The part that still makes ZERO sense to me is that they wouldn't have covered you if something happened on the track anyway, so you being on the track is no risk to them.
The ONLY person I could see getting upset about a track video (with no track insurance either) would be a financing company, if you didn't own the vehicle outright. Then they could be potentially taking a hit if you totalled the car, stopped paying, and had no money for them to come after.

Amazing. The video showed them driving around the race track like people do at the laps for charity events (not high speed), and an autocross where you are not getting above 45mph. They are not doing a DE event on a high speed road course. How about recognizing that the OP is a RESPONSIBLE car owner, and is doing things like this in a -safe environment-, is learning car control, etc. Nope. But, if you wreck your car while drunk driving, don't they cover you? Wreckless driving? Speeding?

Well.....Thats fine. They can conduct their business how they wish, and I can insure with who "I" wish. Geico just went on my "never" list, and from what was talked about above, looks like USAA is going there also. BTW, I talked with my State Farm agent about my -heavily- modified car, he even CALLED underwriting to ask, and they had NO problem with it and did not request any additional payment amount. I'm talking nitrous, cam/heads, roll bar, etc. Now, this WAS a decade ago, but still......

Very interesting read. ***** to hear that the gecko did that to ya, and I too think that's wrong. OP was doing nothing wrong, wouldn't have been able to file a claim in the first place, and would have been covered by VOI insurance in the second place.

Troubling that this will probably become the norm and not the exception.

I've had State Farm for many, many years, and always been upfront about the mods and money I put into my cars, as well as the rarity of them. They've always had my back, and said that as long as I kept receipts of mods then I would be OK. They also knew I did track days, and I asked if I could get any "good driver" points for actually learning to drive properly. They didn't agree, but they never had any problems with me being on a road course or dragway.

The insurance company might be playing the angle of more wear and tear on the suspension components and thus possible a premature failure of a part on the street. Say like that weak rear knuckle. I really don't get this age of posting all this crap on facebook, youtube and so one. What is it trying to outdue the Joneses?

State Farm was willing to cover your modifications?

Shine, just to clarify so you don't think you're covered when you're not. If you wreck your car at a VOI or any VCA event that has "insurance" for the event, it DOES NOT cover your car. It's a liability policy. Just didn't want you to find out the hard way.

I am guessing that the risk that an insurance company would be concerned about is litigation even if there own policy states "no coverage." It seems that lawyers can file anything no matter what the legal paperwork says, and rack up large costs even if the case has no merit. The case of the Porsche and Ferrari HPDE wreck at comes to mind.

I made my first claim in my life after hydroplaning into a guardrail back in July in the Viper. Geico called me at the beginning of this month to let me know they are dropping me as of October 19th...funny thing is they said they can't cover me due to the extensive aftermarket modifications on my car, but NOTHING on my claim is aftermarket. I've tried contacting 3 other agencies and are all quoting me double what I was paying with Geico.

Maybe the issue is that they have quoted the coverage based on a stock Viper; but once they learned that the value of your car with the mods it has now is higher than what they based their premiums on, they are no longer interested. And not interested in coming up with a special rate for your car. If GEICO is lower than a major company like State Farm, they must be doing something on order to keep costs lower unless they are just working on a smaller profit margin.

Check out Travelers Insurance, I have mine covered there along with other vehicles, they were very reasonable. I previously had State Farm, 30+ years, and all they ever did was raise the rates, I saved $1,800 a year switching 3 vehicles to Travelers
