Brakes, which is better Viper ACR or ZR1?

I love the Viper; however, I will admit the ZR1 brakes have a lot better stopping power.

Yeah, the ZR1 brakes are better. UNTIL you have to replace them!!! Put some racing pads on the Viper and the difference will be minimal.

a very long time, prolly forever on a street used car- raceing and trac-use- that depends on the driver- pretty long though i would say

Chevy states forever in street driving- replace once if tracked......
However some ZR1 owners are looking at replacement rotors after many many track
Miles and about 12000 total miles on their car.
Someone is already making iron rotors for track rats.....

The carbon brakes are better , and with all that help the ZR1 still slower than the ACR at the Green hell !!!!!!

At Barrett Jackson Chevrolet had a really cool display highlighting their carbon brakes. Once you pick a set up, you realize how amazingly light they are. They also showed all kinds of cool parts like valves and rods that come in these cars, all made from Ti. The materials used in these cars are second to none. They really are a bargain at their price point. Guys that whine about ZR-1 pricing, and how similar they are to regular Vettes are really clueless idiots. Amazing cars, we really are living the ultimate performance era.

Carbon ceramic rotors are the best, there are lightweight (5880g) 13 lbs, it will take extreme heat without warping,better stopping distance also depends on the tires, but it has it's drawbacks, you must wrap them in foam when removing the wheels because if drop the rim on the rotors it will chip or shatter,can never expose them to any chemicals and you can pay up to 15,000 for a brake job on a Z-R1 at a dealership.

After I replaced the stock pads with race pads on the ACR my brakes became super consistant and never faded. I guess that means the work well. Never having carbon ceramic brakes I cannot compare. I also have no need or desire to upgrade to them because the fatory set up (with race pads) work extremely well for my application.

I agree they do lose points in the "cool factor" category.

Someday I'll get a ZR1, until then I have to settle with awesome stopping performance without the cool factor.

As is usually the case with Carbons. Nothing lasts forever. They are great at resisting heat fade. and do last a long time, but questionable if they last long enough to justify the exorbitant pricing vs throwing several sets of some steel rotors on there.

I'll bet the ACR X brake set up with the Brembo rotors up front and larger race pads would be pretty close to the ZR1 set up for a bunch less $$$$.

I bet that if the Gen V offers Carbon Ceramic brakes that they are an extra cost option.

Few owners find fault with the stock brakes that come on recent SRT and ACR Vipers. They offer amazing street performance, and do remarkably well for most track events. For professional racing there are upgraded systems, but only at pretty extreme levels are they necessary.

A big plus for Viper is that their standard rotors are pretty cheap to replace when worn or experience extreme heat cycling. Most race teams get lots more laps out of them than the standard Vette stuff.
