I recently bought a '96 B/W GTS and it came with one key. The key I have is a generic key without the sneaky pete logo and I don't know what the keys that came with the car from the factory look like. I searched the forum best I could and looked online but couldn't find an answer.

I found two styles of keys that might be a factory key. One key appears to be black with either a black or very dark blue sneaky pete and the other is grey with a black sneaky pete. Which one would be the correct factory key for this year GTS?

I also see there are special edition keys available that are grey with either a blue or red sneaky pete. What's the significance of these? Did they come with limited edition Vipers? Or are they just cool if you want the key to match the color of your Viper? I'm considering that option too.

Thanks!

Brent

I don't have the answer to your question, but here is a picture of 1 of the 2 sets of keys/fobs that came with my 2001 RT/10...

Fob, ignition key and rear window key...the ignition key is grey with a black Sneaky Pete...

The sneaky pete key will break eventually on you (mine just broke a couple weks ago) and they are expensive. Buy a Gen 3 key and have it cut for your car.

Thank You very much the help guys! I know what I need to get now! The key fob I have is the same one LifeIsGood has. I didn't realize I had a newer key fob and I'm going to try to find a couple older fobs if I can. I haven't found any that style yet.

My old Fob stopped working, besides the quality ***** and it looks terrible. I purchased 2 newer ones and have never had any issues. I also purchased 2 ignition keys that are grey with a blue sneaky pete on them, they also have never broke. They can be had on ebay for $25 a piece.

I have seen the ignition keys come in grey with either a black Sneaky Pete as shown in the previous pictures above, and also ignition keys with a red or blue Sneaky Pete.

The blue looks great! :2tu:

i tried it the gen 3 key doesn't really work. The rubber on the head of the key kinda doesnt fit inthe ignition surround ya gotta force it in. . . then it got stuck lol

Another question. The black key with the pentastar logo, what logo is on the other side of the key? Is it the Dodge Ram logo on the other side?

I've done some more research and talked with Chuck Tator, (Thank You Chuck!) and here's what I found. From the factory, '96 GTS's came with a pair of key fobs (more angled edges) like the ones in RevHeat's picture, both with very dark grey and black head "sneaky pete" keys. From what I understand the light grey keys in black, blue and red "sneaky petes" are aftermarket. The keys with the pentastar logos did not come from the factory new. All are fine, they all look great, I'm just trying to determine what came with our cars.

Also, '96 GTS's used the same ignition key to open the rear hatch. The metal key with the embossed "sneaky pete" I believe came with RT/10's, maybe only certain years, to unlock the rear window.
