Who would have thought people would be thankful that a dealer will "allow" them to buy a car at only MSRP.

I think if you look at it logically regarding servicing the car you will find

1) the Gen 5, even though touted as "new" is a basic Gen 3/4 chassis with a plastic manifold, a different engine controller, a dart dash and a carbon body.
* Plastic manifold - made in either Italy or India may present problems but probably not
*Chassis parts ie. everything but body is easily attainable and as easy to work on as a 1972 F150 pick up truck
* Controller, usually simple plug and play
*Dart dash, again easy plug and play
* Carbon body - any mishaps, call insurance co, get write off cert, order new car

My experience with Vipers is that once you get over the perception that you are dealing with an exotic car, they are the same basic car that has been made since the G2 was developed, with a little evolution over the past almost 20 years. Vipers simply do not have a history of breaking, they are strongly built and if maintained last a long time, well in excess of your average Viper owners total lifetime mileage.

I have put 30K miles on a few of my vipers and outside a a clutch and tires, no issues at all.

Just find a mechanic that is good at fixing cars and not lifting your wallet and you will do fine, warranty service or not.

Agree on your points regarding service. Luckily, we've got a damned good Viper tech here in town that I always take my Vipers to. I guess the question is how long will the car be welcomed at the dealer itself for warranty service?

I also don't buy into the excuse they had to pay $25k for an SRT license agreement, so they have to "recoup" the cost via high markups. It is a one time fee, over 5 years, oh no, a whole $5,000 a year. I waste that on compliance every year - cry me a river.

Exactly, but many of these guys are extremely short sighted and want that coin back NOW.

The LE on EBay sits at $100k. 4 more hours to go. Looks like the market has spoken!!!! Why pay over MSRP when you can pick this one up.
Yes, but the reserve hasn't been met, so it will definitely not be sold for that price. I'm sure the offers will go up much higher just before bidding ends. I guess we'll find out in 2 1/2 hours.

yup I know someone whom paid 100k over sticker last year for an aventador but he was the 1st guy around to roll up in one.
the aventador is still bringing close to msrp used.no comparsion to a viper.i bought my 08 ssg conv in 08 brand new at sticker and in 6 months it was 30k less,i was not thinking right when i bought it new.

If your 2008 convertible dropped 30k in the first 6 months, it has not depreciated at all since then in the last 4 years.

first year it dropped big and now its stabalized in the 50s or so ,if i do get another viper i will wait close to 1 year after its release they got me 1 time not again

The economy was in freefall in 2008. I doubt you'd see discounts like that happen again unless there's another global economic catastrophe (not betting against that either :omg:).

I didnt own the aventador but Lambo rocks. I had only ONE factory service in 3.5 years of ownership & only sustained a 24% depreciation in the time. Its actually the best I've ever done on a car. Cant wait to be able to order the gallardo successor.

cant wait to see the dealers in a about a year or so when Gen V's are sitting on their lots.....AND Believe Me...gen V's will be sitting on dealer lots next year!

The market will determine this quite soon, but most of the dealers will overprice the car so they can use it as bait just like in 92 and in 96. the real question is is DO they really want to sell it and the pricing they are asking is pricing that they figure is at that point where it makes sense to them to sell the car.

I know of one dealership that I tried to buy a 92 from back in the early 00's when I was collecting vipers, and they wanted 165K for a 92 when all the other out there, even comparable 10-25 mile cars were struggling to bring $53K, a few years later they dumped their car for way less. They used it as bait, good old Shaumburg Dodge..

Correct, usually the simplest, most direct answer is usually the right one.

Chances are that the dealers have not overthought this, they have probably thought... gee, we never sold many Vipers before at 50, 65, 72, 84, 92 and 110K the chances of selling one at $140 is probably not very high so......let's RAISE the price by $20-$65K and we will not have to screw around with people making offers until we actually want to sell the cars.

Plus they like having that focal point on their dealership floor amongst the 25K cars.
They are in no hurry to sell it, but if some sap comes in with 25K over MSRP they'll let it go.
A dealership near us has the red one on their floor and people have taken trips just to see it.

Not so sure about this statement of having to sit on showroom floor for.....months....dealers are independent business people, all dealers pay the same from the factory, and the MSRP is a guide, what is the old saying "supply and demand" I am hearing the same thing is happening down the street at the Chevy dealers, many people want the new Corvette coming in September....well equipped with 450 HP...will be about $71K....supply and demand, the dealers that do this sometimes make out on a couple, if people wanted to band together and try to boycott the dealer BUT people have short memories....remember that Obama was going to go line by line to cut out government fat !

Yet another example of an uninformed dealer. They only have to sit on the dealer demo car and the others they can sell as they please.

I'm thinking these dealerships already are aware that the informed buyer is familiar with the big Viper dealers, the ones that will sell at sticker. Do they really have an incentive to compete with the MSRP dealers when they are only allocated a couple? That sounds like real work. I'm thinking they'd rather look for a sucker to get a big fat score out of it instead of building a long term Viper/SRT franchise. :crazy2:
