As all of us that love this car sit back and wait for the Gen 5, and all the changes it brings, I began to reflect on what brought me to vipers in the first place. I have always loved anything that had a motor, but while I appreciated the Gen 1s and 2s, I really didn't get the bug until I saw DPviper's 03 that he used to have and I was hooked. I found my yellow 05, absolutely was blown away by all the unique aspects of this car. Then had a chance to get my 08 violet vert, which I love. My question is for those that have owned both gen 3's and 4's and what their opinions are now on which they like better. You can scour the forums for the advantages of both, but I thought it might be interesting to hear from those that have had both. Maybe even some of the techy guys can comment.

I have to Mod so gen 3 is for me :) The gen 4 is a hell of a machine for a stock car.

i had 2 gen 3s and a gen 4. i have a gen 2 now.
to be honest, when i got the gen 4 i didnt feel like i had a new car over the gen 3, it just felt like the same car modded, hence more power.
handling and braking felt identical, same chassis, etc, just faster and most of that over 3500 or 4k rpm. the gen 4 had headers and viper ecu, was much faster than my gen 3.
that said, for some reason, i enjoy driving my gen 2 the most but it needs more power. :)

I agree with shooter. Still have both- gen3 and 4. Love my modded '04 because of the look, but all the rest points on my '09. Even without extra downforce :)

The Paxton gen 3 is the best all around driver. the power is there all the time. The gen 4 is a nicer ride for sure. I dislike the poor throttle response though.

I've had a gen2,3, and 4. I don't know if I'm in the minority or not, but if I went back to the day I sold my gen3, I wouldn't do it. I love all the vipers, but the 3 was my soul mate. I don't get that from my 4, unfortunately I didn't have a chance to dirve on before I sold my 3. One thing I do like is that it is cooler. I had exhaust, vipair hood and some thermal barrier on my 3 and it was a huge improvement and no issue on heat, but even with all that, the 4 feels cooler in hot summer, like it has no heat issues at all stock .. although I do have an exhaust on my 4 which further helps with side sill cooling.

I love my 08 VBB Vert and my 09 ACR but I sure do miss my Supercharged First Edition 06 coupe which I sold a few months ago. Probably should have kept it. In a straight line it would kick the ACR's butt but on a road course the ACR is something special.

Gen II < Gen III < Gen IV performance wise (I have owned all 3), all other items are subjective according to the owners opinion. If I had to pick only one out of those three to keep, it would be the Gen IV ACR, overall it is the best car IMO.

My Gen IV is better in every way compared to my GenIII, except for the throttle response. It's kinda like a driving a car with a carburetor.

Kept my 1998 GTS for one year and my 2004 Supercharged SRT for two years after buying my 2008 SRT just to be sure. The GEN IV is the best factory Viper to date. NO regrets and out performs all other generations. Including GEN III's with a stock Paxton system. Not as pretty as the Gen II to look at,but I'm on the inside looking out not at the car show looking in.

I actually think the heat from the sidesills are a bit of character for the car, makes it more un-tameable and beastly. But then i dont drive it in the afternoon mainly mornings and at sundown.

As mentioned above, I miss the Throttle Reponse on my '06 Coupe as it kinda ***** on the '08.

Though once moving, the '08 does leave the '06 in the dust(stock vs. stock)!:)

I currently own both a Gen3 and a Gen4. Love the power and exhaust sound of the Gen4. It's also cooler in the Gen4. Because I have a vert Gen3 and a coupe Gen4, I like to use both cars at different times. It's fun to be able to switch rides and enjoy them both--Dave
