deal.

You're going to pay more for more perfect. I bought my 4th Viper, I'm the 4th owner, it was tracked, I track it, its got some patina, I don't worry as much about where I park it, most folks don't see the minor imperfections...they see VIPER. It's weird. I drive it more than my daily driver and haven't washed it since the last trip to Willowsprings.

Life's to short to park That's one opinion. Another thought is to bubble wrap the thing and lock it in a garage....that sounds like fun...

Do what makes you happy, ignore the rest.

First off Welcome to the Forum Guys, I know your very excited but TAKE YOUR TIME & DO YOUR HOMEWORK. Theres plenty of Vipers out there & in all styles & colors, what ever you do don't be afraid you're gonna ask a dumb question cause theres no such thing. There is also a wealth of knowledge on here with plenty of guys/gals ready to help, this is by far the best car club in the world & it won't take you long to realize that because everyone on here is ready to help at the drop of a hat. Good Luck & Ask Away!

'02 is a great year!! I highly recommend it!

Steve-Indy is exactly correct, Dodge dealer for records, then Carfax, then Viper Tech before you pull the trigger....You're gonna love owning a Viper. Oh, and there's an illness that happens to many Viper owners...its called "Mods" and its highly contagious.

Aaron

Maybe the unfunny red versus yellow played out jocularity can stop hijacking every thread?
Just a thought.

Thanks for all the input, tips, and help everyone! It has been extremely useful. This has already surpassed my Corvette experience hands down! It truly is the people that make the experience worth while, I can't wait until I'm able to meet some of y'all and go for a cruise in my first Viper!

Dear RPMguy,

Just wait til you attend a VOI (Viper Owner's Invitational) then you'll really understand why its so easy to really get into what the Viper embodies....from track time, autocross, drag racing, plus the cruises to scenic venues with 30+ other Vipers makes for a very enjoyable experience.

Oh, c'mon....lighten up, VJ. No need to get those serious ******* in a bunch.:crazy2:

Back on topic....patience is the key. Do not rush a purchase like this, and take your time to check out everything before you drop down that cash.

I bought my first Viper on Craigslist, and had it checked out by a mechanic down the street before I closed the deal. The second one (BRIGHT **** YELLOW) was found on eBay, about 2500 miles away from me. I worked with a great VCA member to have him check it out from top to bottom before I proceeded.

So, guess my message is that they are out there all over the place, but no matter where you are looking, make sure you take your time and do your homework.:drive:

Good luck! :2tu:

Timnineside, that statement does not make any sense. Sober up and pick the beer cans up off the floor then start all over again. It should be a law against drinking and texting. As you can see they dont mix well.

Bought our first 97 GTS a couple months ago (red w/silver stripes). The silver stripes are an add on but I like them better than the factory white stripes. 21K on the clock, clean car, clean history, $31K. It even had the original rear tires which I replaced with PS2's. Rock solid! I still have the 81 Vette, but it's on the way out. Looking for the next GTS in a couple months; either sapphire blue, gray, or black. Hope you find a good one!
