Ok, just looking at it I'm confused. Can sombody explain to me how it holds 6,000 lbs, doesn't tilt in on itself and is portable - meaning NOT bolted down? What am I missing?

It just looks like it would collapse in on itself with that small footprint. I'm impressed.

Yes, they do need to be bolted to the floor.

Flush Mount Anchor Bolts
Flush-mount anchors are installed in your concrete floor and remain there permanently. The columns are bolted to the floor using 5/8" anchor bolts that thread into the flush-mount anchors.

I thought about buying one but haven't had the chance to. They bolt and unbolt from the floor

Ahh, thanks for that. I thought I was going mad.
I guess "portable" as long as you prep for it. :smirk:
So just lifting it up in the driveway on a sunny day is out. That's where my mind was going. It would be nice to hose the underside of the car off in the drive... guess I might conside a 4 poster with the wheels then.

well this looks good and all, you can buy a good 4 corner post for the same price. Dont get me wrong, different type of lift but why not go with the 4 corner and have storage lift as well?

I think that the point is having a lift that makes it simple to change wheels, work on brakes, and used in a garage that doesn't have the height to accommodate allow elevated storage. You can do those things with a 4 post lift; but you either need to lift the car on the lift, or you need to also have some fairly tall jack stands, and mess with them.

Yeah I figured they had to bolt to the floor unless they used some kind of new magic that defies physics! I think it is nice to have the space in the garage when not in use. I'm gonna buy it soon unless I find something else better

Actually the "hobby lifts" 4 post lifts are portable - you can roll them around. Most come with a panel that goes between the rails and a small bottle jack can pick the car up to work on wheels. Not what I would choose but I have a friend who has one and it works OK for intermittent work and is great for storage - one car over the other.

It won't totally collapse, as the sides of the lift crush the cars side panels it will stop it from from totally collapsing.

Friend of mine has the 4 post 7000# Dannmar. It is unbolted to the floor and can be rolled . I've tested it with my 6000# Navigator on it ,standing rock solid. Smaller cars could probably stay planted in case of a minor earthquake, lol

Painful to watch.

That guy sounded like he was about to have heart failure and keel over.

Talk about needing exercise.

My Bendpak has the option of being somewhat portable. There are pieces available that pin on the corners and have casters. When you lower the lift all the way, it raises the lift off the floor enough to roll it around. It also has the tray for the bottle jack. It worked great when I changed motor mounts.
