Given the small size of the driveshaft it hardly seems worth the effort or cost to change. I doubt I'd notice the difference.

To me, it is all about minimizing spinning weight so I changed the drive shaft and all brake rotors. Brake rotors alone, i lost 120 pounds by
switching to StopTech, I am preparing the car to attend some mile events. I still have some safety mods to address next.

Beautiful. 4.2 lbs only and $1300 bucks. I betcha that engine will rev like a puppy.

Doubtful...the mass of a driveshaft is located very close to the axis of rotation, so any decrease in that mass will produce little effect. Carbon fiber has many benefits, including superior strength and a very high critical speed, but in an application like this where the driveshaft is so short, it really doesn't make a huge difference. They certainly look cool, and you'll likely never break it, but are these driveshafts really a weak point in these cars?

Exactly. Rotors and wheels on the other hand are definitely worth it.

Sorry about that, I meant to say 32 pounds. I was thinking overall weight changes with other mods that have been made.

Ah, that makes more sense. I was wondering how many rotors were on your car. LOL

I think the figure is each 1 lb of rotational mass reduction is equal to 8 lbs of stationary mass. so 32 lbs off the rotors= 250 lbs of weight loss-- certainly a seat of the pants difference. 2-3 tenths off in the 1/4 mile.

Another advantage of a carbon fiber drive shaft is safety. If a carbon drive shaft breaks, it disintegrates harmlessly. If a metal drive shaft breaks, it can break other things.

The factory drive shaft is hollow aluminum, there is not much weight savings at all with going to a carbon drive shaft due to the minimal length of the shaft and the extra Yoke material required for a proper bonding surface to bond the carbon to the yokes. I would be surprised if you are saving even a couple of pounds
