It's time to change mine on my 99GTS, and I don't want to use the Fram one (bad history with it and its connections). Can anyone recommend one they really trust?

Actually, the Fram FUEL filters are usually good to go. Their oil filters **** the big one. I use the Purolator fuel filters on my cars(99 and 97).

Good luck with the swap. Worst thing I've ever had to do on my Viper and I've swapped motors.

Unless there is fuel starvation, why change it? If the fuel is clean from the station (it runs through a filter at the filling station pump) it really shouldn't load up.

In the old Quadrajet days, I get it. That filter was a thimble, but ours has a significant filter area.

Just a thought

To me, it's mostly about the connectors....getting them apart, and being sure to get them locked into place upon re-assembly...without damaging the feed line from the fuel pump.

A "search" will shed a lot of light on successes and failures.

divers side of the pumkin up against the wheel-well liner. I ended up cutting a 3or4" slot in my liner(with a rotorouterbit) to able me to pull it back enough to disconnect the filter. Man, i remember working on trying to disconnect that ***** for atleast an hour(even with the proper disconnect tool). Took a break then came back and was able to finally get her free after getting more aggressive with the tool. Had to push the new fittings on with a lot of force to get to connect. I could definitely see someone think that they had it on there to later find fuel spraying upon startup. Make sure to relieve fuel pressure before starting job. I think i started the motor and pulled the fuelpumprelay until she quit, then bled the schrader valve on the fuel rail as well.

This is one of those jobs that you get halfway into and then start thinking: Am i doing more harm than good:dunno: LOL
That being said, I'm glad mine is now replaced. My Viper had 40K miles from the previous owners. I had no way of knowing what their habits were of fueling the vehicle. Also, i had a hard to diagnose issue with my motor and wanted to eliminate a variable. Im now up to +70K miles and and will prob take her over 130K before thinking about replacing again. If you have a low-mileage car and/or know the history of it then i agree with Ron&Dave, Leave it be.

good luck if you give it a go

Disconnecting the line at the bucket and pulling the line and filter out is the trick. The top "quick" connect is impossible. It took me awhile and and lot of f bombs but that's the way to do it. I posted pics the thread I made on the subject. There is a piece of tape that has to be cut that holds the line to another one to the left of the bucket but after that it will come out.

I have a 2002 RT/10, I jacked the car up and placed on stands, removed left rear tire, I then removed the bottom fuel line(output) removed the bolt that holds the filter to the frame and slid the filter out between the inner fender liner and frame removed the top (input) fuel line and installed the new filter in reverse order. Took longer to jack the car up and put it on stands than change the filter.
