Hey guys, I know it's still early to tell, but the consensus has been, so far from talking with dealers, that launch control will only be a GTS thing. However, in the complete spec sheet I downloaded from ViperExchange, (http://www.viperexchange.com/images/2013-srt-viper-spec-sheet.pdf) it says the following on page 6: "To help maximize straight-line performance in track conditions, all SRT Viper models will include launch control as standard equipment."
If this is true, this is great! The only thing that would have been a deal breaker for me would have been no launch control on the base model. I like the hood on the base model, maybe even more than the GTS hood. I also like the fact that it's lighter. This in combination with launch control would seem to make it the faster car for thousands less. Anyone heard anything?

Edit: The Feature Availability list shows Launch Control as being standard on both. In fact, a lot of things are standard on both... 8.4" touchscreen (R3 on base, R4 on GTS), 7" Cluster with full telemetry, navigation, power windows/doors, USB port, SD media card, auxiliary input and more... all standard on both models. The only major performance difference I see is the two mode shocks and four mode vs. two mode traction control. But all that cool telemetry feedback and launch control look standard. It lists the base model as having six air extractors on the hood of the GTS, vs. two on the base. Oh, you know what the base model won't offer? Added noise dampening padding and Cup holders.

Other than more seat leather and interior options on the GTS, I really don't see where the theoretical $15k -$20k difference will be worth it. With the weight savings and cooler air exchanging hood, I really think the base model will be faster. I could always buy a set of GTS badges, no one outside of the club will know the difference :)

Launch control is for everybody.

GTS just has more luxury features and the adjustable shocks.

Base car will appeal to high performance buyers on a budget. GTS for those wanting an upscale interior.

I predict that there will be an active swapping of desired parts between owners trying to assemble their perfect Viper.

Perhaps at VOI's we can have an area for people to exchange parts.

I imagine the forum will be still filled with people saying their Viper is the best, and that the others **** : >)

Can someone post up pics of the two hoods? Would be interested to see the difference between the two. I thought there was only one hood. This new Viper really looks like a huge upgrade from the first 4 gens. Very impressed so far!

I like the base model better--don't need the high end interior--like the hood better on the base model--wonder what the price diff. will be--Dave

The 2013 SRT Viper is 77 pounds lighter than the 2013 Viper GTS. The SRT Viper with track pack is also 77 pounds lighter than the Viper GTS with track pack. The SRT Viper hood provides for more ventilation of engine heat and is available as an option on the Viper GTS. Upgraded leather seats are available as an option on the SRT Viper as is a carbon fiber appearance group and/or a better radio, etc.. Take the time to read the entire 54 page data release posted in other threads. It has a complete listing of standard equipment and options for each car and a lot of other useful data.

Those of us who have the Racelogic system installed by Woodhouse have had launch control for years. But to old f***ts like me, it seems like cheating. But with many performance cars having it, it would be silly for Viper not to have it.

Are they both carbon fiber? I saw you could get the larger-vent model on the GTS but it does not mention what they are made of (I assume they are of the same construction).

It would have to be carbon fiber or else the hood would have made the base model heavier.
