Killed a 335/30ZR18 Pilot SX MXX3 - any chance to find a 50% used one???

I hate to toss a perfectly good 50% one and would like to find a used to replace the destroyed tire.

Since I have a set of 4, buying a new set of rears, they would not match the fronts and I'm not going to buy a set of 4 just because I lost one tire.

If I would replace the rears, I would sell off the 50% good one to someone in my situation, but I'd have to be sure I put rears that held not less than the MXX3's - otherwise, the car would be unsafe because the rear would break first. If the replacement rears held more, then the car would simply push.

Rrrrr.... I am so [explitive deleted] mad!

I guess you don't want to hear about the 24 year old NOS Yokohama A008's that I ran down to the cords w/o incident or the set of 37 year old Uniroyal G78's that are still 75% on my factory supercharged R2 Super Lark.

But I do know what you mean.

I think the problem is that tire manufacturers have quit using nylon plies which bonded nicely to rubber whereas poly-anything and rayon simply do not. (Actually I need to check the composition of the A008's and the Uni's to see if they used nylon. Since MM3X does not, you may definitely have a point.)

You missed the point there have been many documented viper crashes due to mxx pilots - it is not debatable.

I was not aware of documented MXX failures. Were these at 80 mph on interstate or at drag strip, road course, or open road race?

I want to make some cross country tours and was intending to use up the MXX's. They all have 5.5 to 7 32nds which really hurts - they aren't used up much.

I suppose one new rear would make the car somewhat safer since a rear failure is the worst. Maybe I should change out the rears.
