A good friend of mine went for a ride with me in my GTS a couple of weekends ago for the first time. I took him through a few launches and roll outs and he was grinning from ear to ear. He texted me a few days later and said that my car gave him a *****:dunno: Then he calls me again tonight and tells me that he just bought this :dunno:

It's a 2010 with 2,300 miles and the salesman said it's a Grand Sport.

I guess a ***** to him is different than it is to you or me! Something must have really turned Sour for him to buy that after you giving him a ride in your GTS! To bad you didn't have an RT/10 for him to ride in, that would have SOLD Him! Lol!

Please tell me you freaked out on him when he told you that was a Grand Sport with a swift correction of: That's a ZR-1!!!

He's a great guy and he was so excited and I didn't want to rain on his parade. I told him that it didn't look like a Grand sport but I just congratulated him and wished him good luck. He said he left a $500 deposit and was going back with cash to pick it up today. Maybe I should call him:dunno: He's got a great Harley and a 41' Viking but he's not a car guy so I don't know if he would appreciate my explanation about the difference between my car and what he bought:dunno:

Don't give him the comparison, tell him the dealer lied to him and let him know what he's getting really isn't it. I'd rather be a good friend. If he's not that into cars let him know!--RS

I just texted him and let him know that I had a few people look at the picture to confirm my suspicions. There is a huge difference in the appearance of a base model and the GS so he needs to know what he is getting.

GS has widebody quarter panels and fenders, just like the Z06 and ZR1 width. Base coupes are booooring.

GS also has drilled rotors, some aero crap, special edition GS wheels, hood scoop like the Z06, rear brake cooling duct on the side, and the tell tale twin stripes on the front fender that look like the Dodge emblem.

So a Grand Sport is basically a 427 car with the base car motor. I think there's like 18 different Corvette models now:dunno:

Grand Sport is a base coupe with cosmetic upgrades mentioned. Wider body, wider wheels. The manual GS coupes also got dry sump oiling systems like the Z06 has, so they'd be the only one I'd consider. GS has a steel frame, Z06 has an aluminum frame.

It is not a 427. It is similar what used to be a base car with a Z51 pkg but with the look of a Z06 and a few more adders. It should have a 6.2L LS3 w/436 hp. I had an 08 w/ the Z51 pkg between Vipers. It was a strong runner and felt as strong a both GTS's I had. Makes a good DD when you don't want to get the Viper out.

In front of a corvette..
if he has a 41 viking he can afford a viper, tell him that unlike corvettes a viper is a viper, no fender changes or different engines here, and always with a 6 speed :D

It is funny to me how much Viper guys know in detail the variations of Corvettes, Because I don't think that Corvette guys know that much about Vipers. Also funny that Viper guys will have a Corvette for a daily driver, but Corvette guys don't have a Viper at all. .....they just have no idea.

Probably has something to do with the fact that there are Corvettes of all types around every corner...when you see them all the time, it's kinda hard to not notice and pick up on the subtle differences.

I'm still waiting to hear if he got the car... He loves my Viper and probably would have bought one for himself but he's built like a nose tackle at 6'5" and high 3's and he said the Vette just fits him better...

The cheapest I see on his website is $39,737.00 for GM employees that are current Vette owners. While the price is still nice, you would have to already be turned to the darkside to get it at that price. I live only 20 minutes away, I should take a look.

Another Viper owner told me Vettes are great starter kits for Vipers when I was looking back then. But Vettes are more forgiving comfort-wise for bigger people. Vettes have more foot room, shoulder room, and flatter seats with more adjustability (although less support for hard driving).

Vettes all over like Hondas? A tiresome point that isn't true. It's just that are so few Vipers which is unfortunate to me.
