I really hate to burst y'all's bubble, but the Viper has always been a "chick car" -- I'm one of those chicks who has been driving high performance cars since the mid 1960s. So, "chicks" do own snakes, and we can drive 'em. I don't drive fast at all -- I fly very low (I flew supersonic jets for 20 years).

Yep, it's a "chick car" all right, and this chick loves the Gen II look and updated styling of the Stryker. Awesome looks , and awesome performance. The snake still rules -- 640 hp and 600 tq, what more could a chick ever want? :drive::drive::drive:

My wife loves it, so does that make it a Chick car? Her daily driver is a black Challenger SRT-8 6-speed... No Chick car there. Although I am not sold on it yet, I wouldn't call it a Chick car.

I really think it has to be seen in person. A 2D picture does not do a car justice. When I look at my Gen 3 pictures I am not overly excited, but when I go out to the garage and look at it I get pumped. So, if my Gen 3 looks so much better in person than a 2D picture I would have to say that the Gen 5 needs to really be seen in person before full judgment can be passed.
George, I pretty much feel the same way you do. When I first saw it, it didn't really just jump out at you if you know what I mean. But, it seems the more you look at it, it kinda grows on you but there's good things & not so good things about it. I think when you see it in person is when it might Jump out at you, hope so anyway! I definitely know I wouldn't pay 120k++ for it though. jmo

It is going to have to grow on me, but I can understand the comment made about being "chick car". Would like to see what Jeff could do with street serpent modification? Alter the front first priority.

The front is the only real flaw I have with this car too. Just not fitting with the rest of the car imho. It will probably grow on me or look better with a darker color though. If anyone can rectify it Id bet Lemke could after seeing his skills on the Serpent and the Falcon.

WRONG color to use for a debut for this car. Its like red on almost any Mercedes...it just looks WRONG. When you paint the grille and paint it any other color than that garnet red, the car looks MUCH better!!! Especially the green...WOW or the Blue with the White stripes...MAN thats nice!! WOW, OK scrap what I said before (I wouldn't pay 120++ for it) Color changes everything. I think you could put that b/w on anything & it would look good. I really liked the dark grey with the lime stripe also. Guess I have a few months to start saving up! jmo (Thanks for Sharing PJ)

Interesting that they stuck with 18/19 tires, but wider . Obviously, the marriage with Pirelli is a FIAT mandated deal. Ralph briefly mentioned that in the Pirelli Corsa set up there will be two different compounds front to back. I wonder if they will fit the Gen II/IV wheels...:rolleyes:

Decision had nothing to do with Fiat, it was due to Michelin not wanting to make the tires in this size because there was not enough of a market for them.....Pirelli stepped up and made what SRT was looking for. The tires in the GTS-R on the otherhand are still Michelins, and are 18" all the way around

If you wanna be a chick driving a man's car, that's fine. None of us men mind that. In fact, we appreciate it, welcome it, and to some extent admire it. But don't go calling a Viper a chick car just because you drive it. That's bs.

I am not "hating".. I am telling my true opinion.

I am trying to like the new Viper...but I can't. Its glitzy and flashy with curvy lines and has all the right parts. But the combination of these parts make the car look like a "Chick Car". I see Paris Hilton driving one, but not me. Many of the shapes and edges they employed would look cool, but the combination and percentages are just wrong. Its just not working for me. I think in time this will be the forgotten Generation of the Viper (the AMC Gremlin of Vipers).

I bought my 2010 ACR new off the showroom floor BECAUSE I SAW IT AND HAD TO HAVE IT and I mean TODAY!!

Thats what a car is supposed to do to you. I think its still the best looking one...my GTS I had before was a close second (maybe even a tie).

But this new one is just "Girlie". They missed it on this one...its not intimidating.

Change something please and do it quick.

Have you seen the car in person? Anybody agreeing with this statement see it in person? I have seen it and many ACR's like yours and will tell you to see them both, I don't think "chick car" will come to mind. The proportions just are not well represented in photo's, but much more impressive in person. On one of the other posts, a side profile was shown of the gen2/4/5 coupes and the 5 was the most agressive of the bunch and I would argue the gen2 looked the most girly because it was very cartoonish with the headlights, taillights, and big wheel gaps. Don't get me wrong, nobody will say a gen4 ACR looks girly, but don't think anyone seeing one of these in person will either.

Just as more women are beginning to ride Harley-Davidson cycles, this new Viper could have a tremendously liberating effect on both sexes.

In the SoCal club we have lots of women who drive their Vipers. They also run them at the drag strips, and are fully competent to "keep up with the guys" on our typically enthusiastic back country runs. They are considered as equals in every way, and significantly enhance the Viper Ownership Experience.

Cindy Lutz shows the guys the fast way around the track driving with the big boys. She is at the top of her game, and nobody can claim she is not the equal of anyone else at the track.

Maybe Viper magazine needs to do an article on "The Ladies of Viper".

Thanks, Paul, for being one of the few liberated thinkers around here. I've driven high performance cars all my adult life (since the mid '60s) and absolutely love the Viper. The Viper is just as much a women's car as it might be a man's car -- it's really a car for any high performance car lovers. How about we call the Viper Magazine article "Women with Fangs"?

Here's a shot of two of my babies. Don't be fooled by the '03 350Z -- there's nothing stock about it and it has more horsepower than the Viper.

This thread did make me show the red car to my wife, who has a history of loving my car tastes, and her first response was "oh, it's pretty". ***?

I then showed her the Silver later, and she said, "oh, that's hot, wow, nice .."

I think the color is really having an impact on the intitial response/reaction & may be why it's 'growing' on people. I too at first was luke warm, then as postings with colors came out, I was hooked on tne looks. So, I guess if it's a chick car, I'm a chick with a stick.

I would really go with the color palette to explain what some few as a softer edge to the new Snake, but this has been true regardless of model. I think many thought the Venom Red was a color that did not show off the aggressive edge of the Viper , even with the Gen IVs angular shape, but once one looks at the black and darker colors on the V how can they think anything but one mean beast. In describing the new Viper I tried to posture it as elegantly aggressive as long ago as a year and a half , and the reasoning behind it was all the subtle touches that scream at me that the detail in the design was in every single flow of the body. I , and others , have to be super pleased with the unique look of the back window, the side scoops behind the driver and passenger windows, that now should funnel air to the brakes ( as opposed to the rear diff. as was the original thought ) , the snakeye exhaust port shape on each side, and the deeply contoured vents in the hood. One could go on and on, but I would politely suggest that folks who are on the fence a bit, wait till they see the car in person, as it becomes not just an dynamic , powerful machine in person, it is a piece of automotive art. The long hood,the short deck, the beast is alive and definitely not tamed, but to be subjective the color softens the animal just a bit. In black , blue, dark gray, and other combinations, be ready to see the others head for the hills as it conveys a spirit of intimidation seldom seen. We are creatures of habit and we have loved our previous Vipers like old girlfriends, so if this is a chick's car, it is just because you just found a new mistress.

Color has always been the single most important aspect of Viper resale and desire, though we often overlook it, and once in the presence of the Mistress of Gilles, once will see the passion is beyond making the Viper live on in it's unique niche, it will now live on as an object of desire for those wanting a violent beauty in a machine that is a symbol of American ingenuity. The analogy always has seemed a bit funny to me , as a ship is female and a beautiful automobile is also judged as one of the better looking persuasion, so to say it is a chick's car, Long live the Queen!!!!


Cindi Lux -- in charge of Celebrity component of the Viper Racing League and coach to Ralph Gilles ( best track instructor I have ever had and have been to 10 racing schools ). Numerous N. Pacific Champion in SCCA , T1 class.
DeAnn Rauh - largest collection of Vipers , along with her husband ( but she has more, ha) in the US.
Tammy Allen - owns the single most expensive Viper ever to go across the auction Block at Barrett-Jackson , along with it's sibling. also owns other Snakes.
Nancy Stein, Rhonda Johnson, Janni Cone, Kathy Stout, Deborah Loth, Cheryl McCally,Maryeve Dufault etc. are all adept Viper race drivers.
Mary P. may have just gotten her AARP card, but she has two Vipers with over 100K and another she is driving the wheels off of.

So the consensus is it is not a " Chick's Car," it is a rare breed of enthusiasts car IMHO!!!

As far as the car being a 'Chick's car. The only cars I can think of which fit that bill are when a manufacture makes a smaller version of a Sports car like the Mercedes SLK compared to the Man size SL

640 h.p. is plenty of power. They did good on that, the interior is nice too. Its just that exterior...uggh. But it does go to show though... different tastes. It is surprising that BLKNBLUE (someone with ACR tastes ie: aggressive, scary)...love that blue BTW, would also like the more Elegant feminine look of the new Viper. It does look less feminine in race trim...but not enough for me to buy one. They needed to upstage the ACR's and instead the ACRs still upstage them and are even more iconic than before. Park the two side by side and the ACR wins hands down. The ACR is a scary intimidating car...and the new one is a bit feminine with odd percentages. Its just a bit off to me.

Count me as another ACR owner that absolutely loves the new car. I posted my acr up next to the Gen V photoshopped in orange and it's no comparison, imo. The new car looks better. I can't wait to see what the new ACR looks like.

I think what they ended up with is a more classy, more refined, less edgy, version of a Gen 2. More of a thouroghbred than a than bull. Faster, lighter, sleeker, just not as hard to handle. I still have my heart set on a Gen 2, but that's more of an economics decision than anything else. This car is not marketed toward a buyer like me, and I couldn't purchase one even if I wanted to. All the buzz and discussion about this car pre and post release to me means SRT made a car that evokes certain feelings, which is what all the great cars have in common.

Take this for what's it's worth, as I still do not own a Viper.

No one is saying this can't be a chicks car or is a chicks car. What i believe everyone is insinuating is that, If you look at the Viper registery. 90% of it is a man owning the Viper. I am sure if a women wants to own one she can. Just like a guy can own a Miata and a Fiero or a Mercedes SLK or a solctice or sky. That being said, I wouldnt be buying any of those "chick cars". A chevelle,cuda,ZR1,ferrari,Lambo,FordGT and the like is moer my style.

They did do a survey among women on MSN and teh women voted teh Viper as a very Manly Car. Said that it looks like a stature imppression. If you know what I mean. Because of the "long" front end. Thats women or"chicks" as they called them hear saying that.
