Removing rear bumper Dodge emblem...

I am toying with the idea of removing the rear bumper Dodge emblem. Not that I mind the Viper being a Dodge, but since the new ones are SRT now, maybe the Dodge lettering is getting a little old

Question is, if I remove the letters, is the bumper painted beneath or was the bumper painted with the lettering already in place. I'm just wondering, since my side Viper logo is chrome, it obviously was put there after the car was painted. But my rear lettering matches the silver of my car and I was wondering if they just sprayed it silver with the rest of the bumper after they stuck it on.

I'm sure lots of you have done something similar and would appreciate some input. Cheers.

Use a blow dryer heat the lettering and remove it. Yes the bumper is painted before the decal went on.

That's interesting. So is the emblem then painted separately before it was installed?! Always thought, that bumper and emblem were painted as a unit....

Thanks for the quick response Glen97. Appreciate it. Yes, I was going to use a hairdryer. I think a heatgun is probably too hot, unless you use it from a distance. I certainly don't want to warp the bumper or damage the paint with too much heat.

What GTSHolgi said also makes sense and that's what I thought as well....don't want to take a letter off and then notice that it just has primer underneath

Anybody else try this?

Hair dryer is the way to go. I don't why I said blow dryer. Your correct heat gun is to hot. I don think the letters are painted. I think the color is in the plastic lettering.

Use a hair dryer and dental floss to slip in under the adhesive if they are stubborn.

Adjustable heat gun also works great... you only have to get it as hot as you want it. Grab some 3M adhesive remover for an easy clean-up.

Dental floss and a hair dryer. Warm up the emblem with the hair dryer then work the floss behind the letters. Been there done that. There's paint underneath.

Indy, like others have said, the logos are stick on and the bumper is already painted. Before you take them off, take a look at the pricing for new ones if you change your mind, depending on color they can be pricey. The letters are individual and if you buy a new set then are placed on backing paper making them easy to line up correctly. If you take your's off you'll need a lot of patience and a good eye to get the individual letters back on to look good.

Here's a picture of mine removed. Also, buy a can of 3M "General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner" #051135-08904. Safe for paint, removes tar, etc. If will make the job alot easier, $15-$20 for a quart. good luck, Mike

I'll leave the Viper lettering on...just the Dodge bothers me a bit. Haven't decided 100% yet, but I'll probably be doing it just to modernize it a bit

The Dodge lettering is gone

Just finished. Took only a few minutes with a hair dryer. They came off easy and a little WD40 took care of the little residue that was left. Cheers.

No, but if you close your eyes, you can visualize the scenerio. Before, it had D O D G E lettering, now it has no lettering. :rolaugh:

My car doesn't have any emblems on the rear bumper. It's a lot easier to clean that way.

I really am pleased with the result. It really annoyed me when I got a comment 2 weeks ago "Nice Dodge..."

Not that I mind it being a Dodge, but I think they made the right decision to take the new Viper out of the Dodge devision and create the SRT name badge. Certainly makes it a bit more unique and less mainstream in terms of name. You wouldn't want to drive a Ferrari with a Fiat badge

I like that it's a Dodge, then again I'm kinda old school, I think they should have kept Dodge than go with SRT.
Everyone knows it's a viper and everyone says Dodge Viper. I have never heard the comment nice SRT... :dunno:

Hair dryer and dental floss has always worked. Be cautious of the heat. You may also want to use a safe on paint adhesive removal after if needed.
