I recently sold my 97 GTS and got this 2009 Coupe. I think it may have been painted, but am not 100% sure. I was detailing the car and had the hatch open in the back. With the hatch open, I saw some black fabric tape had come loose at the edges, in an area right above where the glass attaches to the body at the roof. I pulled the tape off, and realized that is was on both sides. With the tape removed, you can see two holes there.

So here is my question:
Is this tape supposed to be there from the factory?
If so, and I removed it, should I put some more tape back in there?
What are these holes for?

See pics below if it's not clear what I am asking. Thanks!

Hey Jay,
I just checked my 2009, and yes it has the tape there as you describe. It appears to be factory, and since it is so close to the window drainage I would put tape back on it. And I would use Gorilla black masking tape.

Is it possible that Chrysler recycled the hatch from the previous area and just drilled new holes to make it fit on Gen 3 and 4? Both hatches look very similar.
