I'm going nuts trying to figure out the drive cycle for my 01' Viper. I put a new battery in my Viper, figuring it wasn't a big deal regarding the computer... seems how I had a few months for the car to run through the emissions tests, so that it would pass the smog test in the spring...well.... here I am, a few months later... still not finished all the tests.

I hooked up my ODB2 computer to the car, and I can see that all tests ran fine, except for the catalyst monitor... it's still 'not complete' yet... which is not a fail, it just hasn't run that test yet under it's criteria. Either way, I've read a document on how to get those conditions met... only problem is, it's for Chrysler vehicles... not a Viper specifically... so I was assuming it's the same; I was wrong. I've ran through this test at least 10 times, to the T... and it's still saying "not ready".

Does ANYONE know what I can do to get this thing to pass? ******** I hate emission tests!!!

FYI, here is the Chrylser drive cycle: http://www.obd2.com/support/reprog/downloads/chrysler/chry-imset_procedure.pdf

Highway 6th gear light load, works for me everytime for the cat. You have stock cats and sensors right??

Hey Garret, I have a feeling I already asked you this before and maybe I wasn't sure at the time exactly which sensor was being lame... but now that I know, I'll try that. How long shall I drive, and at what constant speed? Yup... stock cats and sensors.

You also have to have more than 3/4 of a tank of fuel, All the info is in the Viper service manual.

No worries; I got it. It was at 3/8ths full, and I did what Garret told me... keep it in 6th gear... but then I used the instructions on a Corvette forum as to what speed, for how long, and what not.... so this is what I did:

-Had the gas between 1/4 and 3/4 full
-Warmed the car up to at least 160F (71 C)
-Accelerated at about 25% throttle (not fast) to 60mph (100kmh)
-Maintained speed for 5 minutes in 6th gear
-Coasted (downshifted) without touching brake to 12mph (20kmh) then braked to a complete stop
-Left car idling for 10 seconds
-Turned car off, waited one minute, then back on

Catalyst Monitor turned green after that. Yay! What a pain in the ass.... seriously... I drove this car at least 200km in the last two days trying to get this to work... this was the only one that worked out of all the dozens of different methods I tried.

I just reread your post-Why do you need an e-test? Your Viper is an 01. In 2013 only even number vehicles are being tested starting with 06 units. (unless you missed last years test?)

Already past the test last week, but thanks for the offer. I heard from the local shop that I got it done at, that it must have all systems ready, or it wouldn't pass... you'd have to do a re-test. Oh well, I don't need toworry about it now. But yes... I missed last years. Mine expired in November.... so I've been driving with bad plates since then.... haha; or I would have went to Raceway to get'r'done with the rest of my services... just didnt' want to risk driving all that way with bad plates. Where is your shop?
