Keith, Cerveza v10 updated one of this older posts with the A/F ratio. I am not certain that the fuel map is still unchanged. On a purely MAP based system, the "fuel map" would not have changed when referencing atmospheric pressure as seen during a WOT pull. If this was truly the case, this car would be running way lean. However, I understand that you Gen IV folks have a combined MAP/MAF system. While I have never seen the MAF sensor on a Viper, Dan Lesser has posted some info regarding this Gen IV's MAF sensor.

Apparently, the PCM is still able to meter the increased air flow and provide a suitable fuel flow to meet the demand.. Cerveza 10's is proving that the PCM is effectively "adapting/tuning" real-time and still maintaining a safe A/F ratio. This adaptive behavior is not present in my Gen III. After heads/cam install, I took it around the block on the OEM tune. At WOT, I would immediately start leaning out on anything past 3000 rpm. In other words, my Gen III PCM was not adapting to the increased air flow (as expected). On the other hand, the Gen IV's appear to do this seamlessly. :dunno:

I am just a tree shade mechanic making meager inferences. Perhaps some of our experts can weigh in on the subject matter.

Thanks Andres, I missed that.

Very interesting about the Gen IV ECM. Makes sense. I've been dealing with speed density so long I keep thinking of WOT fueling in terms of a fixed MAP/RPM fuel map.

There is obviously a lot of extra capacity in the fuel system. However, I wonder at what hp level/air flow the ECM says that's enough and goes into engine protect mode. Given how sensitive they are, I never would have expected you could get away with 630+ hp at the wheels. Good stuff though.

I have Greg G heads as well and my car dyno'd at 648 RWHP and I could'nt break 11.3, I must be a really rusty driver! So much for growing old!

Ok, I swore I had an 11.3 slip, but here is my 11.4 slip. A far cry from 10.566!

get that 60' down to a 1.8 and you will probably be in the 10's easily. What tire were you on?

Nitto Invo's, (my everyday tires) but I wasnt about to heat them up as I should have. Too costly to replace! I just need more track time and a tire that I can heat up without worrying about cost! After I hit $500 million on the powerball tonight it wont be an issue, lol

Nice runs. Nice to see a track that lets you run below 11.5 without a roll bar. If you decide to continue with this type of racing (addicting for sure) I recommend some suspension and diff upgrades. This is the weakest link and eventually you WILL break something in that area. I run my Gen3 stocker at 11.55 121 mph but have broken more than once. If you race you break. Deven at Unitrax has a few solutions but I still broke an output shaft and in turn broke the half shafts more than once. It's a sick feeling. I am saving up some money for a Penske shock setup so I plant better. I am not allowed to go under 11.5 NHRA rules require many additional things which I am not about to install on my car. It's a fine line here to go fast yet not to fast. Sure glad to hear your car is that fast. Love 10 second machines.

Those are some very healthy numbers despite the rich A/F. Its a shame that there is no tuning capability. The only way to fix that A/F is go old school, and simply lower fuel pressure by couple of psi in order to raise the A/F ratio.

Works great..! I can adjust the AF by adjusting the pressure. It does require a few mods to do this. I changed the fuel pump and slightly modified the drop in hanger too.

As you can see, I cut an inspection panel to get easy access to the pressure regulator.

It's a shame that we have to do things the hard way to get around the lack of tuning control......
*John Reed has a Motec system for the Gen 4....$$$$
The new AEM looks promising too...

There are a few other things being done to deal with this issue... I am anxiously watching the ongoing testing of adding compression and spinning these gen. 4 engines
to 7500-8000 RPMs with a J-tec controller. I promised not to give out the preliminary numbers but let me just say.....WOW !!!!!

I will be anxious to see how these "new" engines perform......

:eater:

Nice work Cerveza V10, Viperless and Viper 450......:2tu:

A 9 sec NA IV would be so sick.. Wonder how much the stock TB's and/or airbox are holding back at this power level.

Get a data logger on there and check MAP pressure against Atmospheric or at Key on.
If at WOT you run a vacuum then there is your answer. You need less intake restriction. A data logger will help. Generic OBDII may do the trick.
