For those pro-oppressive "don't have a problem with it" pro-government pro-mandate folks. Enjoy your big cube Vipers while you can. Very soon the price will be out of reach for many of you and if the Viper is produced much past 2020 it will only be an embarrassing shell of the icon it has become.

What does this have to do with TC you ask? If you don't see the point you shouldn't reproduce.

This is another example of everything the government touches turning to crap.

There's no question they want to dictate what kind of fuel we use, the cars we drive, the food we eat, the list goes on and on. If you dare think differently from them, they will attack, discredit and ultimately punish you. It's the height of self righteousness and arrogance.

Soon we will not be allowed to wipe out own a**es with government intervention. TC is just the beginning.

Not gonna happen. Some manufacturers have been paying penalties for years. Total cost mark up for a vehicle when Cafe is not attained is between 100 and 200 bucks. Those manufacturers still produce v8's to v12's.

If everyone has to pay it because technology cannot achieve the standard, then it is just a tax. Don't lose sleep over it.

What a crappy deal.

That NYC idiot Bloomberg passed a law that only the left hand can be used to wipe one's *** because people greet each other with their right hand. He is raising taxes to employ "pooper police" to enforce it. At the same time Panasonic is developing "Toitee cam" for law enforcement and will be strategically positioned as not to violate anyone's privacy yet still accurately record which hand was used. Once tested Panasonic will lobby (another word for: give money to both parties) government to pass a mandate that virtually all toilets sold or built in the US must be equipped with Toiteecam. Toilets will become a bit more expensive, the Pooper Police will then be rolled over into some other government position, taxes will continue to increase.

Butt getting back to the government forced exstinktion of big cube motors...

And those manufacturers are...? Ford? GM? Chrysler? Or are they Ferrari, Bugatti and Lamborghini?

And is the $100-$200 for every car in the fleet or just the model? The gas guzzler tax applies to the model but the manufacturer's penalty...and I admit I may be wrong, but I read where it applied to the fleet.

I'll lose sleep over it because I lost sleep over the same thing in the 70s. And what followed the 70s was the most pathetic decade in automotive history.

Did anybody read "Atlas Shrugged"?

The sad picture of a tyranical government, staffed by ignorant, greedy idiots seemed like a distant prophecy when I first read the book. But every day, it seems to be closer to reality.

I believe BMW and Mercedes have paid it on their entire fleet for many years. Spread out, it is 200 bucks a car. For some cars, that is 3 tanks of gas. Again, people take their car here out to the track and get 4 mph and blow that in an afternoon.

Government intervention, in general, is not a good thing.

On the lighter note, I guess we can just blame Florida, because it is easier. They divide their Senators among the parties instead of chosing a stance and sticking to it.

It is just easier to complain about it, throw your hands up in the air, claim you can do nothing about it, and become an older person living on the coast in a retirement community.

Chysler/Dodge sold about 200,000 minivans last year. If $200 made the difference between buying a Dodge Caravan or a Honda Odyssey to just 2% of minivan buyers then that is $800,000 in sales Dodge missed out on due to exceeding CAFE regulations. 800K is a small percentage in revenue but a big number to anyone in a competive market. Anyone who doesn't think so should go ask their boss for an 800K bonus to find out just how much 800K means to a CEO.

Amazingly accurate prophecy. Second highest selling book behind the bible, and should be required reading in our public schools.

The real scary part is that CAFE jumps to 55.5 MPG by 2025. Half our population will need to be riding bikes like the Chinese Communists in order to make that number.
I vote for the half that doesn't pay any Federal income tax:lmao:

Don't the cafe figures reflect an average of all cars produced. For example, 75% of the cars produced could average x, while the remaining 25% could average y, thereby giving you the average required by law. The viper itself doesn't have to achieve the cafe cafe numbers but the rest of the Chrysler cars must compensate for the viper. Then of course as individual owners, we're punished via the gas guzzler tax.

Why that's discrimination... what about the left-amputees?

..and that just about sums it up!! But you know that another law will come to pass that addresses this particular instance; and then we'll have one law heaped on another, on another.....and in the case of a small business, by the time you've read through all of the rules and regulations you've run out of time and money. Keep in mind these laws don't supersede the previous, they are cumulative.

That seems like a big time problem for Chrysler in particular. SRT, Jeep, and Ram will either be killed or significantly gutted. Jeeps and Rams were previously exempt from CAFE, now to include them at a much higher fuel economy will devastate Chryslers fleet fuel economy. The only hope is to get a bunch of those electric cars in their fleet that get like 100mpge.
Good time to be in the used car market

On CNBC.com today:

Fuel efficiency of U.S. cars and light trucks will nearly double by 2025 under a standard finalized by the Obama Administration on Tuesday. American vehicles will get 54.5 miles to the gallon in the new standard that aims to save consumers at the fuel pump and cut dependency on foreign oil imports.

The rule, strongly opposed by Republicans and some car makers, builds on the standard for vehicles for model years 2011-2016, which requires automakers to raise average fuel efficiency to 35.5 mpg

Ah-h-h, I know the Gen V board has been rather boring lately (due mostly to the lack of info from SRT)...but what is this thread doing here?

LoL! A traction control hate thread tied to govt controls for non-renewable energy use in the Gen5 forum, oh c'mon, you don't get it?! Things have definitely been slow in Viperdom, but yea it seems that Fox News is now moderating this forum. LoL'ed again. Eh, I'm going driving. Peace.

Some things have value Chuck, the FMVSS roof crush requirement is going up to 4 times the vehicle mass, if they keep that up, you won't need a roll bar..

Yet you may not like this other news announced recently eh'... (and I don't):

"The rules mean that all new vehicles would have to get an average of 54.5 miles per gallon in 13 years"

http://www.sfgate.com/news/article/...ble-fuel-efficiency-3821201.php#ixzz24rh5Pr8B

So how much value does a roof crush requirement of 4 times vehicle mass have? Is there an epidemic of meteors crashing down on unsuspecting drivers? Why settle at 4 times the mass? Why not 5 times or 6 times? Did the NHTSA do a study and come to the conclusion that a roof capable of withstanding 4 times the vehicle mass will save everybody?
