New Speeding Ticket Record

Yesterday on a New York State expressway a 28 year old man was clocked by radar at 193 MPH in the rain! The officer that clocked him was not the one that stopped him. He said that he was on the way to the hospital to visit a friend. I figure he was going to get there one way or another. I think this may be a world record if motorcycles count.OK gen 4 owners we have a new challenge. Just say no! Source Florida Today Newspaper.

It was on a motorcycle. I do not know what kind. Not many will do 193 stock.

Coming from a fellow bike rider myself; that guy was probably riding one of two bikes. He was either riding a Suzuki Hayabusa or a Ninja ZX-14 both of these Japanese bikes can do around 185mph stock...I'm impressed at the skill level it would take someone to ride that fast in the rain, but that still doesn't change the fact that it's stupid. Anyone riding that fast in the rain is asking for a death wish.

The Suzuki GSXR-1000 won't reach speeds of 190 plus. Top speed for that bike Is around 175. The only way you can get that bike to go that fast is if you put some serious work into the engine ( exhaust, power commander...etc )

Not even close. Need to come to Texas and hit I-10 out west of San Antonio.

The Koenigsegg CC is attributed with being awarded the fastest ever speeding ticket, 242mph in Texas, USA, during the Gumball 3000 rally race of 2003. The driver even talks his way out of a ticket! It could just be the movie magic since getting a 242 mph ticket is not something that Koenigsegg advertises on its website, but if you and I believe it then that's all that matters.

Having done a fair amount of pro motorcycle roadracing in the rain, I am at a loss for words why this rider did no go down. ALL U.S spec motorcycles are manufacturer voluntary limited to 186 MPH since 2001. To get around it takes an " off-road, for racing only " replacement computer, not the plug in $30 diodes on eBay. So the rider has the knowledge to get the bike going fast but I am assuming the tires were DOT tread pattern, even Soft DOT "race" tires are slick as oil in the rain and are not recommended for any serious wet speed/competition. Wet tires come in full and semi wet for different conditions but once the moisture is going away they over heat and are dangerous. Race wets are so good you can drag your knee in the rain! This rider is lucky, very lucky the only thing he got was a ticket.

Those bikes you mention are limited to 300 kph (186 mph) by the manufacturers, they will go faster than that with the limiter removed. I've personally done 175 mph on a stock ZX-11 almost twenty years ago (NOT in the rain, no traffic, straight road, no bumps), and it was still pulling hard at that speed. Yes I was young and stupid...

No way! A few years ago a kid riding an RC51 was written for going 205. It was all over youtube. The radar was way off as is the case here. Fast yes, 193, no chance in hell not to mention the rain. I would say it is impossible. The bike would need to be seriously modified and you would have to running on dedicated rain race tires. The plausible explanation is the radar was way off. He obviously was going very fast but that is not something to be impressed by. It was a poor decision that luckily didn't end up with his bike becoming an unguided 500lbs missile. Any ***** can ride a bike in a straight line fast. No special skills involved. You see these idiots show up all the time for a track day and are super slow and/or *** their bikes up instead of taking advice and learning how to HANDLE their bikes. This I am sure is the same guy riding wheelies in 5 o'clock traffic not realizing they are putting everybody around them in danger. Sorry for the rant. Not a fan of squids!

on a dry smooth road,you dont even feel like your doing that kind of speed- its fun,its smooth,its hard to let off the gas, but not smart to do in my older age. no way ever again,too many things can go wrong

Question. How could someone on a bike take the impact of rain going through it at that speed? Wouldn't it feel like being hit small stones or something similar? The story does not sound plausible. I think the poster above who suggests radar gun malfunction must be correct.

I had a hopped up zx12. Very fast. To get rid of the speed limiter is simple. You buy a Yellow Box. It changes the signal to the computer and tells it youre going slower. I had one and it works. Very simple. As far as bikes that can get over 200 mph. There are tons. thousands of guys throw turbos on them and get them well over 300 hp. A Gixxer 1000 will go well over 200 mph with a turbo. So will an R1 etc. The guy doing this in the rain is crazy for sure but i dont doubt for 1 second that he was on a bike capable of that speed. As far as the rain pellets hitting you he wouldnt feel a thing with leathers on and tucked in behind the fairings. Also. If you havent ridden one of these bikes at top speed its impossible to understand but they are so stable and smooth its not funny. I was way more comfortable at high speed on my zx12 than either one of my Vipers. They dont move around at all and dont get floaty.

He may not have had the brains but it dose requre skill to ride that fast in the rain! It also takes a lot of B---- I bet he's got a very large pair too

I can relate to his situation. I had to lower the water level in my toilet just to keep them from getting wet! The newspaper article quoted "in the rain" which was probably light rain and roads may have been only damp. Newspapers love drama.

I believe it was a 1000cc bike that had some mods done to it... I cant remember tho, there was another kid the week before who also got caught on the Thruway going 166mph. His reponse to the trooper "I could have gone faster"

Both incidents are relatively close to my house.

It's a Suzuki according to this article. Probably a Hayabusa. As to high speed riding in the rain, my lawyer has advised me not to comment. :smirk:

I had an 04 Busa and they are very fast. I have no doubt if it was a Busa, that it would do 193. Bone stock, mine had an electronic limiter that held it to 186.
