I think I just saw (on the text at the bottom of the screen) that a 2001 Viper went for $27K on Barrett Jackson. Did anyone see what happened....did it have dolphins on it or something?

$29,700 Actually! They went to commercial for me when the Viper came on the auction block, so I did not see it.
Barrett Jackson is a good place to buy Vipers....not so good to sell!!!
It seems vipers get no respect here....http://www.barrett-jackson.com/application/onlinesubmission/lotdetails.aspx?ln=354&aid=464
Interesting that the first 2013 Viper VIN # 1 sold for charity for $300,000!
The older Mopars late 60's early 70's sell for good money, I guess the Vipers are not old enough yet. :dunno:

You add all those accessories and paint scheme to an older Mopar 60's early 70's and you'll get nothing for it as well. I love a custom car, but, when it is tastefully done. That one is not my taste anyway.

Thanks for the link....that one did have a bunch of polarizing mods....love 'em or hate 'em. Probably no lovers in last night's B-J tent.

Purple stripes and all that bling. 29700 may have been way too much. They seldom give out the mileage at BJ and Mecum for some reason.

Not sure about the car, but believe it may have been a member's car and it is very sharp , but I think the guy actually drove the car. Would be interesting to find out , but it may have had over 100K for miles. Overall , those that watched noticed almost everything went relatively low -- quite a difference in my mind from BJ in Arizona this year.

It seems that some cars go for way lower then they should ..... just depends on the buying audience. I would also tend to say that at these auctions stock tends to beat out mods and the car really needs to be immaculate. The big problem with the auction items is you only get 1 audience, the internet sites let you have the car get thousands of hits, not sure how many show up at auction and want a viper in x color with y mods.

Barret Jackson Auction was indirectly responsible for me getting a Viper. I was watching and saw a Viper sell for around 27K. At that point I said I'm going to look around on the internet to see what's out there. Started searching and after about two weeks found one. at a reasonable price. There were alot that the carfax came back not good, but finally found a 96 RT/10 White w/Blue stripes (thats what I wanted) at a good price. There are Vipers out there that are very affordable in good shape. Just gotta look. I have wanted a Viper since 1993.

Started looking about 3 months ago. Just used all search engines. I found the one I bought on a site called Oodles Marketplace. There were 8 or 9 that I was interested in. Called the owners, ran carfaxes. These were all over the country. I ended up finding one in Ohio. Owner had his service records and the previous owners records. He also took alot of detailed pics. Just ask alot of questions. I will say most I called on in the 27K-32K range had carfax issues. Frame damage, etc. The one I found was clean but did have 42K miles on it. I actually prefer a driven car, most people that have them tend to mantain them. Also ask about the tires, old is bad, worn out is bad. A set of tires can set you back $1200-$1600.

Good Luck in your search, hope you find the one you want. I did.

Another place to look for a Viper is the nearest VCA regional club. There are 38 from Japan to Germany-

Put the word out for what you are looking for, meet the owner in person and inspect the car, no shipping, and get the skinny on the background details.

Former members car. That is one Viper that was not tastefully modded. Must have been one of those "eccentric" kind of guys.

Nope you saw it right. Yellow car 24,000 miles I think sold for $27,000. Looked good and went cheap.

The only 2001 yellow car I can find on ebay right now ... was sold at BJ for 29,700 with 86,669 miles. If there was another 2001 that sold for $27,000 with 24,000 miles ... I missed it. Now... that would have been a deal.

Even if that car had over 100K miles, $29700 (Buyers commision included) was a steal. A lot of the crap can be taken off and you get some expensive upgrades on a 2001 ACR. Great deal for the buyer.
