First, love the car.

I am ready to trade my 2000 Viper RT/10 for this awesome car.
I could never find the 2003+ models worthy for my desire.
Bill P will be getting an order from me as soon as this is ready for sale.

But, I was really wishing for the F1 Paddle style Tranny similar to the Ferrari and Lambo's.

It would have been extra sweet to have a Dual Clutch Tranny to allow for super fast shifting.

Thanks,
UZY

Hopefully, the next GEN Viper will be made by GOOGLE and just drive itself. Can't wait.

Standard shift for me. It's very sad that Ferrari, Aston Martin and very soon Porsche only offer paddle shifters. They are great for the track, but I personally love a standard manual shift. Call me old fashioned...

Your wish may become reality in the future. The new GTS-R has a paddle shifted transmission.

I
n the meantime, maybe you can talk the SRT engineers into incorporating the downshift throttle blip into a future ECM calibration.
The ALMS race car has a paddle shifted sequential as do all modern GT race cars. The gearbox itself runs north of $30,000.

Viper needs to be Manual thats what makes it what it is! And I agree with above, it took me months to find my 6-speed Ferrari, sad that only 10% or so are made in manual.

The latest generation 7 speed dual clutch automatic shifters offer significant performance enhancements for both track and street usage.

While standard transmissions give amazing feedback and help integrate the driver into the driving experience, they are much slower shifting, and cause torque interuptions at each shift, and can be quite upsetting when shifting is required in mid corner.

Dual clutch automatic systems transmit torque seamlessly when changing gears, and do not distract the driver from his driving duties under extreme driving conditions. Elimination on hundreds or thousands of shifts in competion frees the drivers right hand and left foot for other duties in the heat of battle.

Many races have been lost to a misplaced shift, or the fatigue induced by needing to time and execute each shift perfectly.

I enjoy my manual, and the feedback it provides, but when stuck in traffic, having the option of a ultra high performance automatic would be most welcome.

The car should've have options for paddle shifters.

Not everyone likes or know how to drive well standard transmissions in sports cars and if they want to attract the fiatarri and porsche customers another option for transmission should be available.

Truth is they will lose a lot of sales because there is no "auto" option which in my opinion is very important when you want to sell cars and talk about expanding market reach towards customers from other brands(you offer more important options!).

It would be interesting to see the stats of how many corvettes, lambos, ferraris and porsches were sold with the paddle shifters compared to the ones sold with the stand. transmission from 5 years to now since the viper will be "fighting" in that segment and we want the new snake to live a happy long life. :2tu:

The new car exterior and interior looks stunning IMO. I loved it!

man card revoked.

This. Come on...paddle shifters...are you freakin' kidding me! Paddle shifters are for women that don't know what the hell they're doing in a sports car.

PADDLE SHIFTERS? The more I think about it, the more my blood boils...have you ever driven a Dodge Viper? The sound of the engine, engaging the clutch, mastering shifting the gears, breaking free the rear tires on occasion...that's what a Dodge Viper is...where's Chuck when you need him...I believe the word is pussification.

They have been and did test a flappy paddle gear box for the Gen V. It was one of the Tremec's that they make for Aston. I would say we will see it eventually.

They should have it. If you are strictly concerned about getting arond the track fast then the flappy paddles will get you there. I would never own one as i HATE driving with them but just have it as an option and whatever you do dont get rid of the 6 sp like the pansy ferrari lambo cars. If i want an automatic ill buy one but give me the option.

When they offer a paddle shifter, I will buy one. If you don't like it don't buy one! Offer both, paddle as an option.

Right, while we're at it, ditch the power windows, power brakes, ABS, power steering, AC and radio. Hell I think having overhead valves are too fancy shmancy, I say go back to a flat head and side valves. While we're at it, what's the deal with this fuel injection? Scrap that pussified electronic gizmo and give us a good old carburetor, maybe two of them....hey how about a 6 pack like the 60's, yeah that's the ticket. Disc brakes....TOSS EM!!! Go back to drum brakes like a "real man".

I'm not whining about general amenities for newer cars. My problem with 'lady' shifters is that it takes away the visceral feeling of the transmission via the shift knob. I could personally care less about what's better for the track. I drive my viper on the street every day that I can and I love the excitement and adrenaline rush of running up and down the gears in this monster of a car.

Ha, ha,....this is funny...people want to feel their Viper with a manual transmission:dunno:
I assume it is because you might drive it "spirited" on a mountain road or winding road somewhere so you can push the car to its limits. The reality is, you will have to be a much better driver to get everything out of a Viper with a high performance paddle shift type trans. If your manual trans allows you to enter a corner at say 70 mph, you might now be coming into it at 75 or 80 mph with a paddle shift trans. So tell me, if your *** is getting puckered at 70 mph because you're at what you feel is the edge, do you have the skill to handle the same corner at 80 mph with the paddle shifter?

This is like telling a Formula 1 driver that they are less talented because they are not rowing the gears :lmao:

Until people get to drive these cars back to back and see how much more "connected" you are with a paddle shift type trans, it's gonna be a tough sell. Imagine driving a high performance street bike with a car type trans versus a sequential trans they have now.

The good part is Viper will probably always have a manual options for those that want it. If you want a manual, buy a manual....if you want an auto, buy the auto. If Carrol Shelby had a paddle shift option for his Cobra when racing the Euros, do you think he would have passed on it?

I know as soon as SRT comes out with an auto trans option, so does my checkbook.

Cheers,
George

Your "general amenities" were most likley looked at as you look at the current technology like paddle shifters when they were introduced. It kills me to read so many people agaist stuff that would improve the performance of the car and refer to stuff like "nannies". Well I'm sure back in the day when power steering and power brakes were introduced, there were people stuck in the past that called them nannies. I think Dana Carvey sums it up best:

I realize that. All I'm saying is sometimes things developed for race cars find their way into the street versions. Obviously not a $30,000 endurance racing gear box.

The experience of driving with a manual = 100x better than driving with paddle shifters (I have driven both A LOT). Really I am completely willing to give up that tiny bit of extra performance to have a more fun/enjoyable drive and more control of the car.

The day their are no more manuals is the day I stop considering new cars... Or start a company that makes manual transmissions for the new cars haha

As stated earlier here, paddle shift will definitely improve sales which is good for the brand. More sales = more secure Viper program future. I have bad knees after many years of long distance running. Plus, living and working in a summer tourist area with lots of traffic, my old manuals were killers on the left leg.

I'll have to admit that I haven't driven an F1 car or an original Shelby Cobra in a while...I also don't push my viper to it's limits or past it's limits. I just like to drive my viper and shift the gears like 95% + of other viper owners. I'm sure that adding paddle shifters will bring new owners to the viper experience, but I'm also pretty sure that once the economy clears up Fiat won't have any problems selling the few hundred vipers that they will be building yearly.

I don't even see where this is an argument, make it an option and leave it at that. The more options that appeal to a broader crowd, the more units per year get sold, the safer the future of continued building of this car. Bring back the old days when options were available, not option "packages". I realize that certain options will not appeal to all crowds, but to not even offer certain ones alienates potential buyers that would have never considered a Viper before.

:dunno: I get what you're saying...but where do we draw the line? Offer a 4 cylinder Viper to appeal to the economic crowd, an AWD viper to appeal to people in snowy climates, a lifted 4WD viper for rednecks? Just because it might appeal to more people doesn't mean they should do it. I love automatics...in huge luxury daily driver sedans. A sports car should have a proper manual IMO.

Hold up... have you ever driven a proper dual-clutch paddle-shifted gearbox? The word "automatic" should never be uttered in the same discussion with one. The technology is completely different as are the performance capabilities of the two. The dual-clutch trans is far superior in every single aspect and performance measurement. Same goes for comparing to to a standard manual other than the fact that you're not rowing the gears and working the clutch. For some, myself included, executing a proper heel-toe downshift is pure automotive fun. However, performance wise, the twin-clutch setup wins every actual performance comparison and it is nothing like an "automatic" in the traditional sense.
