please take your time to inspect carefully. I have a car dealer trying to sell me a 2001 RT with just 2500 miles on it. Thus far, I have only viewed the pictures they provided me. Here is the web site http://edmunds.autotrader.com/fyc/v...e=b&num_records=25&cardist=865&standard=false

Take a good look at the driver side seat. Notice how worn out the seat is for a car that claims to have only 2500 miles on it. These are the little things you have to take note of. From my car buying experience there is no way this car has only 2500 miles on it. Although the Car Fax states it is a one owner I am not a bit impressed with this Viper.

It doesn't look that bad to me. The cognac seats were real leather if i'm not mistaken. Maybe theres a local VCA member that could check the car out for you. Aftermarket exhaust for sure on it.

That seat looks fine. That car looks appropriate for the miles. Price is high but the car appears fine. Remember, fat guys drive Vipers too! And not all owners are picky with the cosmetics.

That car looks very nice to me, but its definitely over priced. I would think 40k would be plenty high enough, cause you're going to have to buy new tires (around $1,500 after mounting & balancing) it also said it had a rear wing spoiler, guess I missed that one. Do you know anything about the dealership, you could probably get one of the members on here to go & check out the car & if they live there locally would probably know something about the dealership. I must agree with the others that have posted. While the price is on the steep side, the interior looks fine to me. I recently acquired a red 2002 GTS with Cognac interior (seats are indeed real leather) and while the color is a bit off in the photograph, interior quality looks to me to be every bit as good as mine. The best thing of course is to be able to actually view it in person. That should clear up any concerns.

There's been a lot of "that seat looks bad for the low miles" type comments over the years. I think its just the quality of leather may degrade quicker than some cars. That or as mentioned above, fat owners and/or not entering/exiting the car carefully.

I would be more concerned about the crums on the window switches..... Also why would you even look at the car that closely with its price WELL above what its worth? And on another note I would be more worried about the tires, not the seat. And I didn't see any wear on the seat either. But if it did have some, maybe the guy that owned it just got in and out of it in the garage and never actually drove the car.......

I would probably focus your attention on cars that you may actually buy...> Shoot maybe you would have one buy now!

Nope, never. That thread was too epic. I was between that and "I bet most low mileage 2001 RT/10s are owned by fat people" but I decided to just go to the basics.

seat looks just fine.

youre the guy worried about gas prices and you are looking at this way over priced car ? and then worrying about the condition of the seats rather than the tires and maintenance items.....

The description of the car does not match the car. The exhaust tips are not original. The description says it has a spoiler, under the hood light, folding mirrors and the list goes on. Just thought I would point this out. I would definitely want to see this car in person.

Agree with others as well... seat looks appropriate for miles claimed.... look at the pedals as well... that clutch pedal looks like low mileage use.....

Come on guys......a car with only 2500 miles on it and the leather driver seat looking like that. Heck I just saw a 1994 RT with only 9000 miles on it and the seats look like they were never sat on. This makes me think that the mileage may have been rolled back.

Why don't you post a pic of the seat and point out the wear cause I sure don't see any.

tohot4u....You may have seen a '94 where the leather looked better...but the Gen 1 and Gen2 seats are completely different and comparisons do not apply. Gen 2 leather does get it's "normal" creases much quicker than the earlier cars. Mileage rolled back? Too easy to check on that to play that game. Geez.

You must be looking at some high resolution pictures in order to see wear patterns ? There is no way to make a judgement based on the low-res pictures on autotrader. Are you pointing to the fact that the leather has some slight wrinkle/folds in it ? That's normal.

As far as "please take your time to inspect carefully." I definitely agree. I would never buy a car sight unseen. Photos are a reasonable way to decide on whether to invest in the time to go take a look. However, photos are often misleading and very susceptible to lighting conditions.

To check actual mileage can't you just take it to the dealer? Don't they just plug it in and it tells actual mileage?....

Yeah but don't forget that weather/heat can make a big difference so depending on where the car is located yeah it might look a lot more worn if it were a Florida car compared to a Michigan car and also some owners will have top off and other on and there's always other factors like short drives verses long drives so in and out count can vary. Like others said you really have to inspect in person, there's other tell-tale signs to look for, bottom line is for a car with 2500 miles on it everything else better be almost brand spank'n new with virtually no bumper/hood chips etc...

I bought an 04 Maserati with 7100 miles last year, the car has 6 owners, and the interior looked like the car has 100k on it, it was just completely worn out (buttons turned different colors, seats had so much wear). Some people just don't care about there cars I guess, needless to say I did get the Maserati for an amazing price :)

You again?

You need to stop dreaming about Vipers, wasting our time, and move out of your parents' house.

And after you do all of that, then maybe you'll finally be ready for that Pontiac Solstice. Think of it as a mini-version of a Viper, which is probably about as close as you'll ever get.

And even then, mommy will have to co-sign.
