I think you hit the nail on the head here. There will be some overlap from previous owners that are purchasing the new one, but for the most part there will inevitably be two very distinct types of enthusiasts when it's done.
I have zero interest in buying the previous generations, perhaps I'd pickup a Gen II in the future. But, I still appreciate the vehicles for what they were, which is where I assume many of the Gen V "new to the brand" buyers are. Just because you don't want one doesn't mean you don't appreciate them.

I won't go to the Gen 3/4 forum and crap over their cars or the Gen 1/2 forum and crap over their cars - which seems to be the opposite here. I enjoy reading them and seeing what people are still doing with the cars. Perhaps that will change when the cars are finally out.

If anything, I see the previous generation owners segregating themselves from the new owners - for whatever reason.

Yes it is. Just like the twenty that preceeded it.
The Gen V forum has become a 3-5 person congratulatory circle ****.
Never seen guys so defensive about buying a stupid car, they need to post um-teen times a day defending their decision.
Buy it, enjoy it. it will be old news a year from now when the newer ones arrive.
That's life.
stupid? shame on u.

Enthusiast ONLY by definition of VCA. Haters are everywhere. Even VCA members hate on other GENs. Place use to be fun and mutual respectful but lately something has really changed and it is much more than just a new GEN. Not look good boys and girls. Lots if growing up to do.

Just sounds like a rant to me about people complaining about the new Viper. Doesn't sound insecure about his purchase at all. There are others on here that are/were and cancelled their orders because they were insecure. Can't wait to see your GEN V Jack!!!

Ed Zachary. Just a bit of tongue-in-cheek sarcasm. Nothing more - nothing less.

5. The V has an improved interior, that is bad, someone will be looking at the interior while driving and get into an accident - I hate nice interiors.

8. The V has a lower center of gravity, when you defy Newton you know what happens.

9. The V uses a lot of carbon fiber, what is going to happen to the steel mill workers. The unions will also all hate the V.

13. The V has a 50% greater torsional rigidity than the IV, that will cause a lot of back injuries. I hate going to the doctor. It might not be bad, the affordable care act is giving me free health insurance.

15. The V engine runs cooler than the IV, that means the driver will have to dress warmer in cool weather, I might be wrong on that one, the “enthusiast’s” did not explain that clearly.

16. The V has a world class paint/finish, that adds weight, what is wrong with SRT.

19. The V has an option for a 18 speaker sound system, for sure, that will ruin some hearing. The AMA is sure going to like that.

22. There is switched power to the rear view mirror for a radar detector, someone will go to jail in Virginia,

25. The V has stability control - why couldn’t they get an exemption from the government.

26, The V has more head room than the IV, that could cause head injuries - way too much open space.

27. The V has a premium leather option, just give me more hp, no one wants leather, I hate leather. I especially hate leather on the steering wheel, why do I hate it, I was taught to hate all that is V by this forum.

28. The V has a lighter flywheel, that was probably for cost savings.

31. The tunnel has been lowered, everyone prefers the higher awkward tunnel, I hate good ergonomics.

32. The V has internet connectivity, who cares, these are race cars - I hate the internet.

35. The V has cooling ducts for the brakes in both the front and rear, that means the brakes will get really dirty.

37. The V has cup holders and storage, that will cause spills and possible electrical shorts.

38. The V has a large touch screen with navigation and dashboard templates, what the hell is that for, just more for me to hate.

.

Good post, I got a good laugh! These were especially funny. Some of you guys need a sense of humor, taking yourselves to seriously.

Got a good laugh now OP go back to your room until you have another creative inspiration to get everyone stirred up again. Looking forward to the Ohio VCA Conner tour later this month to see first hand what's happening!

I'm going to go ahead and drink the coffee Jack B's brewing..:D

:I hate that SRT has taken the Viper G5 to the next level in performance potential with all it's HP & TRQ..
:I hate that SRT created a new high end interior and bad ass electronic upgraded dash..
:I hate that SRT decided to maintain Viper's heritage by keeping body styling recognizable GTS Gen II..
:I hated having to spend all those late evenings and weekends building new components for the Viper G5..

I'm a serious believer in Viper G5's performance potential, with a good set of headers, race clutch kit, Pirelli Slicks and a new Venom controller I firmly believe not much will be able to keep up with this new Snake..:2tu:

Great post!

I'm a Gen 3 owner, so I automatically have to hate the Gen 5. Why? Because I do.

But, when my Gen 5 finally arrives, I may have to hate my Gen 3 and drive it off a cliff. Glad there are no cliffs in Houston. Whew!

Reading all this again got me thinking......Is it possible that all Vipers ****, and not just the gen V? ....Have I been mistakenly blinded by the way the car looks, and performs?...So much as to think it is a 'good' car. .....Maybe the magazine dudes are right, all Vipers are very bad. .....I must have some kind of mental problem for liking them.

Funny you say that. On my first track day at Road Atlanta, my instructor, a GT3 owner, said he hated Vipers and Corvettes because they were so dangerous - overpowered rear wheel drivers in his mind. The real irony came as we entered the track for our first warm up lap in the first session and the Viper in front of me spun and ran off the track. He was convinced he and I would die in just a few moments. I hate he was wrong! LOL

Interesting post. I will add that the animosity of some current owners and posters toward the "enthusiast" newbie is a major turnoff.
Gearheads are enthusiasts and do not care what the brand of the car is. I believe to be one.
I came here to get more information about the new snake and hoped to virtually meet people that I would then meet at car meets or track days. When I started sharing my opinions and what I was cross shopping the car with, I got criticized heavily (not just the standard "I disagree") and some thought I needed to be banned. The other forums (vette, 6speedonline, Audi and MB) I frequent do not come close to the trash I received here and some have really bad members.
I still love the car but decided not to buy one for now. One of the many reasons was the reputation of the viper owners that got proven on this forum.
I can only hope the new Gen V attracts a new breed of open minded gearheads.
Go ahead, start the flaming.

In Ohio we're going through Cincinnati and Dayton on hwy75 if that's on yalls route.

I don't know if they will segregate themselves, but there will be separate camps, no doubt. I don't exactly understand it, as the new car took the looks of the 1 and 2 and applied them to an update chassis and drivetrain of the 3 and 4. To me it should have pulled them together, but what do I know. I appreciate all the Gens for there individual personalities. I may never be in the market for a Gen5 mostly because of the lack of tuning option, I like to tinker. But I in no way hate any of the generations, even the ones with a little hint of an Italian accent. I hope that the aftermarket goes nuts with the new car, then we can all put that top end on our motors, we already know it fits. I just have no interest in buying something that is equipped the way engineers dictated by accounts thought I would like it. By the time it's done I will probably have more money into my 96 than a Gen5 costs and it may never hang with it on a track, but I did it my way.

It used to be us against the Vette, Mustang, and Euro guys, now we are turning on ourselves. It was all in good fun with them, but I guarantee it won't get that way here. Whatever Generation you buy, enjoy the fact that a company has the balls to still build something like this.

I think it's just that it's the winter/spring and everyone is going stir crazy. The people who are storing their cars aren't driving them and the new owners haven't had their cars delivered yet and the lack of up to date info is just making everyone edgy.

Why not put $25 for each person into a prize and the winner donates it to his charity of choice. There would have to be two pots, One for custom and one for the first 300.
