Well, great job to SRT for building the Gen V--it allows the proud Viper to continue!

Gen II owners are no doubt quite pleased since the Gen V looks like a modern Gen II.

That said, the new Gen V is, so far, just a mild "refresh" on the existing Gen IV; marginally better in most every way (styling is subjective), but a refresh nonetheless. Same engine, same basic chasis, same basic tranny, same cockpit ergonomics, etc.

Many of us were expecting a real step up in power and technology for the Gen V--not nice leather, carbon fiber do-dads, new exterior plastics and some of the aftermarket items us Gen IV owners do anyway (ported intake manifold, exhaust, intake, aluminum or steel sill guards, gears, etc.). These changes are pretty modest to expect a Gen IV owner to pay $60K--$70k to upgrade (in states where we pay tax on the full amount). No doubt that Gen II owners and fans and non-Viper owners will come to the table.

I look forward to seeing the ACR version of the Gen V. I am on a list for the Gen V ACR so I will reserve judgment--I am hoping it looks like the Volado (or the Gen V Racecar) with 700hp, AWD and a dual clutch transmission for no more than $115k. If Dodge...oops, I mean SRT, does not build this car, someone else will.

Finally, this Gen V leaves the door open for the C7 ZRI and even C7 Z06... .

With out trying to pick the whole post a part (no changes to the tranny??) you are never going to see a Gen.V ACR with 700HP, AWD and a dual clutch transmission for no more than 115K. Better get off the list and start looking elsewhere....

I agree with smog dog, not for $115K. You should read the dealer handout and see how much is improved.

Anyone who thinks the front does NOT look like that corvette needs their head examined. I like the rest of the car and I'm aware of the HP to weight ratio. The front just doesn't cut it for me. Numbers don't lie and we will see how many they sell.

Thanks Bill for the sage advice. You are certainly entitled to your opinion on what you want to do with your money and what you think the Gen V is or should be; our opinions just differ. Not wrong, just different. Again, I am glad that the Viper lives on--this is a good thing all around. It will be interesting to see what happens with the ACR!

Anyone that thinks C6 styling wasn't strongly influenced by Gen 3 styling needs their head examined.

It seems because the C6 is the more popular car, the styling that was copied from the Gen 3 is now "Corvette styling" and any Gen3/4 styling SRT included in the Gen V is being called "Corvette styling". IMO I don't think the Gen V looks like a Vette, but only including styling cues from previous generation Vipers would lead to what the Gen 5 looks like.
