Crusin' down the local freeway today when an exotic sports car pulls up along side of me and asks if I want to go. I have a 97 GTS, Roe, 10 pds boost, ported cylinders & throttle bodies, Balenger headers & full 3 inch exhaust & stock gearing. I yell out the window "sure I do !" At 50 mph I downshift into 2nd and we both nail it. I jump out quickly one car length on him. At 5500 rpms I shift to third and he starts to walk me. I shift to fourth and before I shift again he has a couple cars on me. I can't believe it, I don't even know what kind of car this is. He slows and says he's getting off the next exit for gas so I follow. I have to see what the hell this is. At the gas station we both get out and shake hands. He's a real nice guy named Joe. He explains it's a McLaren MP4 12-C. Says he enjoys beating up on the *** rice rockets and usually doesn't get to race any cars. His car is all stock and he claims it runs a 10 second quarter mile. I don't doubt him !! We talked for about 20 minutes and attracted quite a crowd at the gas station. I leave and after being humbled, drive the speed limit all the way home. Then I watch my NY Giants get destroyed at home by the Broncos. I'm going to bed, maybe tomorrow will be a better day.

I'd be happy to see the mclaren. High tech and lower curb weight than your 1997.

Remember there is always some faster than you. I believe McLaren is awd and wickedly fast and not cheap to say least to buy. No big deal. Just shake it off.
As far as racing on public roads is not worth it in my book.:D

There is always someone faster out there on the streets, and the McLaren and even the Nissan GTR are very quick. But being a road course guy, thats where I look for them !

There are FAR worse cars to lose to. 12C are no joke!

Another question, why are you only shifting at 5500 rpm? Where is the rev limiter on a Gen2 with the Roe?

Nine Ball, I' looking for longevity here so I shift at 5500. With this guy I could have shifted at 7500 and it wouldn't have made any difference. He was fast !

Where is the normal rev limiter on your car? RPM does matter, if you are racing. But, agreed on being out-matched in this case.

I spent the weekend at TWS at a PCA (Porsche Club) event. My instructor was a vette guy (C4 Z06). He loved my car! I can't tell you how many times he said it was incredible. He finally begged me to allow him to drive it, so he took me out in his run group. He sure drove it like it was intended to be driven! Man that awesome!

I was promoted from green run group to blue and had to have the Chief instructor ride with me to approve the promotion. After my run he told me he wanted to "demonstrate some of the things he was talking about", ha, ha, so we went out in the yellow run group right after my run. He loved the car. He came up to me late Sunday and said something like "you are scaring all my Porsche guys", then he laughed and asked me if I had been passed by any cars all weekend. I said no.

This car is a beast. There wasn't a Porsche that could hang with it on the front straight (including 911 Turbo S, did not get to go against GT2 in the paddock). The car earned the respect of a lot of P-car guys this weekend!

A stock 12c vs a SC Viper is not a fair fight. But it's fun to try. I'm not even sure a TT Viper would do much better. The 12c is fast every time, a TT Viper all depends on X, Y, Z. With launch control on the 12c a Viper stands no chance on the street (ok, I'm sure there's that one or two that may). Different cars, different characters, both an absolute ball to drive!

My car is stock apart from K&N Cone air filters and Full decat Bellanger exhaust, One time on the Top gear track we were giving Charity Joy rides.
We entered Hammerhead at the far end of the wide runway in the opposite direction that you see on the TV Program, to my right just exiting hammerhead was a friend in an Aston Martin Pro drive tweaked DB9 As we straightened out on the runway to my left came another friend in a Mosler MT900 (Similar to a Saleen S7), to the left of him entered a tuned up Nissan GTR, we all hit the gas at the same time for an epic drag race down the runway, I got past the Aston but the GTR was the winner followed by the Mosler.

Yep, there is always something faster out there, but it still sounds like you were having fun.......Sorry about the Football game though :(

They trap mid-130s in the 1/4. My '06 with a stock engine and Paxton did that. I'd expect a TT car to trap 140s minimum. 12C is a fast stock vehicle, but many cars on this site could handle a 135 mph car from a roll.

"Street" being the key word regarding launches. From a roll its anyone's game if you have the traction (at least until the 1st turn :D ). The only point folks should know about the 12c is that it is consistently fast in all conditions, every time. Not "I wasen't in the right gear", "my turbos weren't spooled up", "my tires just spun", "i wasen't ready", etc. A 9 second (or less) car should beat a 10 second car. The neat thing about the 12c is its a 10 second car from every launch on stock P Zero tires, no excuses needed - so if the conditions aren't ideal for the SC/TT Vipers its probably not going to end well. Given favorable conditions a 900+ hp Viper should take one no problem.

Dude, take the RPM's at least to 6k. Your fuel cutoff is around 6200, you need those extra RPM's. I know that with Sean's setup on low boost low 120's traps are possible so the 10PSI pulley should get you in the mid to upper 120's, but that MP4 can do low 130's so you may need to get the 2.8 upgrade from Sean and you should get around an extra 50hp with the 10psi pulley and your entire power curve will improve. Get the thing retuned and with that setup you should be in the low 10's with 130's traps and have no problem taking that MP4 in the future.

To your point, my 10# Gen1 with a 255l and boost-a-pump ran out of fuel at 5500 and started getting dangerously lean - supplemented with water/****. A 2nd 255l and 1/2" fuel lines and I had more fuel than I knew what to do with at any rpm. I was running the 2.4l and we saw almost 700/770 with heads & cam. Biggest problem was traction in the 1st 4 gears.

Yea the MP4-12C is no joke. I'd be happy just to see one, let alone race one!

Theres an orange one in town here in Sierra Vista, AZ. $240k car. You could make your Viper 2X faster with 1/2 the cost if you really wanted. Twin Turbos as stated before. Lucky the guy that drove it even wanted to race you in the first place.

3.2 sec 0-60 and 10.9 in the 1/4 mile. Pretty fast in stock trim. **** car. :headbang:

Oh and please race in my jurisdiction next time. We've been wanting a MP4-12C Police interceptor for a while!! Pretty hard to say, "It was the other orange MP4-12C officer I swear...."

A more relevant race would be a 2013 VIPER vers the McLaren

One side note on the 2012 ZR-1 was that the launch control was not activated and no power shifting was done. Anyone who has ever power shifted knows that two to three tenths are knocked off your ET and up to 3 MPH at the top. The 2012 ZR1 and 2013 Viper are very close in perfromance times.

The 2013 Viper in my opinion is more then a match for the McLaren.

For the members who are not familiar with this concept..look below.

Power shifting, also known as full-throttle shifting or flat-shifting, (not to be confused with speed-shifting) is a method of shifting used with manual transmissions to reduce the time where the driving wheels are not powered. Unlike a normal gear change, in a powershift the driver does not let off the accelerator (unlike speed-shifting, where the throttle is let off very quickly, simultaneously depressing the clutch and shifting into the next gear, rapidly). The clutch is briefly depressed while the shift lever is rapidly shifted into a higher gear, keeping the engine in its power band.

I'll take that challenge. If it helps the cause I won't even touch the paddles :D

Which car are you backing? Already the ZR-1 burned the Mclaren on the road and track test .. race course..See tube again.
