I don't think the ACR will be able to compete with the next Z car. Sorry. I think GM is going to take back the belt and keep it. Chrysler is going to be paddling a new boat unless they find 100s of millions of dollars and a dozen engineers. Personally, I think the new Z07 is going to put everyone on a trailer, except the P1, Laferrari and 918. Gilles, you are going to need the proverbial, rabbit-out-of-the-hat. As far as the twin turbo part, I would prefer to see them go to a DI Next Gen 427 with about 550HP. I am guessing they will go with the twin turbo because it is easier.

You have yet to post a single positive thing on this forum. Go troll elsewhere.

It seems like GM is trying to piggy back off the new 4.5L V8 available with the Caddy's. The GT2 car I believe is a 5.5L, so maybe that is what the next 'Z' Vette winds up with.

I'm not too worried about that though. If the new Viper finds the right gearing, a little more power, add the down force goodies, strip some weight and we'll be fine. I'd rather see Ralph and company chase after beating 911's, 458's, MP4's, and the new Gallardo replacement. I won't be too hurt if we can't hang with 918's, P1's, and LaFerrari's.

On a side note, but related, I have a question for those that own the Gen V. I remember reading some posts about the Gen IV not having the very low end torque that the previous Gens have had and in the review about the V, the same comments about the new car having a higher power band. Maybe that is the room for improvement? I keep hearing 4K RPM's is the magic spot, but that means you're not in the power band until late and not for very long. Similar to single turbo cars. They make big power, but not enough low end to be door to door with cars that make less power. Just a thought, but I was thinking about this today and maybe the new Viper could use a different cam profile.

I remember on my last car when picking out a cam. You can pick a cam to make high peak HP, but the power under the curve would suffer. Someone with a better cam might dyno less, but run faster. Anyways, just a thought on what SRT might be able to do for the ACR.

GM is not playing if true. If its turbo it wont take much tweaking to get ridiculous power on the cheap vs the NA Venom managed Vipers. That's going to be one nasty Z07. SRT will have to step up the TA Viper to handle the Z07 as that would be the direct competitor it would seem. I remember the base Stingray out handled the Viper in a recent test so you can just imagine what a Z07 with TT may be able to do to the Viper over all. This is actually exciting to see what both GM and SRT will do to compete with each other.

Of course the Vette is in the performance race but until now, GM has always built 'junk' that breaks...if the new Z is any different I will be shocked. Just sayin'.

Why compare TT to NA? 600 HP on TT.... How many TT Vipers are well over 1000 HP.... Plenty. Same goes for TT LSx power plants. All the power in the world is great. If ya can't use it its worthless. Handling, braking, and tire technology tweaks make you fast on the track. Looking forward to the TA and maybe an ACR version laying down some track numbers.

GM will have to come a long way to get me to switch back.

My Z06 was one of the first to get the "upgraded" T6060 trans. The wonderful engineers at GM decided to switch to straight ATF at the same time. Unfortunately, no one told that to the guys making the syncro's. My car burned up 1-2 syncros and 3-4 syncros were on the way out as well, all before 2000 miles. Took all summer to get fixed.

Combine that with the door catch clicking, the known exhaust valve/valve train issues of the LS7 and the dealer adding oil incorrectly, its an easy decision to buy a viper over upgrading to the zr1. GM builds a cheap car that delivers performance, cheap. Anyone who denies this is only lying to themselves. I still have a soft spot for vette's as it is an american icon, I just will not buy another until things change.

My 2010 Z06 is a fast, lightweight car. I pound the $hit out of it on the track. The shifts on the Tremec TR 6060 transmission are real smooth and precise too. Not to mention good gearing. I can't imagine what this next Z06/Z07 will be like..

Carscoops seems to be expert at speculation, like those who assured us the C7 would have a twin-turbo V6 and nanosteel frame.

Hi-po C7s are already almost here, sort of--Callaway dealers are now taking deposits for supercharged C7s that will definitely make over 600hp, coupe or convertible. I'm sure the official Zxx will make even more, and may well beat the Gen V in its current form. So what. It's a better world when both Corvettes and Vipers are in production. They're different cars for different audiences. Vettes will never look as good as Vipers. C7s look great, but Vipers in person make you want to faint dead away. There's a charisma that not even Italian exotics can duplicate.

Those who think the C6 is unreliable junk really ought to ask Ron Fellows and Bondurant, who've been running them pretty hard for years and may want to disagree.

Never said it was junk, just cheap. BIG difference. I apologize if you took my comments personally. My experiences with my car, which I must tell you I kept for nearly 5 years, is my own personal experience. Having GM tell me an error on their part means I had to sit out an nearly an entire summer of driving because they refused to replace the entire trans is telling of the company itself. I would also venture to bet that at the price point, Ron Fellows would have one hell of a time finding a replacement for the Z06. Again, its a cheap performance car, period.

You were the one the mentioned reliability, of which no one else has commented, which means you are well aware of some of the problem areas with the LS7 motor and its valve train geometry issues.....

Sure GM developed this for the next high performance Corvette, why else would they. If this DCT is anything like the Porsche DCT/PDK ,and goes into a twin turbo/supercharged Corvette their will be not be much that will run with it at any price. By the way, this type of transmission is exactly what the Viper needs badly for the sales and to compete in todays HP Car market. Human shifting is slow for racing and most people do not want to shift a car..This alone can save the Viper..

Boxer12 said it was junk. I sure wish I too had so much money that I too could call a $100k+ ZR1 cheap. But no, I didn't take anything personally, thank you.

"Junk" and "cheap" imply unreliability. Again, ask the guys who run C6s on tracks and instruct in them all day if "junk" and "cheap" are the words that spring to mind when thinking of the C6. As to the LS7, I am indeed aware of the 367,094 threads at the C6 Z06 forum about alleged dropped valves, but most of those posters are whiny conspiracy theorists. Guys like Jason from Katech who actually know what they're doing and keep telling people there is little or no real problem, and that the problems that do happen are often the result of Bubba-tuning or abuse, get drowned out by the Keyboard Kommandos who much prefer to repeat rumors to feel big, instead of going out and driving their cars and being happy. Why GM would warranty a "defective" engine for 100,000 miles is a question that seems not to occur to them.

No car is perfect. My base C6 left me marooned in Black Mountain NC for three days while getting its clutch fixed at only 13k miles. Well they let me borrow a Tahoe but paying for gas didn't inspire me to go very far. GM covered it under warranty even though they didn't really have to. These things can happen with any machine.

If I could have only one car, money no object, then I'd take a Viper all day. If I could have only two cars, money no object, I'd take a Viper and a C7 vert, thank you. Now back to work to make that happen.

Not to mention that probably more than 50% of a car's performance has a lot to do with who's behind the wheel. Just because a driver has a lot of experience doesn't necessarily mean he knows how to drive a particular car a particular way. Take an average guy off the street and put him in a GT-R or a Viper and the Viper would probably look really bad. Put a professional Viper driver in one and the gap will likely close, and not one thing about the car had to change for that. Someone may have spent a lifetime racing X brand, but multiple years of experience doesn't necessarily mean that they can drive any car to it's limits.

My instructor at TWS last weekend is a Corvette guy (C5 Z06). He loved my Viper. Couldn't speak enough good about it. He begged me to drive it, and so we took it out in the white run group. It took him two laps to get the feel and nothing except a GT3 RS with slicks was matching it.

Regardless of what buyers choose we should be happy these potent rides exists. The competition between makes benefits us all. In my house it's me (Viper) and wife (Vette). Right now though she is winning....
