I have had my Venum Red w/ Silver stripes for just over a year now. I have received many positive comments on the color and that they have never seen one this color before. I often hear that they always see the Black, Blue, and Viper Red but never a metallic Red.

If you consider the Gen IV models '08, '09 & '10 (similar styles), there are more, Black, SSG, and Viper Red models than the Venum Red. So I do not consider Venum Red over produced.

There are not as many Venum Red cars out there as everyone keeps discussion on VCA. It is just that there were several made for just one year. Heck, there were a total of 319 SSG cars made in '08 & '09 compared to 391 Venum Red.

Now in the grand sceme of everything, there are not that many Vipers out there. So that makes all of our cars exclusive.

If I remember correctly, How many GTS Blue with white stripes were produced itn 1996...if memory serves me correctly that would be 200 or how many FE Red with white stripes...200. So how does 178 Venum Red Coupes all the sudden become over production?

Good comments Husker, as all Viper colors are rare in comparison to other vehicles. I believe you are referrring to the 2006 First Edition Blue/White Vipers that had 200 vehicles made as there were over 1000 96 Vipers built in said color combination. The Final Edition saw 360 Red/White Coupes/ACRs done , and it ironically was the most prolific of the models done in 2002. Consequently, a more rare machine was the yellow/black striped 2002 Coupe which I think only 37 were done. The Red/White combo came back in 2006 as the VCA Edition and only 50 were done, so again numbers can be quite small depending on the year.

Even though both you and I have Venom Red cars, the reality is it was the most produced color in 2008, hence the rationale some folks have that it was overproduced. This goes out the window over the years with one year colors or combinations , as it then becomes the only year to some extent that you can get the model if you enjoy it. The example I would use was the Final Edition in 2002 which was extremely common, but over the years , regardless if it was the most common paint scheme of that year, if one wanted a Red/White Gen II your only choice to get one was 2002 --hence demand has stayed strong.

In response to the comment of others that Dealers could not have been so foolish to order a color not knowing what it was is sadly very true. I got numerous calls from Dealers wanting to know what they could do because Dodge sent them the wrong color on their Viper order. It was so severe that Marketing noticed it and was smart to discontinue the color for 2009, as though popular they found that many Franchises were not attuned to the differences in color choice for red. A simple reason why so many Dealers that frequent this site have pressed for more accountability for Viper Dealers, stricter requirements , tech and sales training, etc. as these things went out the window under Daimler's rule and the ones that really suffered were you, the consumer. With the folks in charge now, we all see a very bright future with car guys running Viper/SRT and committed gearheads like most Snake owners are will have a much more stable network of dedicated Dealers for sales and especially service.

Biggest reason that there are so many is that Dealers with little knowledge ordered a boatload of them, not realizing the difference between Venom Red and Viper Red. It ended up being the most common color for 2008, was discontinued in 09 ( except for one car that was done in an ACR if I remember correctly ) , so some popularity has come back due to it's one year status.

It was profound enough that Dealers called Dodge asking why they were sent the wrong color. With there being more Venom red cars than any other in 2008, there will be more for sale simply by supply.

Bill could not say it any better. With the Venom Red and Viper Red confusion, there were a lot of angry dealers but Dodge ceasing the color in 2009 was the smartest thing the could do. By doing this it allowed the market to level out since there were so many Venom Red cars. In 2008, Venom Red cars were the most common color for sale and as a result could be had cheaper than all other comparable colors, but now that it was a one year color, the prices have seemed to have leveled a bit with no major significant difference between the other colors, unless you speak on Viper Orange or SnakeSkin Green.

Thanks Austin! I was going to post some pictures of my car and you beat me to it (post 38: pics #1, #4, & #5). I'll be the first to admit that VR wasn't something that I was looking for. I wanted Viper Red, SSG, Very Orange....something wild...but I got a great deal on the VR and have been very pleased with it. No regrets.

No problem, Chris! Your coupe is one of my favorites. Nice choice on the 6 spokes. ;)

I like the Venom Red (own a Viper red w white stripes). Along with colors like graphite with stripes think it makes the Viper look even more... expensive... or exclusive: Gives it class!

Lee hit it on the head. Only 3 colors were available when ordering opened up... and green was never presented prior to ordering (so would have been a guessing game for most).

Joe,

Lee and I have discussed this alot in the past , and having only a few colors to choose is part of the equation ( neither green or Venom Red were shown and in fact the Green came out in videos and other items with alot more presence than the Venom Red ). The underlying problem was that most Dealers ordered the car not knowing the difference in the Venom Red and Viper Red. Classic case of why full training and a committment to the Viper is a necessary requirement for Dealers in the future. I had two distinct instances where Dealers ordered 5 Venom Red cars and called us wanting to know what to do about getting the wrong vehicle from Dodge. Flat did not know the difference in the color and were angry at Dodge , not themselves for sheer stupidity. Over the 2008 model year we recieved numerous calls from Dealers complaining about getting the wrong color that they order ( still denying it was their fault ) wondering if we had any interest in purchasing? The confusion was enough that Marketing heard about it and I know that John Gastman at Roanoke also got similar calls to what we heard at Woodhouse.

Most were small Dealers , though a couple of decent size ones also got caught in the confusion ( their own ).

Due to confusion , the color did not resurface in 09 and now due to this and other factors it has become a one year color. There has been a small resurgence in folks wanting it now due to it's relative scarcity, and that is common with alot of Viper colors ( graphite 2002s, Sapphire Blue 2001s, Viper Violet 2008s for just a few other examples )

I had tried to buy a solid Venom Red ACR from Tomball but missed it by a day. I would have painted dual champagne stripes on it. The color is striking in person IMO. Didn't turn out too badly because I ended up with ACR pictured in my Avatar.

For me, the Venom red was the only color I could live with. Definitely not an "in your face" statement as others are. Reflects my personality.

In my humble opinion quite possibly the best looking car out there. And unless they nail it with the next Gen and have an equal or better metallic red paint color, this will remain a fact for decades to come. I only wish I could find a good deal or make a bit more money and get in one soon.

Great shot but the front plate *****! We have that law here in Ohio, but so far in 100K Viper miles, I've never been hassled by the cops for not mounting it.....
