Question about srt viper sales

I would wait for the Styker red. Once in a lifetime car. One year of very limited production.Would love to have one but the first scratch would drive me crazy.

One other note on Tesla, they have a money back guarantee...after 3 years of ownership they will refund any amount of depreciation that is GREATER than the benchmark. what is the benchmark you ask? Mercedes S class.


So if SRT had a similar guarantee program, in 3 years they'd guarantee your Gen V Launch Edition would be worth $68K, that would be a great deal and sell more vipers? BTW Tesla changed the benchmark from the S class since the industry criticized them for using a car that had the worst resale value percentage in the luxury segment.

The biggest issue with selling the cars is simply deliver at this point IMHO.

You have guys like me that were passionate about getting the car - and simply couldn't seem to get it made. I canceled my order but still decided to take delivery when it was (finally) built.

I can't imagine someone who sort of maybe wanted the car putting up with this crap. That is the problem SRT faces. Not everyone is as daft as us on this forum that ordered, they don't have the desire for the car as bad.

Holy crap, time to set the record straight. Joke's on me. I THOUGHT I had found a Viper at $15k off MSRP, another at $13.3K off, and several at $10K off MSRP.

It was too good to be true. I read the fine print in those ads- Chrysler employee discount was applied. It turns out that, for the most part, Gen V's are being offered at MSRP or above.

And of the 200+ listed, I did call about one of them. It was sold, but it's still listed. A bunch of others are "in transit," so they haven't yet been built. It looks as if the market isn't flooded with Gen V's after all, perhaps inventory levels are about where they should be.

I guess the good news in this is that sales of the Gen V may not be so dreary after all. Verdict's not in yet, time will tell. I personally hope the Viper sells like crazy, so we have years of improvements, plus an ACR and convertible in the future.

This also means that I will likely wait for my Stryker Red, as the incentive to buy an in-stock Viper just got eliminated.


Wait for your Stryker Red car! You've come too far now to settle and I promise it's worth the wait. If you did buy a different car, which are all great IMHO, you'd be kicking yourself when you see a Stryker Red in person. Hopefully you're only a couple of weeks away... besides, it's been an epic journey and as painful as it is now waiting, it will only add to your enjoyment later.

Wait for your Stryker Red car! You've come too far now to settle and I promise it's worth the wait. If you did buy a different car, which are all great IMHO, you'd be kicking yourself when you see a Stryker Red in person. Totally agree. After seeing my plan B of buying a heavily discounted black GTS vaporize, truth is I'm relieved. What I really wanted was the Stryker Red, and at least I know I won't regret waiting for it. It will be worth holding out a while longer. What I really wanted was the Stryker Red, and at least I know I won't regret waiting for it. It will be worth holding out a while longer. Once you get the call it is in, the last 9 months of waiting melt away in your mind, trust me...

I do think SRT needs to do something to reach out to those that preordered and got stuck waiting forever. It would be an act of good faith. Doesn't have to be of monetary value, but something to thank people for holding out...

SRT is losing customers real quick. They need a whole new marketing and sales team, because they completely dropped the ball here. At the rate there going, there going to be in trouble real quick....jmop

Thats good news !! Sometimes the numbers do not tell the whole story.... Possibly many buyers may be waiting until the "have to be the first on the block" rush ends and are holding
out for 6 or 8 months until the dealers start to discount or make deals on the remaining 2013's since the 2014 model year Vipers will be here within 4 to 6 months...

I guess more interesting is the fact - what are the dealers going to do that handled custom ordered cars - and have people canceling their orders?

I mean, if I was X dealer and had two allocations which I both sold - SRT is building cars for other dealers without sales first, dealer X is getting shafted. Now they have a spec car built they have no buyer for.

So, in this instance, SRT is screwing over the dealer that had the sale lined up, while giving preference to the dealer who didn't. Now dealer X is sitting there with an unsold vehicle.

Have to be honest. I have tried to purchase a 2013 from a few different dealers and the numbers that they want to put on my 2010 ACR are crazy. I think that SRT should have advised all these dealers and do something about trade ins. Most of the buyers of the 2013 is a previous buyers. I'm not giving up but will see what happens with the market. Also the dealers are not representing the SRT brand well at all.

There actually are real discounts available on AutoTrader. I found a black and gunmetal GTS for $3500 off MSRP. I also found a few reds and LEs for near invoice - no funny business in the ads either. I'm feeling like a first-class sucker right about now.

I was at the porsche dealer today to test drive the 911 4S, and they were offering 7% off sticker even on a turbo S if I wanted to order. That is ridiculous, I refuse to accept any less than 6% off from the viper especially if some are selling for 10-15k off. I have a feeling there is a large inflation of price on this car hence why it is so overly expensive. I like it at 6-7% discount which is around 8k off.

911's are pretty, but they aren't a Viper. Not a fan of the torque-delete option they have.

Although you may find one for $8K off if you are really patient, I recently figured out that they aren't really going for $10-15K off. The fine print on those cars shows that's the "Employee discount" price. Total BS. I learned that the Viper is excluded from that discount. Deceptive sales practice at it's worst. I've crossed those dealers off my list. If I buy, it will be from the handful of dealers that give it to you straight.

The Viper is still new enough that it may be difficult to get big discounts for quite some time, or at least until the 2014s start showing up if 2013s are still on lots.

Well then guess we have to wait to see what happens after the 2014s are out. It's hard to gauge really. We need to see actually how many vipers that are built actually are in owners hands and not on dealer lots. It's too soon to tell.

There is no shortage of use Vipers around will very little mileage, just saw a 2005 Vert today on the auto trader with just over 3000 miles on her for $38,000 asking. There will be plenty of used GEN 5's to go around in a year or so. Like with anything new the novelty wears off fast and fall is a great time to buy, snow bound states and provinces don't want to be stuck with a Viper in showroom for the winter.

I have an order in Final Inspection status that I ordered at sticker but after looking around Autotrader.com I've come to realize that the car just isn't worth sticker at this point because now there are dealers violating their agreement with SRT to sell the cars at sticker and no lower so I'm probably going to bail out and wait. Chrysler has hosed all of us who ordered cars as well as the good, honest dealers who are honoring their agreements with SRT.

Nobody is selling for $10k-$15k off. There are, however, dealers on Autotrader.com selling at or near invoice.

Interesting that you are irritated that dealers are not sticking to their agreement, but also that you are not sticking to your agreement to accept delivery at the price YOU
agreed upon.

Many dealers will offer discounts on cars they do not physically own, but then they are also free to change their prices when they realize they can sell it for more.

The internet is full of sellers trying to flip something they do not own. Believe the current market price is very close to MSRP (+/- a little)

Have not met anyone yet who has taken delivery of their new car that does not feel it is worth the price they paid.

Not unusual for some dealers to offer "door buster" prices on cars, but you find out you have to use their financing, they have other fees, your trade in is lower, you need to buy some addition package, they have added paint protection, undercoat, interior protection, special wheels, etc...etc...etc.

Sometimes a square deal is the real deal. Sometimes hype is hype.

My dad used to run a small grocery/butcher shop. Often people would come in and ask if he would match the lower milk prices down the street at the big store. He asked why they did not just buy it there, and they would reply that they are out. Dad would reply, "If I was out I could advertise them cheaper too.

Just looked on auto trader. Everything I saw (did not go through them all) were marked at MSRP or above.

Well I think the people who wanted to accept delivery at the negotiated price were counting on actually getting their cars in the promised timeframe...now that dealers are getting cars that aren't moving and the customer ordered cars still aren't delivered, I can see why they'd be more than a little peeved.

- I'm not irritated at dealers NOT honoring their deal with SRT. I meant to convey that I felt bad for the dealers that are honoring that.
- I'm not feeling too bad about possibly canceling my order because the delivery dates promised, production schedule promised, etc were not lived up to by SRT. Furthermore, the market has drastically changed since February/March when all these custom orders were supposed to be delivered.
- The deals I saw are on Autotrader and are legit. There are two dealers in the L.A. area offering very low prices on cars that they have in stock RIGHT NOW, so it's not "discounts on cars they do not physically own" as you stated. The deals with one of the dealers can be confirmed by someone both you and I know well.
- I understand your points and am somewhat torn about possibly bailing on the car but as I said, the dynamics have changed and I could now get a car with many thousands worth of options beyond what my order has for $600 and I wouldn't have to pay shipping on it either so it would actually be less money for me. I just don't think it makes sense to continue with an order at full boat in light of recent developments.
- I stand by the statement that Chrysler has jacked up this whole Gen V program in a very bad way since the word "go."

Paul, there's a key point here that I think you're missing. This point is what has those of us that ordered custom cars back in November justifiably upset. First to order should be first to receive, not last. Period. I was fine with them making 150 LEs and 150 red track pack and dealer demo cars before the custom orders. At that point, dealers all over the nation have cars they can show and sell, which drives more sales.

They should have the immediately built the sold custom orders after those first 300. But SRT chose to make unsold cars before the sold ones. They know from the POC (Priced Order Confirmation) which cars are sold to customers, and which ones are unsold. Take MoparMan's case as an example (sorry MoparMan to keep using you as an example, but it's a typical of how SRT dropped the ball). MoparMan orders car in November, probably thinking it'll get delivered in Feb or Mar. Well, over the past couple of months, over 50 unsold black Vipers have shown up on dealer lots, some of which are nearly or identically optioned as his. Why didn't they build his before the others? Absolutely no excuse for that. And I've talked to three dealers who absolutely agree with me on this point. They spend a lot of time trying to calm down people like us that got the short end of the stick. Those dealers are also getting hosed, it is not their fault either. Someone in SRT marketing or manufacturing completely dropped the ball.
