Hi Everyone,

I have been around the site for a while now, researching, learning, and getting to know the Viper better. Since I can remember I have always wanted a Viper. Well, that dream will soon be able to come true! This past summer I sold my GTO and I am hoping to get the Viper when the weather breaks sometime around the beginning of Spring (longing for a new toy for the empty garage!).

I am bringing this to the club's attention now because of the GenV. I'm sure there will be members looking to sell their current Viper to get the new GenV. To those that are considering this, I may be very interested in your car.

I will be looking for the following:
  • GenIV (2008 or newer)
  • Low mileage -- preferably around 5,000 miles or less. However will consider all mileage cars below 12,000 considering the situation.
  • Bone Stock or very limited modifications
  • MUST BE A COUPE
  • 1 Owner, Adult Driven

I've come across a couple cars on the web, however I want to purchase a car that I know the history on and the club can vouch for. Obviously I'll be looking for 'like-new' condition. I'm willing to work with private parties and/or dealers. Basically, whoever has the best opportunity for me.

Also, any advice that you can offer would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Bryan

Hey Bryan. Couple things in your post that stand out. Vipers often change hands and with very low mileage. 5,000 - 12,000 miles is nothing on these cars, so may not want to totally discount cars with multiple owners or a little more miles especially if someone can vouch for the cars integrity. BTW I have almost 9,000 miles on my 08 and it is pristine.

Good luck in your search, hope you find what you are looking for.

There are 38 VCA Regions. Looking in what area?

If you haven't contacted VCA regions nearby you might consider that first to get the word out with specifics on what you are looking for.
Many are having holiday parties that can sometimes be one of the most attended events of the season(and members talk about if their Viper is for sale too.)
Ask a local VCA region if you would be able to attend this type of event?
Some have auctions with cool Viper stuff and all have a great time with fellow VCA Viper owners.
Good luck with it.

Thanks All!

HyperViper -- That's good advise. My requirement about a one owner car is more directed towards any dealership cars. My concern is that the seller (whoever that may be) can provide the car history that I'm looking for without any past issues. Regarding the mileage, again, it's just a guideline. If there is a car with more mileage but is in great condition of course I will look at it.

Venomiss -- Good point, sorry about that! To clarify, I live in Frederick, MD. I have been communicating with a member (AbsoluteHank, Ryan) and I will continue to do so, however I can't post in the section; any idea why?

Good advise about the pricing too, however I have to wait until the spring. One, I'm not ready right now and my wife will kill me. Two, I couldn't stand looking at in the garage for months without being able to drive it. .... HOWEVER, if the right opportunity came up and someone had to move a car quickly I certainly would consider it; at the right price of course!

Your attitude is perfect, keep aware of whats for sale but bide your time till the car YOU want shows up.
Just be ready to move if it does, the good ones don't last long.
And you're right, it's torture looking at a car sitting in your garage for months.
I made that mistake on a new one and the dealer dropped the price 7K in the spring for the same car I HAD to have that sat in the garage all winter.

A lot of guys seem to think the bottom is going to fall out of the used Viper market because the new Gen 5 is introduced.
Like everybody is going to rush out and buy one.
Don't bet on it. In this economy how many guys have 100K+ to drop on a new toy.

Thanks All!

I live in Frederick, MD.

I'm in Hatfield, PA - not too far from you.

I'm considering selling my '08 Venom Red Coupe. Original Owner. 1,500 miles. Mopar PCM; Ported Lower Intake; Roe H/F Cats; Corsa Track; Woodhouse Poly Engine Mounts; 3.55 Gears.(I purchased a complete assembled Differential w/ 3.55's from Unitrax)

I still have Stock PCM, Lower Intake, Cats/Exhaust, and Differential(w/ stock 3.07 gears).

Still under Factory Warranty until 4/12.

I am considering selling my 08 ACR, no mods next spring. It's not what you consider low mileage though as I have 11k on it but only driven in the rain on the way home from the dealer when I bought it.

You will pay $5k more for the same car in the spring. Best bet is buy in the next 2 months.

Same exact thing I was thinking. Buying NOW is the time before the snow hits the ground while folks are getting ready to mothball.

All PM's replied to -- thanks everyone!

Jon -- you and I are on the same page. Thanks for the advice. Like you said, I doubt the market will drop at all when the GenV comes out. I'm more focused on capitalizing on the right opportunity of an owner or dealership who wants to move their GenIV for a GenV. (I have a set price limit that I won't go over.)

Thanks man, but I don't think I'll be going the ACR route. This will be a weekend/sunny day road toy that (if I'm being honest) will not see much track time (at least at first). I also want to maximize my dollar, and the ACR would cost more. For me and what I want to do with the car, I would rather spend a couple thousand more on the perfect combo I'm looking for than the ACR.

Who knows? I dont think the gen 5 will hurt the gen 4 value this early. For one theres a good chance the gen 5 will be well over $100k(and that may help bring the gen 4 back up a little) and another thing people may not be crazy about the design at first(like any new designed car/truck it takes most people time to adjust to it and find that love for the new design) even Im guilty of that.
I dont think the gen 5 will be actually available till late next year so not all gen4 owners will be dumping their vipers in the spring and being viperless for almost a year. IMO

That and the fact I would never buy the first year anyway.
Let them work out the kinks and let the dealer gouging subside.
All the "gotta have it" suckers will buy theirs at MSRP +markup prices.
I will NEVER pay a dealer over sticker. EVER.
Plus if there is an ACR the following year you know it's going to be an azzkicker.

Totally agree with you on this.

FWIW, my 08 that I just bought was orginally listed at $75K. After a public price reduction and some negotiation, I got them down to $65,500 last month. The guy moved the most when I told him, "You got snow on the ground next week in Minnesota and that car will sit there till Spring, and I will fly up and buy it before that happens." Talk of Gen V came up and he did not care.

Nice to meet you Bryan. I assume I'll be seeing you at 2012 VCA events, since I live in MD too. I'm also kind of in the same boat you are. I'm looking to buy a Gen III vert in January or February. Good luck with your search!

Oh, and don't talk to AbsolutHank - he's an a-hole. :lmao:

I've been dying to get an ACR recently. Might have to contact you in the spring time!!
