Why the **** does everyone keep calling this a supercar? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills. Next thing I know the CLS mercedes will be a sports car and the Ram 1500 will be an 18 wheeler. What kind of world will it be for our children when we can call anything whatever the hell we like without it being even remotely related to its real identity?

I will call it a supercar because my definition may differ from yours. This car will do sub 3.5 second 0-60, will be able to out handle any production car on the road, go over 200 mph and looks very exotic. I don't know what you consider a super car, but I would consider the GEN V worth calling super. The world my children will live in will have to figure out how to survive because people like me call it a supercar.

I would not call it a sports car which as all of you know is a 2 seat 2 door open top vehicle. Obviously its a GT. GTS Bruce

To Myself and probably and a lot of members here, The Viper has always been a Super Car from 1992 on. I always wanted one and have been lucky enough to own all four generations. Like I said , They are all Super cars.

Of course it's a supercar. The performance numbers are going to be stellar and on par with the best the world has to offer, like others have said. What does it need in order for you to call it such? A 300k price tag? Clown.

Record holder at the ring, LeMans ********** for three years, 24 hours Daytona ********** beating the best of Porsche and Ferrari, small yearly production numbers - less than the Gallardo or 458... The first Gen could smoke a Diablo, the Second Gen could smoke a 360, the Third Gen could smoke a Gallardo, the fourth Gen could smoke a Mercielago, and the fifth Gen will smoke an Aventador... Now world class interior going forward...

What the heck is YOUR definition of a Supercar? If SRT put a $200k price tag on the car, now would it meet you criteria of a supercar? Get off your crazy pills. :)

Ferrari F12
4.70
SRT Vper

Stole this from Wikipedia. Although i agree it is a Supercar, This definition also puts a price on that criteria.

Supercar is a term used most often to describe an expensive high end car. It has been defined specifically as "a very expensive, fast or powerful car".[1] Stated in more general terms: "it must be very fast, with sporting handling to match", "it should be sleek and eye-catching" and its price should be "one in a rarefied atmosphere of its own".[2]

However, the proper application of the term is subjective and disputed, especially among enthusiasts. So-called vehicles are typically out of the ordinary and are marketed by automakers to be perceived by the public as unusual. The supercar can take many forms including limited production specials from an "elite" automaker, standard looking cars made by mainstream companies that hide massive power and performance, as well as models that appeal to "******** enthusiasts" from "manufacturers on the fringe of the car industry

I think the very very low production numbers for each year makes up for the cost differential. Also, the car is completely 100% hand built. It certainly qualifies as "Exotic". While I personally might not use the term "Supercar"; I'm certainly not going to take issue with any who do. :) :2tu:

Since Wikipedia is the foremost expert on all things defined... I'll go change it real quick to add Viper in there as an exception. :D

This is NOT a Supercar by anyone's definition. I guess if it makes you fell better to say it than.."feel good"!

Re: The all-new 2013 SRT Viper: redefining the American Supercar... From Dupont Regis

I would really like to know what the Viper is missing to be a "super car?" Is it the $300k plus price tag? Is it the European manufacturing? Because those are the only things I could see it missing to meet the definition. The car has exotic styling, now has world class interior with premium materials (although previous generations interior was better than some cars that "are" classified as super cars), performance that is virtually unmatched, and low volume hand built construction with exotic materials (aluminum doors, carbon fiber body panels, magnesium structural components). So for those that keep saying the Viper isn't a super car I would really like to know what it is missing, because it seems to have all of the components of one to me.

Re: The all-new 2013 SRT Viper: redefining the American Supercar... From Dupont Regis

Wow. A thread arguing about if the Viper of any generation is a supercar, sportscar. lol. I'd see more value in a "discussion" about its merits as an exotic.

Anything with "super" in front of it merely means its superlative to the norm. Example: Superman. Hes more super than a regular man. Superhero. More super than a regular hero etc. I can go on and on. :D To over think the term "supercar" is an excercise in futility imho.

Is the Viper more super than a normal car? Even a normal sportscar???Yes it is. Its destroyed everything from entry level sportscars like a Nissan 350z all the way to mega dollar super/hyper/exotic cars like the Bugatti Veyron, Enzo, CCX etc on circuit tracks. It looks extraordinary unlike anything else on the road [well at least the Gen I & II from all angles].

Everything about a Vipers performance and presence is superlative to an ordinary car and even a good bit of the extraordinary cars. So how could a car that looks like the Viper, costs more than an ordinary sportscar/performance car, looks exotic[not the norm], outperforms hyperexotics/mega dollar supercars and now has world class fit and finish and interior, NOT be a Supercar???????

It's an exotic super car.

It may not be $300k or a $1 million but at a $100k the car is not even a remote consideration for the 99%+ of the population. I will also say that at the NYIAS the Viper had more people mesmerized than even the Veyron.

Re: The all-new 2013 SRT Viper: redefining the American Supercar... From Dupont Regis

Looks like most people hang the better lable sign thinking something is better just becaused it cost more...so if the aventador is a super car and the gen 5 is NOT! And let's say for argument sake the cars have equal performance numbers, the aventador is a supercar and the viper is just a sports car based on what? The price?"...vanity is a beautiful thing. People have ask me how much my viper cost, and when I tell them they ask me why is the lamborghini so much more if the the viper out performs it? I tell them vanity! I collect rolex watches but know well that a timex keeps better time. Remember it's all about vanity with most people. so if someone tells me the viper is not a super car, I ask them to give me a super car definition. And when they realize that the viper needs to be placed in that category based on performace. they throw in the" well it cost three times more for a reason" yeah then I say, the reason is vanity!!!

Wow, just stumbled onto this thread.

Amazing how we have so many well educated care enthusiasts, and some really lame ones.

I'd love to sit down at a bar and have some beers & have someone explain to me how a 'ring holder isn't a supercar.

And believe I couldn't careless either way, to me it's just a blast. But this is just people trying to argue for arguing sake and looking pretty silly in the process. Geesh, next thread please, and only those with more pics of the gen5. lol

And with the right amount of aftermarket support, the Viper supercar can approach hypercar territory!

I have to laugh here:lmao: Nobody seems to have a problem calling the Nissan GT-R a super car and the damn thing is looks like a 3.8 V6 Turbo Altima with AWD:rolleyes:
