Hi Guys,

I write to you from Christchurch, New Zealand and I've recently purchased my dream car from Illinois. The 1994 RT10 Dodge Viper is currently in a container to New Zealand and I cannot wait to see it.
However, I have one problem.

To road register the car here under Left Hand Drive regulations I need to provide evidence from the manufacturer they did not make the vehicle in Right Hand Drive.

I know there is only one steering column (Which is LHD) and its part number is 4642805. Does anybody have an owners manual or parts diagram which shows this?

If anybody can help it would be greatly appreciated. The thought of owning a Viper and not being able to drive it when it arrives is not very appealing!!
There are several other Vipers in NZ, so I know they can be road registered here.

Cheers,

Bevan

Hi Eucharistos, thanks for the reply. I really hope somebody within the forum can help me with the information I need. I'll be sure to post comment once I get the car and have taken it for a drive! I've wanted one since I was 13 and have only ever seen 1 Viper in the flesh before, but since I decided to buy the car in Illinois I think I've looked at photos of every first gen Viper ever made!

Outstanding, thanks a lot! Do you have anything else I can provide which clearly states its Lhd? Remembering I'm dealing with a government department which probably knows nothing about cars. Its a great start and very much appreciated. Thanks viper parts! Il be buying my parts off you!

We will see if we can't get you a note on company (SRT/Chrysler) letterhead that states that the car was never produced as right hand drive. Send us a private message with your email address and we will see if we can get it to you right away. Always happy to help, and welcome to Viper ownership!

Sorry, thanks CEJ I found that website as well, but the land transport authority need something more official. I've contacted the company in Australia who does the rhd conversions but they never answer their phones, nor have returned my emails.

Once again, thanks for all of your help and if anyone else has ideas il welcome them!

Viper parts, you are awesome! il message you now! Thanks for your help, that is exactly what I need! My car will be here in 20 days and it takes 20 days to get the permit. I can prove everything else required for permit bar the Lhd note.

I cannot say how much appreciate it. I've tried all avenues and come up short. If you can get me that note from srt/dodge i can then road register my car when it arrives. When I purchased the viper a month ago I thought all this would be easy but it's been rather stressful to date! Thanks a lot.

Hi Intense5.5, thanks alot mate. I have made sure of it, I just need it down on paper before the car can be road registered here in NZ. Without having purchased the car, you cannot apply for the permit. Its a viscious circle. Ohh I know, I cannot wait to drive it!!! Viper parts of America is sorting me out with the note on the dodge/SRt letterhead. I look forward to sharing my photos and thoughts when it arrives. I've had 5 different Mitsubishi Lancer Evolutions prior to purchasing the Viper, so its going to be a big change!

Nzviper: Congrats on your purchase! I used to have an Evo 9 (fun) and have a few buds from New Zealand too. I wanna actually visit sometime soon cause I'm an outdoor person and heard they got great sights there.

Hello, We had a UK member Immigrate to New Zealand a few years back, they took their Blue and white Viper GTS with them :)
Tom is now back in the UK and the car also came back to the UK. He should be able to tell you exactly how he got the car through the various laws.

If you go onto the UK Pistonheads website www.pistonheads.com His user name is 'VIPERLESS' Drop him a PM and you may get the info you need :)
