brakes squeaking more than normal.

I am having "extra" squeaking from the rear brakes lately.

I just had the pads checked (60% left) and fluid flushed. I also did a track event in Hastings a couple of week ago.

I have always had a little noise with the brakes as many have had, but it was light and at slow speeds like 15 or less. Now the brakes are really squeaking more often and at higher speeds, I can hear it at 50.

After reading a few threads I tried re-bedding the brakes with some hard stops at different speeds and that didn't seem to make any difference.

I then fell on the threads about the ebrake. I did try and pull up the ebrake real quick at like 20mph and the sound goes away for a few seconds. After experimenting with this a little it seems like if you pull the ebrake the brake engages, then when released it pull back off of the rotor. Then "I am guessing" that the caliper relaxes after the use and the ebrake pads end up lightly rubbing on the rotor.

I don't feel any grooves in the rotors on the outside.

I do have 24K miles on the car. Yeah, it's an 08 I like to drive it more than look at it.
Do I have to replace the ebrake pads?
I read a thread where the calipers might have issues, would this be under warranty?

Any ideas would be helpful before I have to pay money for someone to "look" at it.

It sounds like your ebrake pads are gone. I know the Gen III's have an issue with that (and I had it on mine). It's the inside pad that stays in contact with the rotor, so you won't see anything on the outside of the rotor. You'll have to pull your wheel and check out the inside of the rotor and check the inside ebrake pads.

I posted something similar a couple months ago, just after the car was PA inspected. In PA, all four wheels are pulled, and all brakes and rotors check, mine were fine. Nothing wrong that I can see, she just squeals like Ned Beatty sometimes. Nature of the beast. Follow TowDawg's advice above, but if it checks out, it is what it is. I have 26,280 on my 03.

WHAT HE SAID..............Common on Gen 3 with miles on em....inside pad is hidden from view unliss you lift it.... and it can RUIN the rotor and even the caliper if you dont act soon.

I will work on checking out the ebrake pads. I just did a search and can't seem to find a place to get them or the cost.

Didn't see them at PartsRack. Only found an Ebay ad for Xvipers (PASS).

Any ideas where to find the Ebrake Replacement Pads for Gen IV and cost?

I got my Gen III's from Scharf, but VPA might have them as well. The price will make you choke. It's not like they are an extremely high dollar amount, but they cast the same as a set real damn pads! I think I paid a $100 for a set of 4 which does both sides.

I experienced this problem on my '06. Ended up paying $144 for the e-brake pads at the dealership. I could not find them cheaper on Ebay. I also ended up replacing my rear rotors since the inner sides were scored. Wasn't cheap...they were Eurotek two-piece rotors that cost $600 for the pair.

Pads are cheap compared to the cost of the rotors, so follow the advice of many and replace them soon.

The rotors if they have an issue will not be covered by warranty as they are a wear and tear issue, and likely you are out of the original warranty at this juncture. Rotors were occassionally covered on some SRT vehicles due to a wear issue ( RRT memo ) , but it has never been a real concern on Vipers.
