6 years ago did I start a project with the intention to build a Dodge Viper for in my opinion one of the most challenging Drag Racing classes, Super Stock Eliminator (NHRA).
The GTS was bought from a Microsoft Executive and taken to Phil Mandella (PMR Race Cars) to be transformed to a Super Stocker.
I asked Kevin at EED if were willing to build the engine, he agreed.
The chassie build took about a year, 6 months in California and the remaining 6 months here in Sweden.
The engine was way more challenging the Kevin expected it to be. The goal was set to increase the horsespower with 100% and still follow the strict regulations in Super Stock. (Free intake and camshaft only. Stock Valve size, stock runner volumes, stock compression, stock trottlebodies etc) After a LOT of work, numerous dyno runs, camshaft swaps, oil starvation problems etc did Kevin finally reach our goals. I'ts a top notch build!

The engine is now sitting in the Super Stock Chassi and we are right now only waiting for the midplate and a custom made set of headers from American Racing Headers to be made.

This will as far as we know be the first Viper in the NHRA Super Stock class.
Our race season starts in May here in Sweden, so we have pleny of time to solve remaining problems. :)
When the car is sorted out do we plan to ship it to US and attend some of the NHRA races.

The first few pics from when the Viper arrived to the shop and the CM-chassi/back-half/cage was fabricated.
We started out with a slightliy front ended 99-GTS, tore it apart and sold off parts not needed :) This was actually the Viper that "gave" the Viper sound to one of Microsofts racing Computer Games :)

Very cool indeed. Custom fabbed intake and all. Do you know (or can you say) what kind of crank HP that mill makes and how fast you plan on spinning it?

I'm not sure if your familiar with the NHRA Super Stock regulations, but they are as follows.
Stock Trottle Bodies
Stock Oil System
Stock volume/size of valves and intake/exhaust runners
Stock Compression
Stock Crank

Free Camshaft/Valvetrain
Free Intake
Free Exhaust

The Dyno showed +800 hp.

One more pic from the build. (Looks like I'm not allowed to upload more pics! What to to?)

To be Super Stock legal you are not allowed to do what you want with the chassie.
The back half must be a "real" back half, you are not allowed to cut the floor, the stock frame must be intact from beind the seats and forward. The wheelbase must be stock as well. To get long enough 4-link bars did we have to build a 3-link, instead of two top links do we have one link from the center of the 3rd member that goes into the transmission tunnel... :) That will give smoother chassie reactions compared to having a to short 4-link.
The rear end is a 9 inch Mark Willams 40 spline shafts and gundrilled with 5.00 gear (Spole), Lamb lightweight brakes on all corners.
Changing the front 6-bolt pattern to 5-bolt was a nightmare. The regulations dont allow you to use aftermarket parts, so we had to find a 5-bolt Chrysler spindle that would fit nicely between the stock Viper A-arms...we ended up with Dodge Dakota spindles.

Looks Great!!!! I'll be watching this thread....

FWIW...If you are having trouble finding parts let me know.

I have a lot of experience in that area.....

These are "stock" in my class....
(But they are Dakota spindles........:rolaugh:)

You guys both have some great builds and I really enjoy seeing them.

jp on uploading pictures. Just upload the file to imageshack or where ever then get the direct link and try and put

in back of the link.
I would love to see more pics.

I forgot to add... try and size the pic to 600 by whatever pixels so it doesn't scale the page too large.

Cheers
Mike

Since the fuel cell, pumps, filters and lines are inside the rear of the car have we blocked off the drivers-area with a lexan window. To get fuel spill on your racing suit sitting in a wrecked car is not what you want, the Lexan-window will hopefully help in case of bad-luck...

The chassie took about a year to complete, it's been sitting since then. The engine development did take longer...6 years. But now are we putting it all together, this week will the Engine midplate be cut and I will do a prototype of Header flange that I can sen to American Racing Headers to get a custom made set for this engine...

Now back to were we are today.

I just received the dxf-file so that we can have the midplate cut. When we receive the plate will the next step be to move the engine to have it centered in the chassi (Stock engine is moved to the right...)
