called two friends who are movie makeing savi and told them I wanted to make a short vid that would rival the famous viper burnout vid on youtube with the green vert...

with only a days notice they showed up with 3 cameras and a partial costume. But what drew the most attention was a 40 pound rotateing 8 foot long tripod system on wheels. It looked like we were shooting a movie with that thing.

So we spend an hour setting up and getting walking and static shots of the costumed character and the car and finally it was time for the burn out...

I FAILED

the first attempt I SMOKED the clutch so bad I couldnt go into reverse for a few minutes...Then gradually I got better but we never got the solid 5 second in place burn out we wanted...

kinda ashamed to ask but any tips on how to get the best burn out...The cars a 2003 srt with 500 rwhp and 540 rwt

Twister, i know if you try long and hard enough you will figure it out. Use the brake gently when you get those tires spinnin. Good luck, looking forward to seeing another set of tires gone lol

I remember the first time I ever lit mine up I finally took my foot out of it about 20 yards down the road. :) 2500 RPM and dump it, adjust from there. :drive:

Yeah, gotta rev her up a bit. Another option is to spray some tire wet/tire cleaner on the tread. This will get them moving a lot easier, and less wear and tear on the tire.

Good luck, and lets see a video!!

lol, the green vert burnout is mine.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FidoUnp2o0M

It was a test for a movie I was working on. It gave me some ideas for the real shoot which actually blew the viper burnout out of the water.

Speaking of water, throw some water and bleach down to help get the smoke going. Also, check out the pavement you are on. That is going to make a difference. Some pavement is just really grippy. If you look at the first shot of my video, the car was just getting pushed around with locked front tires because there was so much grip on that pavement. I eventually ripped the road up a bit and was able to get the car to sit still lol On the shoot for the movie, I had better pavement to shoot on which made it easier to spin the tires without pushing the car around. I also shot at night with a lot of lights backlighting the smoke which looks killer. I also shot at 120 fps and did super quick camera tracks and dollys which are amazing in slow mo. Good luck, post the video.

Best burnout video ever made. Except maybe Jeremy spelling out "Viper" with his back on Top Gear. ;)

Anything that Clarkson does is in a whole other league, but having his mention in the same post as my video is a huge honor. Top gear and Top Gear Russia did link to my burnout a few months back :headbang:

I have NEVER Understood WHY guys do this with any car, can somebody explain what it is that you Love about doing it(maybe I just see money going up in smoke). I know its not just the younger guys cause some of the older guys do it too. Do I just need to chill & give it a try? Also, what about wheelhop. JMO

I highly suggest you look into Testosterone Therapy or pull the stick out of you ass. :D

Seriously, get you a nice big smooth surface, rev it up to about 2500RPM and literally take it for a spin or two. It's cathartic.

What is the song called? It sounds like one of those trailer music CDs, but I can't place which one it is. I love that stuff. I listen to it when I plan out shots. Totally puts me in the mood.

OK FrgMstr, I will go & find that big smooth surface & see what I've been missing all these years, hopefully I'll do a better job than Twister!

Seeing his other video this morning, I don't think you will have an issue outdoing him. (insert yellow Viper joke here) :D Just give yourself lots of room till you know how to control it.
