Hey I just had installed the full belanger package on my 08 viper (cats, catback and headers) Its sounds amazing and is loud but the CEL is on and there seems to be another problem which is the CEL starts flashing which causes the RPMS to not be able to rev high when driving.

I shifted gears got up to 5th then shifted down to 3 and the car starts shaking and just wants to come to a halt...... whats the problem here?

Thanks

Did you read the code? I would start there, it can narrow it down. I would start there..

I believe you are gonna need to add the MOPAR PCM to be able to keep your new setup on the car. GEN IV's are very sensitive to modding due to the VENOM controller being so strict. Some people have been able to get away with not doing it but thats not the norm. Sounds like you are experiencing the car going into limp mode. The PCM should fix this. HOWEVER...this is for "off road' application only so if you live in a county that does e-check inspections you will not pass emessions check.

Hey guys had my mechanic check everything again and everything seems to be intact. I had him scan it and it threw out 3 codes.

P0300- Mutiple Cylinder Misfire
P0316- Engine Misfire detected on startup 1st 1000 rpm
P0304- Cylinder #4 Misfire

Codes were deleted and I drove it which drove fine but the CEL came on again after a couple mins flashing putting it into limp mode again.

Does anyone have an advise what the issue is I am just thinking of putting my stock system back on to get rid of this headache. So if anyone is in the market for a
Belanger system give me a shout.

From what you are posting it seem to be a misfire issue, Cylinder #4. Check Cylinder 4, wire, plug, coil pack ( could also be injector,Faulty oxygen sensor). Easy to do. First start by making sure plug wire is making good contact to your spark plug, if ok pull the spark plug, if ok, change coil pack Cylinder 4 with one next to it. Was it driving good before the header change? did you pull the coil packs when doing the headers? Don't sell them yet. If it was running good before the install, you just have to find what's causeing the misfire. Also the P0316 code could be "Damaged or defective Crankshaft Position Sensor (CKP)-CKP sensor wiring or connector fault" So also check the Crankshaft Position Senor connector.

It was running perfect before the belanger header install. No issues. I will have to have my mechanic have a 2nd look at it just sitting in the shop still. Pretty disappointing and I find it a little loud for my taste, dont get me wrong sounds amazing though!

Oxygen sensors /or their wires shorting. Been there done that. Change them and apply heat protection generously otherwise this will come back every few miles... There is so much heat that the wires just burn off plus they may be squeezed by the sill panel so check that too.

A flashing CEL is serious, try not to drive the car until a fix. I had a similar problem with my Ford GT, new Iridium plugs fixed the problem. Maybe you should concentrate on the plugs and coils.

Hey the flashing CEL turned out to be 2 spark plugs that got disturbed while the header install it was replaced and all has been working well. But yesterday I drove the car quite hard for about 15 mins and the CEL came back on not flashing this time though. I know the 08 with the belanger package is sensitive to the CEL and they recommend tthe Mopar PCM but I honestly dont want to spend the money and dont want to lose the crackling sound of the exhaust. So is there any concerns with the CEL on does it harm the car in any way I will scan it here in the next day but what code is it going to throw with the belanger headers?

Get the Mopar PCM. No more CEL, and no more 1st gear shift lockout/light either, and that makes it worth the money all by it's self IMHO.

so with the Belanger and a new PCM the car would not pass an E-Test? Shoot, I was hoping to get down the road for my Gen IV as well. I am in Ontario, Canada.

I believe the Gen 4 will sometimes throw CELs for Cat efficiency when headers are installed. This should not cause Limp mode. It is common though to burn through the downstream O2 wires because of their proximity to the cats. This causes the ASD fuse to blow which makes the car almost undrivable. Insulation does not help in my experience, the wires still melt. Mopar controller fixes this as it does not read the downstream O2s. I plugged the bungs and zip tied the downstream sensors to the frame away from the heat.

Really look at O2 wires and sensors. If still experiencing issues, willing to bet it is there. Mine was an 06 but that was issue I had once on mine. Once compromised, you have to replace from the plug out on those 02 units. You have to really reroute to pull them from heat sources. Oh yah, that system will never pass Emissions tests, been there and more than paid to done that. Or at least learn that lesson.
